got invisalign a few days ago. sh*t f*cking sucks, srs.

edit: I have 9 weeks left having done 20 weeks so far and I take it all back. the 1st week was weird and uncomfortable but now they're a part of my routine and I can easily pop them in and out whenever i want to. I'm not super careful about it anymore, like i don't brush my teeth every time i eat something i usually just swoosh with water a bit or something.

Teeth aren't crooked but my bite is off by a bit enough to give me an uncomofrtable click in my jaw so getting it taken care of.

jebus brahs they really oversell these things.

i had braces in highschool and honestly they were more convenient than invisaligns.

they aren't JUST plastic molds that you put in and take out.
they ALSO cement attachments onto your canines and molars so the plastic mold can set properly and push/pull the teeth as needed.

Means taking them out and putting them in is this embarrassing manuever where you gotta stick your fingers into the bakc of your mouth and peel them off the inside back molars and THEN use both hands, 1 finger 1 thumb each, to grab the damn things hoping they don't reset back down, and tug and pull until it finds it's magic unattachment position.

now that they're out, the f*cking spikes they cemented on are more unfomfortable than your plastic inserts. So you're chewing food while these abbrasives chew at the inside of your lips and cheeks.

While eating, say goodbye to smiling. The spikes hold all food in place. So you gotta f*cking brush your teeth after eating anything.

With these things, eating requires an entire new ritual.

and you can't eat or drink throughout the day because of this new ritual. I used to grab a banana and coffee out the door, protein shake at work, munch on some vegetables and almonds till lunch, yogurt after lunch, protein shake before gym.

NO say goodbye to all that because each bite and sip requires you to take the things out, eat/drink, the brush your teeth before re-inserting.

It's f*cking inconvenient as sh*t

Sounds rough. I did get the impression they were just simple mouth guards or something

Really?

Maybe most people don't need to get the cement part since they have just crooked teeth, but you're a special case, and its jaw reshaping being done, so yours is a more severe case.

Anyone else have input on invisalines?

I paid my dentist to make a mold of my teeth for whitening trays. But phæggot gave me a broken mold to take home which pissed me off, and I never actually used the trays out of disgust.

I bought a big pack of cheap heat moldable mouthguards to prevent my clenching at night, theyre low cost on amazon. Not high quality but I imagine they'd be great for teeth whitening purposes

i've known several people who had invisaligns both through dentist or smiledirect club

None of them complained as much as OP is complaining, though they all did need the tabs to retain the molds

Looking into it, they're called "attachments" and you're right not everyone needs them all the time. and it seems in some cases they are only recommended and can be done without attachments though it may take more time.

OP read this carefully. I have invisalign for years. I first straightened my teeth and I should have stopped there. I then went on and did bite correction. this had a drastic negative impact on my side profile. they pulled my upper teeth back, giving me a loss of upper lip support. they pressed my lower teeth forward, which gave me the appearance of a much smaller chin. I eventually got a sliding genioplasty to correct my side profile. but if I could go back in time I would have just straightened my teeth and maybe not fuked with my bite.

I've been in invisalign for months. Those attachments are sharp at first but they wear down as you put on and take off the liners. You will get used to the liners, trust me. Just wear the things most of the time. If you are going out to dinner, take them off before hand so you aren't removing them at the table.

My orthodontist told me you do NOT have to wear them the 23 hours they say to…they say that because compliance is not great so they overstate how many hours in a day you actually need them. I'm waiting for liners now and to maintain my ortho said 16 hours is enough.

18 months is the average length time to wear them. Then you wear your retainer every night…for life.

Anyway I'm almost done:

this is because you were a jaw surgery case but your dumb **** orthodontist camouflaged your bad bite instead of doing it the right way.

has absolutely nothing to do with invisalign.

THIS. This is the other thing. That sounds insanely inconvenient, you have to wear them every night, for life? That's the hassle for me. Seriously? Ugh
But the alternative is your teeth go to sh*t. I mean, we will all get old but at least we can hold onto our perfectly straight teeth right?

Actually invisalign helps because if you scrape the teeth it won't hurt. Invisalign is rounded on the bottoms and smooth.

UK is sadly becoming more cosmetically minded as well. People need to stop being so vain/insecure with such things. Dentistry should just be there to clean your teeth & repair damage-unless like the OP there is actually an issue with discomfort/pain. Who really gives a crap about overlapping teeth or any of the rest of it?

I have one month left and it’ll be about a year since I started. I opted for Spark aligners instead since it was cheaper and supposedly better. It gets worst towards the end of your treatment. My original plan was 27 aligners but around aligner 20 it wouldn’t fit anymore so they made me another new dozen. Now I have 4 more aligners to go and it gets harder and harder to fit. I wore my previous aligner for 3 weeks before swapping to my current one and almost gave up because it was so hard to put on. It just wouldn’t fit until I looked up some YouTube videos and started bending the aligners towards the molars to make them fit. Also every time I change to new aligner now tooth is in pain for 3 days and can’t chew or eat anything hard. My meals have been protein shakes, porridge, smashed sweet potatoes n soft foods. If I can’t any fit the next one im done but glad it’s coming to an end soon.

I am 100% on board with invisalign for just about everyone. I notice people's teeth though. And as people get old they may find that their bottom teeth become exposed. A sign of youth is the top teeth showing and when people get older they stop showing so much. (◕︿◕✿)

I didn’t really need aligners but since my insurance paid half, I decided to get them. Its benefit is not necessarily only cosmetic. With straight teeth and even bite, it’s a lot easier to clean, floss, brush the surface of straight teeth. When you get a mold for teeth whitening it’s easier to whiten teeth than making a mold for crooked teeth since the whitening gel won’t reach certain areas. Also, best part of it is not needing a thick ass uncomfortable bite guard if you grind your teeth at night. Aligners and retainers keep your teeth straight and also work as a bite guard.

It's interesting to notice the teeth of actors in movies that came out before the 90's because before then only extreme dental issues were addressed with braces. Since the late 90's everyone has perfect, straight, white teeth.

i have mine for 20 weeks, it's a very minor correction. they're widening my upper and lower pallet by essentially "blooming" (my word) my molars more up and down rather than slightly turned in, and setting things up to my bottom jaw can rest in it's rightful position, slightly more forward than it does now.

I had this done in highschool and it was an incredible few months, but then i stopped giving a sh*t about my retainer and 20 years later here I am. I'l wear the night retainer every night this time

Just finished my invisilign.

I had the “anchors” attached my my teeth as well. I wasn’t expecting that when I signed up. Mine were all on the front teeth, not my molars.

You get used to everything you’re complaining about within a week or two.

I was happy with my results, but I was hoping I’d get more of an adjustment to my bite than what I got.

2 pro tips.

A- go on Amazon and order like a 5 pack of cheap retainer cases and just squirrel them away where you most commonly are. I’d keep one in my car, one in a jacket I used a lot, one in my gym bag etc. then I was never without a case.

B- don’t leave them out to get dried out with your plaque on it. Keep a cup next to your sink with 50/50 water and hydrogen peroxide. It would keep the retainers clean

Really annoying-even in wrestling you could remember back & Cactus Jack & other monster heels would have missing teeth, yellow teeth, black teeth etc. When they unveiled the supposed swamp dwelling, hillbilly Wyatt family a decade or so back they all had perfect white teeth.

Yep, with your case I get it-there is a genuine mechanical issue that causes discomfort. So many it is just pure vanity, like with the Botox fillers & facial surgeries that beautiful women get that mess up their face.
