In Major Ruling, Judge in Fraud Case Finds Trump Overvalued Property
The decision will simplify the path to victory for Attorney General Letitia James, who has accused former President Donald J. Trump of overvaluing his properties by as much as $2.2 billion.
The New York attorney general won a major victory in her civil case against Donald J. Trump on Tuesday when a New York judge determined that the former president fraudulently inflated the value of his assets to obtain favorable loans and insurance deals.

The decision by Justice Arthur F. Engoron precedes a trial that is scheduled to begin Monday, and could considerably smooth Attorney General Letitia James’s path.

Justice Engoron’s decision narrows the issues that will be heard, effectively deciding that the trial was not necessary to find that Mr. Trump was liable and that the core of Ms. James’s case was valid. It represents a major blow to Mr. Trump, whose lawyers had sought to persuade the judge to throw out many of the claims against the former president.

The judge also ordered sanctions against Mr. Trump’s lawyers for making arguments that he previously rejected. He ordered each to pay $7,500.

Maybe I'm just not educated on this. How does a business owner overinflate his own assets? Wouldn't a 3rd party appraisal determine its worth?

They were getting appraisals, but then reporting the values differently on the statements provided to lenders. Lenders often relied on Trump attesting to to the accuracy of the statements instead doing their own appraisals.

I think Trump is likely equally, or maybe even less corrupt than the rest of them. That some get away with it isn't an argument to me for leniency.

Lets say you are going to take out insurance on your house or get a loan with your house as collateral. They ask you how much your property is worth and you say it's worth $500K wuen in reality it's only worth 300K. Judge would say that's fraud if he thinks you knew better and inflated the price. However, it's up to the institution giving the loan or the insurance policy to have it appraised, but they didn't do that.


Yet another one where Trump isn't going to jail after liberals hoped. The only one where he might serve time is the GA case and just LOL @ you if you think that a black woman named Fani Willis (Willis lol srs) can make this happen.
