former director of NSA joins Amazon's BoD

Retired U.S. Gen. Keith Alexander, who served as the director of the National Security Agency from August 2005 to March 2014, joined Amazon's Board of Directors on Wednesday, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, less than a week after the Department of Defense decided after a review to stand by a decision Amazon has protested to hand a valuable cloud computing contract to Microsoft.

Alexander, who also served as the commander of the U.S. Cyber Command from May 2010 to March 2014 and is the founder and co-CEO of IronNet Cybersecurity, joins ten other directors on Amazon's board.

He came into the national spotlight after classified documents leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed widespread surveillance on U.S. and international communications at the NSA, which he oversaw.

At the time of the leaks in 2013, Alexander said Snowden "betrayed" the agency, criticized press coverage of the documents and compared the public's ire toward the surveillance to a child refusing to take a bath.

Amazon, which says it "never participated" in the NSA's PRISM program that allowed the government to obtain data from companies like Apple, Google and Microsoft, hasn't been immune to criticism over how and what data it collects, including from its voice-recognition device Amazon Echo.

- be director of NSA during the largest security failure of their existance

- get multi-million dollar gig at Amazon

makes sense. Surely he was hired just for his leadership alone and nothing fishy going on. He totally didnt use his role in the government to hook them up with contracts or information. They just happened to respect the leadership of a guy who had the biggest known security failure of the intel community in history under his watch.

lmao notice they dont say Amazon never participated in ANY NSA warrantless intel program. They just say they didnt participate in PRISM which was mostly for email and amazon didnt have email services. Plus its certainly renamed at this point after all the bad press so they probably are in the new prism today. lmao at the lawyer speak.

you think people in the know want former nsa at amazon?. he can easily be bribed or on their payroll . a relative of mine retired from government work to do contract work between civilian companies and the gov agency. it only takes one step to betray America. amazon would be the company to infiltrate.

Amazon AWS is bigly with government contract (servers and encryption, worldwide locations).

We can get a bit morein to it as well in to all of the devices in peoples homes and data they collect, it'd blow a normies mind in 2 seconds.

^^^ Truth.

There is a revolving door and collusion, between Corporation execs and Government execs.

Eric Schmidt went from Google chairman, to the chair of the Department of Defense Innovation Advisory Board.

In the next iteration of America, maybe there should be more barriers between private and government organizations. Government is subject to FOIA requests and other things that private companies are not, and so private contractors are used to do things government cannot (or is not supposed to).
