all the best video game music was written from 1980s to 1990s when hardware was too limited to rely on big orchestral scores and sound effects. Koji Kondo wrote the most iconic scores with like 4 audio channels on the NES that will never be surpassed, because back then you needed strong melodies and creatively approach harmonies to make good scores, kinda like JS Bach and the baroque composers when musical instruments were more primitive.
