US Miscers, is there wierd chit going in the woods?

For US miscers.

I love listening to Missing 411 podcasts, paranormal podcasts, strange stories in the woods podcasts etc. Bigfoot, Dogman, UFO abductions etc. Very entertaining listening while I lay in bed.

It seems like there are quite a few weird disappearances in the US forests and national parks. The media doesn't really report on it. What are your thoughts? Is there something weird (not necessarily supernatural) going in the woods responsible for these disappearances?

Or are Missing 411 and other paranormal theories framing it in a particular way to make it look more mysterious than they are, and these disappearances are all just people getting lost, killed by animals, falling off cliffs, going off grid etc?

Thoughts appreciated. Scary first hand stories really appreciated!

Majority of cases are late stage hypothermia where people undress and get themselves into weird positions. However, a few cases involve crossing of rivers and mountains in a short period of time that the person (old or toddler) couldn't achieve. A handful of interesting cases with multiple eye witnesses saying they saw a bigfoot like creature carrying someone.

Another thing to remember is that there are 20 or so active serial killers in the United States alone, guess the only place left with no cameras that doesn't hold DNA for long...

Reply was going well until you lost self-control and threw child-tier insults around.

Although, I don't think serial killers could really be the explanation. Assuming whatever is doing this is an intelligent agent, it's getting away with it every single time and hasn't been caught, or even really seen. I struggle to think a single human, or even a group, could be that efficient.

I mean, some of these disappearances involve someone lagging behind a group hiking, someone else turns around 3 seconds later, and.....they're gone.

I goto a ton of abandoned places i find out in the woods. mostly old sheds that were for the oil boom in the early 1930's - 40's. I had a board drop off ceiling and nearly hit me and an old jug fall off a shelf and smash when i was in this joint. Im not sayin it was a ghost or squatch but it was a ghost or squatch.

actually hunted from inside this place. Set turkey decoy 30 ft. outside one of these windows and sat in a chair calling while it was raining.

Now, keep in mind, im always thinkin in the back of my mind i may find an HBB out there who wants to clap cheeks. So far this has been more elusive than squatch himself to find but I keep looking.

Or that's what people remember happened. People's memories are not reliable. Not to mention, if you were irresponsible and let your friend get disconnected from the hiking group, you are more likely to tell yourself it was only three seconds later you turned around.

Well you do have complete morons roaming around forests where they don't belong.
AUGUSTA, Me. — She was afraid of being alone and prone to anxiety, a diminutive 66-year-old woman with a poor sense of direction, hiking the Appalachian Trail by herself, who wandered into terrain so wild, it is used for military training. She waited nearly a month in the Maine woods for help that never came.

Geraldine A. Largay chronicled her journey in a black-covered notebook that summer of 2013, and she kept writing after she lost her way, even as her food supply dwindled along with her hopes of being found. Her last entry reflected a strikingly graceful acceptance of what was coming.

“When you find my body, please call my husband George and my daughter Kerry,” she wrote. “It will be the greatest kindness for them to know that I am dead and where you found me — no matter how many years from now.”

It would be two years before a logging company surveyor stumbled upon her campsite and remains, solving a mystery that had tormented her family and defied teams of experienced searchers. Ms. Largay, a retired nurse from Tennessee, had survived nearly a month on her own — longer than many old backwoods hands thought possible — before dying of exposure and starvation.

On Thursday, the Maine Warden Service released more than 1,500 pages of its files on her disappearance, shedding light on the fears of her friends and family and the search that pursued countless false leads. The documents include brief excerpts from her journal and the plaintive text messages she tried in vain to send to her husband from a place beyond the reach of cell towers.

“Lost since yesterday,” she texted. “Off trail 3 or 4 miles. Call police for what to do pls.”

In fact, she had set up camp less than two miles off the trail. There, with her black tent and her possessions neatly sorted into Ziploc bags, she penned a note to her husband on the cover of the journal: “George Please Read XOXO.”

Ms. Largay had adopted the trail name Inchworm, making light of her pace, but that pace had taken her nearly 1,000 miles from Harpers Ferry, W.Va., where she and a friend, Jane Lee, had set off on April 23, 2013. Her husband of 42 years, George Largay, drove ahead and met them in prearranged spots with supplies, and sometimes took them to motels for showers and a night indoors.

