Some Gen Z job seekers are bringing mom and dad to interviews

...and it's turning off employers, new survey finds.

REally?? I cannot imagine why.

Some employers said they'd be willing to offer older professionals more benefits and higher salaries to avoid hiring new college graduates, a recent survey found.

Intelligent, an online magazine focused on student life, commissioned a Pollfish survey of 800 managers, directors, and executives involved in hiring in the US in December.

Thirty-nine percent of the employers who responded said they prefer to hire older job seekers over recent college graduates, in part because young professionals don't make a good first impression in job interviews.

More than half of the employers said young recruits struggled to make eye contact during the interview, and 50% said they asked for unreasonable compensation. Almost half of the employers said a young job candidate showed up in inappropriate attire, and nearly 20% said a recent college grad had brought a parent to a job interview.

Of the employers who said they prefer to hire older job seekers, 60% said they would be willing to offer more benefits to attract them, 59% said they would offer higher salaries, 48% said they would allow remote or hybrid-working opportunities, and 46% said they would be willing to hire overqualified candidates.

Young professionals also appear to have a reputation for being difficult to work with. Nearly two-thirds of employers said it was "very true" or "somewhat true" that recent college grads are "entitled," while 58% said it was very or somewhat true that they "get offended too easily."

Nearly 60% of bosses said it was very or somewhat true that recent grads are unprepared for the workforce, with more than half agreeing that young professionals "don't respond well to feedback" and have "poor communication skills."

As Gen Z has entered the workforce in increasing numbers in recent years, employers have expressed concerns about the younger generation's ability to adapt to corporate life.

PWC, Deloitte, and KPMG are among the major firms that have said Gen Z recruits who graduated during the pandemic struggle to exercise basic communication skills and office etiquette.

As a result, these companies have offered extra classes on soft skills such as how to send emails, what to wear to the office, and how to work in a team.

My friend worked at a supermarket during HS and she said a couple of applicants had their moms drop off applications for their moronic kids...one even got hired.

You're probably a millennial yourself, but even if you aren't, gen-x people aren't as different from millennials as you think. You were raised by the same boomer idiots millennials were, but lucked into entering a job market that was 10x better when you became adults than millennials did.

This isn’t anything new Per se. I’m an older millennial. When I was interviewing for med school, I can recall quite a few students that showed up with their parents. Their parents waited outside for them but were there all day to support them. Some kids are just sheltered. It’s probably no different for gen Z.

Meh, applying for school is different. I wouldn't judge someone for having a parent tag along with them in a new city they know next to nothing about, at a school they might not even end up attending. Not the same as a job interview.

How did you know they had parents outside, anyway? Did you look out for them in the parking lot or something? I never understood how people even notice stuff like that unless it's really obvious, like the parents came inside with them and stuck with them while they walked around.

Giving their kid a ride to a college interview is fine. Not the same thing as bringing a parent to a job interview. Hopefully by the time they graduate med school they can handle going to the hospital interview all by themselves.

Not sure if this was intended but I lol'd hard af towards the end at how they essentially called them remedial. Been wondering about what's gonna happen to this world after Boomers & Gen X die off. Millenials started the entitlement trend, imagine when it's them and Zoomers running the world.

Worst thing about millennials is that they make fun of themselves while not realizing they are millennials. (I’m talking to all you mid-late 30s, early 40s brahs)

We’re basically boomers at this point

Also we’re the ones who had to deal with the Great Recession, gen x are the ones who got the easy times pass.
