When your Doctor asks you questions about your lifestyle

How much is communicated to your insurance company?

Those million questions they ask like tobacco products, drinking, etc…do they inform your insurance

He said, "Yeah, don't ever tell a doctor you smoked, if you ever did, or your insurance rates will go up."

Now if a person is going to the doctor still smoking after a years and years long habit they will know without telling them. It will be obvious.

Thats what I figured

Like if you drank half a handle a day…insurance rates go up?
Smoked/smoking…insurance rates go up
Like how much on that checklist can make your insurance rates go up

I tell my doc the truth. Sexual partners, drinking etc... he asked if I was on cell tech last time I went in, I don't think he knows what a cell tech user actually looks like...

Life insurance companies will look into health info if you die and may not pay out the death benefit if you lied on their application and had other conflicting info in your medical history, etc.

I just would never admit you ever smoked, if you did. I also wouldn't admit if you are a friend of Bill.

Mind blown that the insurance wouldn’t know if you tell the doc you’re a heroin addict or some chit

I thought insurance companies send their own doctor to your house, takes blood, bp, weight, asks questions. I don't think they look through medical records. You'd have to send them, wouldn't you? But I don't think they ask for them since they want to do their own health check.

Yes, American.

Health insurance premiums do not go up if you have, for example diabetes or another condition. I think that's against the law now*.

For life insurance, they do take into account pre existing conditions and lifestyle, and premiums do go up if you are considered a risk. Too risky and they won't even insure you.

*Under the Affordable Care Act, health insurance companies can't refuse to cover you or charge you more just because you have a “pre-existing condition” — that is, a health problem you had before the date that new health coverage starts.

just about everything that isn't spoken "off the record" is being relayed back to them and will certainly be used against you going forward when it comes to them covering costs of medical care

I just checked and they can raise your premiums if you are a smoker.
They do not have full access to your medical history.