On June 30, in New Hampshire, Ms. Lee cut short her hike to tend to a family emergency, but Ms. Largay insisted on continuing.

Later, Ms. Lee would tell an investigator “that Geraldine had a poor sense of direction,” the Warden Service’s investigative report said. “Ms. Lee said that Geraldine had taken a wrong turn on the trail, more than once,” and Ms. Largay “became flustered and combative when she made these kinds of mistakes.”

Ms. Largay, a meticulous planner, was gregarious and made friends easily on the trail. But she feared the dark and being alone, said Ms. Lee, who told park wardens “that George did not know the extent of Geraldine’s inability to deal with the rigors and challenges of the trail.”

But after he reported his wife missing, Mr. Largay told an investigator that “Gerry was probably in over her head.”

Her doctor would tell investigators that once she ran out of the medication she took for anxiety, she could suffer panic attacks.

Ms. Largay spent the night of July 21-22 in the Poplar Ridge lean-to in western Maine, less than 200 miles from the end of the trail. Her smile was so infectious that before she set off the next morning, a fellow hiker, Dottie Rust, asked to take her picture. In the photo, she is beaming and wearing her backpack, her socks pulled high, as hikers do to ward off scrapes and blisters.

It was about 6:30 a.m., the last time anyone was known to see her alive. By 11 a.m., she was lost.

“In somm trouble,” Ms. Largay wrote in a text message to her husband. “Got off trail to go to br. Now lost.” She asked him to call the Appalachian Mountain Club “to c if a trail maintainer can help me. Somewhere north of woods road. Xox.”

The message was never received.

Ms. Largay had left the trail in one its most rugged sections, with thick underbrush and fir trees packed so tightly they almost seem to merge.

“You step off the trail 20 or 50 feet and turn around, it’s very difficult to see where the trail was,” said Douglas Dolan, 53, a volunteer who spent time last summer doing trail maintenance in the area. “If you didn’t know which way the trail was, you could easily walk in circles for hours.”

Ms. Largay sought high ground, possibly hoping for a cell signal. She tried over and over to send messages, but none went through.

On July 23, she set up camp, laying her tent atop sticks and pine needles, under a canopy of hemlocks that probably obscured her from airborne rescuers. She tied a shiny silver blanket between two trees, possibly to attract attention, and nearby trees had burn marks.

“It looks like some sort of fire was attempted on those trees by Gerry,” wrote Lt. Kevin Adam, of the Warden Service, in a report.

She was supposed to meet Mr. Largay on July 23, at Route 27 in Wyman Township. The next day, he reported her missing.

Multiple agencies and volunteers joined the hunt, with searchers on foot, on horseback and in helicopters. She was less than a mile from the trail, close enough that searchers probably passed near her without realizing it. Investigators questioned hikers who might have crossed paths with Ms. Largay, and they tested the DNA on a discarded Band-Aid.

And they were inundated with false tips to be pursued.

People suggested that she had been murdered, that she might be lodged in treetops, that she had fallen in the river and that she had been spotted at a women’s shelter in Tennessee. Some hikers thought they might have seen her on the trail but weren’t sure; others had seen sketchy men who they thought might have done her harm. Psychics called to report visions of her, including one who insisted, incorrectly, that she had broken her ankle.

Search efforts were scaled back on Aug. 4. Ms. Largay kept writing daily observations and letters to her family in her journal until Aug. 10, even drawing out a calendar to keep track of the days. She wrote a final entry that she dated Aug. 18, though investigators are not sure the date is accurate.

Her remains were found on Oct. 14, 2015, inside her sleeping bag, in a campsite she had kept neat until the very end. Around her was the ample gear she had hauled — items like a blue and white bandanna, a rosary, birthday candles, lighters, dental floss, a sewing kit and two water bottles, one still containing water.

When Ms. Largay’s family visited the patch of wilderness, two weeks later, they left a white wooden cross, decorated with messages etched in black marker. One, written in a child’s hand, said, “I wish you were here.”

