Guys with this body type are dangerous

Tall, lean with broad muscular shoulders & narrow hips. Never seen a top hitter boxer with scrawny shoulders they all got developed shoulders like Jackson especially front Delt muscles. Enough speed and power to even KO 200lb+ jocks

Hold everything - OP just discovered men with large muscles used in striking things hit hard. Fascinating.

Julian Jackson was a don

Dude should be up there with Tyson but I guess losing to Mclennen twice took away from his mystique

And all this time I thought scrawny twinks had the physical advantage in fighting.

But think about it. It makes sense. Wilder probably the hardest hitter in history has insanely huge shoulders, dudes ripped with small ass hips. He's a heavyweight and weighs only around 209-230 at most. The crazy thing is he didnt start boxing till in his 20s. So he was just genetically like that without even boxing.

If you look at all the exercises that are meant to increase power and hand speed if you really look at what they target they target the delt muscles especially the front delt muscles. Most dudes you see irl have small shoulders, and they hit like b&tches

Had a friend who was into the MMA stuff. Used to fight in the cage with guys like this. He said his thing was to attack their lower body - go for their knees, shins and ankles as they are usually weak. He would tear them apart doing this. Once they were on the ground with them he would tear them apart.

This comment reminds me of a guy I know. He's about 5'10" 180lbs or so and average width. Really short arms and legs. Also hands that are freakishly small. Like smaller than the average sized woman. He was like 5'2" until he was 16 and hit a massive growth spurt but hands, arms and legs didn't get the memo. He has very overdeveloped traps and is freakishly strong for his size. Another strange thing is that he had the opposite build you usually want for a pitcher but could throw absolute seeds like high 80s low 90s before he blew out his shoulder. If he had long limbs he could've thrown 100 easy
6'2"

I lost a lot of respect for Joe with the way he simped her. He was completely over the top lying about how good this broad is saying she'd beat male UFC fighters in a higher weight division than her own. She was a good female fighter but not a generational talent or anything

I am amazed that a guy who's been watching a sport for 25 years could be so dead wrong about someone's talent level.

He usually knows what he's talking about with MMA so I don't think he actually thought any of that. He was either simping or Dana White was coercing him in some way to pump her up

No the shoulders are a major factor. Find me a guy with big shoulders that hits like a b&tch.I actually have gotten more power & speed after specifically targeting shoulders. Shoulder press, front/side delt raises, incline bench, Isometric wall pushes, most effective for me is push ups but with my legs on a chair(srs) that chit directly targets the shoulders. Even just hitting the bag helps. I only hit weights 3 times a week.

You dont have to believe me but all im saying is dont knock it till u try it. Also genetics play a factor some people struggle to grow muscles in certain areas, and maybe have an easier time in different areas. Good news is even a bit of gains will make a difference.

Tyson has Narrow hips. He just has big legs, and waistt his hips are small, and shoulders are big even at an old age. 220 lbs shredded, with manlet hips imagine the torque on his punches.

Another guy is Andy Ruiz. This guy is almost comically built. Look at his fuking build next to a welterweight . No wonder he has the fastest hands at heavyweight rn. Manlet hips while being tall is a gift

p4p strongest puncher.

Lol @ assuming its shoulders though. shoulders are involved but really it all comes down to posterior chain and core strength.

hooks and uppercuts barely involve any shoulder at all, jabs do the most with crosses coming second but crosses require just as much core and chest as well as hooks/uppercuts

glutes/abs/hips>shoulders for boxing

Well when you practice rolling with punches its not too smart to spar with a guy who knows what hes doing, so yea when sparring I would let my friends who arent really experienced boxers land shots on me. Big difference between an average guys punches, and an experienced boxer, but dont get me wrong there are guys out there who have never boxed in their lives who hit like a mule.

Duran has developed shoulder muscles, and small hips. Also you mentioned glutes? Yes, upper glute muscles increase explosiveness & agility which increases power. The shoulders are the main contributer in power.

He was a great fighter who packed a punch. Duran was a very smart fighter look at how he picked apart a much taller stronger boxer in a close fight.

i know who duran is, thats why i brought him up.

Point is, every boxer is going to have developed shoulders, not chit.

The important thing for punching power is strong hips and glutes though.

The only important part about your shoulders is the actual joint itself, how good your labrum and rotator cuff muscles are so they dont tear. the front delt will naturally get developed but there are much more important muscles for punching power. No, they cant be neglected, but majority of work should be abs and glutes.

Punching power comes from how much you can tense your glutes and abs at the point of impact, essentially making your body like an unmovable wall while your hips rotate as fast as possible. The power in a punch comes from this tensening of your body which starts with strong legs, glutes, abs, and shoulders and pecs, in that order of importance.

inb4 but why do boxers have twig legs. twig legs != they are not explosive. Most boxers can chop down the street like a cheetah

edit: hmm i guess I missed your main point: yes, its important to have a good shoulder to hip ratio. Thats why twinks like Ryan Garcia can hit the pads all they want but at most all he can expect is speed, not explosive knockout power. But why someone like Haney, even Rolly, can absolutely rip the bag
