Seems legit enough, depends on how lean you are though.

That era had amazing physiques. Check Jim Haislop's X frame.

First, Steve Reeves probably wasn't natty.

Second, as a natty, it depends on genetics and what bodyfat % you want to sit at. If you want to be 10% or under, good luck wih being 200lbs at 6'0 as a natty. Probably not going to happen. If you're happy at being more of a mid-range BF (14-15%), it's more attainable.

My Dad was 200-220lbs lean for much of his 20s and 30s at 5’7. He tells me he was natty, and gets extremely defensive and borderline offended by any doubts or challenges of his claim that I’ve made. But I have a difficult time believing that, simply because I am the same height with a similar bone structure and at my heaviest I was 216lbs but I was 25% bodyfat, by the time I cut down to 10-12% I was 160lbs, while my Dad at the same bodyfat range was over 200lbs in his prime. That doesn’t make sense.

Jim Haislop had a great physique, so did Reg Park. That era was more aesthetic than any other era of bodybuilding in my opinion.

In your opinion what is the biggest someone 5’7-5’8 could get at 10-14% bodyfat range naturally? Assuming their muscle building genetics are above average or good but not one percentile like elite pro bodybuilders.

10-14% is a big range. But as a ballpark, I would say:

5’7 10% ~155-165lbs
5’7 14% ~175-185lbs
5’8 10% ~160-170lbs
5’8 14% ~180-190lbs

^^^Pulled these numbers out of my ass, but from 8+ years of lifting, this sounds about right for a natty depending on genetics

Yeah I agree, as I was about 10% at 160lbs at 5’7 after years of lifting and probably have the ability to have an extra 5-10lbs of lean muscle tissue before I’ve completely maxed out my natural genetic potential at that body fat range. Right now I’m 206lbs at probably 18-19% if I get back down to 10% range I’d probably be around 165lbs which is about right considering I went through a successful bulk.

It’s sad man, he is an insecure person. I could go on a rant about it, it seems like once I went through puberty and started working out (which I saw as following his footsteps) he became more insecure.

the spread is just too big

the 2 most impressive natties I've ever known were 185 5'9 8-9% and 186 5'8 10%, and before "you have no idea if they were natural or not" losers step in trust me I know more than you regarding this ****, these ****ers were stronger and more developed at 12 years old than 90% of us after 2 years of lifting.

i'm on the lower end of that bell curve, I'd have never been over 150lbs 10% at 5'7

Yeah some people have those elite genetics, when my Dad graduated high school he was 180lbs shredded below 10% bodyfat at 5’7, whether he was natural later on is something I question him on but in high school he definitely was. Funny thing is he didn’t look that big, he looked like he had an wiry athletic build, he certainly didn’t look jacked or massive.

That’s why he said not elite 1st percentile genetics.

There will always be freaks, but I think most of us aren’t Larry Wheels and would be best served looking at reasonable-for-the-majority statistics regarding peak natty body composition

tbh keep in mind old guys lie to themselves long enough they believe their old stats, my grandfather if he's to be believed was the smallest 200lb human to ever walk the earth. so either he has bumped up how much he thought he weighed over the years or he defied the laws of physics

again tho its too much of a spread, some people are extremely dense and others damn near made out of air so weight is a terrible metric. The guys that look like they weigh 180 but only weigh 155 have better bodybuilding genetics than the guys that weigh 180 but look 155.

You mean bone structure? Yeah you could argue having smaller bones would be advantageous to bodybuilding because smaller joints make muscles look bigger in comparison (like small wrists making forearms look bigger).

That said, I don’t think people usually have 30lbs of extra bone mass than others at the same height. Could be wrong - but seems unlikely.

At 170lbs what was your bodyfat? Also yeah you are right, older guys have a tendency to exaggerate things. My Dad is 50 don’t know if that counts as old or not. He still has 18 inch arms at 206-210lbs lean.

Yeah bone length is a different story but two guys the same height, I find it hard to believe they would have a bone density/structure difference that would amount to 30lbs of more or less weight. Perhaps if their joints/bone structure is smaller, and their muscle bellies are much fuller that can create the illusion of looking considerably bigger.

I mean haven’t we all seen blacks the same weight as us or even lighter look considerably bigger than us even though they aren’t? I’ve come across blacks that I think their arms are an inch bigger than mine but they actually measure smaller.

bone structure but muscle and bone density as well make a huge difference.

2 best examples off the top of my head are buendia and breon (2 of the most honest pros about their weight they both don't get enough ups for that).

here's breon at 175 5'7

here's a much fatter breon at 195

buendia 5'7 165

buendia at 170 a year before the above pic

now these guys muscles are exaggerated next to a natural persons because of the glycogen retention but really think about how crazy low those weights are to look like that

no clue fatter than I want to be

once you hit 45 is when ive noticed all older guys seem to have been natural born phenoms, just saying if looking at pics of him when he says he weighed 200 but you know damn well he doesnt look like it chances are your eyes are right

That’s crazy because Franco Columbu at probably 5’3 or 5’4 tops was a little less than 190lbs. Goes to show how dense he was.

Yeah I was just wondering what your percentage was because I was probably around 15% at 170lbs and didn’t look like you, and we are the same height. So that’s possibly a solid example of how people carry weight differently if you were around that percentage.

My bone structure is probably upper average for my height, my wrists are 7.25 inches and my ankles are 9.25 inches.

i have a tiny structure overall, proportionally I'm not doing too bad but overall size of a human im not someone you'd ever walk by and say "damn that man is built like a door". my wrists are close to 5.5in

I'm 5'10 and, assuming 10% body fat, I could never sit at 185. I'm approaching 10%bf at the moment at the end of my cut and I'm going to be revolving around the mid 160s once complete. Putting on an extra 15 pounds of mass, accounting for body composition and all that (the more mass I gain, the lower my overall body fat percentage becomes), at my age seems impossible right now without outside assistance if you know what I mean.

Depends on genetics, your bone density, etc. I had a buddy who was only 5'8 and was able to sit at 185 lean. He's a bloatlord now, unfortunately.