No, Paulides is a fraud. I have most of the 411 books, but only because I like missing persons cases. The they went missing near berries or water or trees stuff is as dumb as it-gets, these people are mostly going missing in national parks, forests etc-of course they will be going missing near these things. The trying to find some meaning in the ages of people who went missing is retarded as well-in 1956 a 7 year old went missing, 40 years later a 70 year old went missing-is there something about the number 7 that leads to them going missing? No you dumbass.

Of course despite pushing the Bigfoot stuff & his merch being festooned in Bigfoot images, he skirts around by saying something mysterious-if you think it is Bigfoot then just have the guts to say it.

How is he a fraud? I know he's a Bigfoot believer but even he admits some of these cases don't lend themselves to a Bigfoot explanation, like the case of three guys on a boat near shore who literally just vanished.

He might make a spurious connection between the ages of those who disappear, but is he literally lying about the details of the case, such as not telling us the person fell off a cliff or got lost, or there were signs of an animal attack?

We come across an amphitheatre way out in the woods, covered in leaves and dirt of course, but it looked like it could accommodate a hundred people at least. It had a flat area in the centre, too.

No idea who built it or what it was used for (a cult?).

Idk but I find it quite odd there is a statue of a “owl god” in the Forrest in California

Almost like certain people who push to kill babies and live in California worship a owl.

I ran and got my buddy who quickly grabbed it and cut its throat. So for like 10 minutes it was in agony/terror because I was too much of a pussy/inexperienced to just put another slug through his head.

After that my hunting was cursed. Went out without a "doe tag" (license to shoot a female deer) and like 9 of them camped out in front of me for like 4 hours without a Buck coming up. Beautiful plump deer that I could have killed with a rock they were so close.

Then I went out once for squirrel because they were all over for deer season, and the 2 dozen squirrels were gone, but plenty of deer. Deer were out of season and I had a small caliber so was fukked there.

Now I just hike.

Found this tree in the woods, think it's cool AF

It seems like there are quite a few weird disappearances in the US forests and national parks. The media doesn't really report on it. What are your thoughts? Is there something weird (not necessarily supernatural) going in the woods responsible for these disappearances?

Or are Missing 411 and other paranormal theories framing it in a particular way to make it look more mysterious than they are, and these disappearances are all just people getting lost, killed by animals, falling off cliffs, going off grid etc?

It's people getting lost or falling off cliffs. I go hiking pretty frequently in areas with no cell service & low foot traffic and there are plenty of opportunities for the unprepared to go missing/trip and fall down a hillside. Only thing I've ever encountered that I'd consider weird was meeting a couple of indians (legitimately traveling from India) that were way off the trail, like myself. The majority of hikers stick strictly to the AllTrails maps, so it's fairly unusual seeing someone outside of the designated paths.

I was hiking up to Pleasant's Peak in California and decided to take a different route than the suggested one, going through Hagador Canyon instead of the suggested Skinsuit Trail. The canyon trail is pretty decently trafficked, but is maybe 2-3 miles one way, and I'd need to go beyond it's end point by climbing boulders for a solid few miles to avoid Skinsuit trail and proceed to the top of Pleasant's peak. I remember getting to a beautiful area with a small waterfall where I had to jump a small gap to continue and decided to sit and enjoy the view for a minute when I heard the indians. Blew my mind because I hadn't seen anyone for maybe two hours. The guys were fairly normal, just traveling around the world (their next stop was Ecuador). I took a picture of them next to the waterfall which they appreciated. They tried offering me water (no thx jeff lmao) and tried getting me to eat some leaves from the trees in the area claiming they were valuable spices. I declined obviously, and we parted ways.

The story that freaked me out was when these two people were hiking not far from each other , and the person ahead just suddenly vanished , never to be seen again .
That would be some weird chit . All I can think of is they fell in a hole

Manbearpig. We need Al Gore on the case.

This is totally unrelated to my first post . I was not aware of these hikers dying by the plane crash up York Creek basin.
I have dirt biked there several times and srs have no idea how one would die there .
I have seen a few grizzly bears ,but that’s about it . They didn’t mention how they died in the article . Very weird
