Man overdoses on Vitamin D and dies

https://www.foxnews.com/health/man-d...scade-problems

"What is a safe level of vitamin D?
For healthy adults, 600 international units (IU) of vitamin D (15 mcg) per day is all that's necessary, according to Pieter Cohen, associate professor of medicine at the Cambridge Health Alliance in Massachusetts."

lol arnt some of you morons eating like 4k IU/daily?

vitamin d should be acquired from the sun only. supplementing anything like this has risks so if you must supplement be careful. much better to get tons of sun in summer/fall to store up vitamin d for winter.

i am not a doctor, you're an idiot if you listen to me

Dam wtf how much was he taking?

I currently take 10k daily and 50k 3 days out the week. So Prob like 500k weekly. Have been doing it for 6+ years

Last year I legit would take 50k a day everyday for a year straight

When I don’t take it I get brain fog but I might lower it now

Was taking 6k IU/day and blood test showed my levels were over 90. Reduced dosage to 4k for several months and when I had a recent blood test, levels were at 60. According to my doctor, for immune system benefits as long as your D levels are above 50 you're fine. My doctor also said that there are no significant increases in immune system efficiency when your D level goes higher than 50-60. So it looks like 4k IU/day is the ideal dosage for me (I rarely get sun exposure so I need to supplement). 10k IU/day seems way too excessive.

Niacin can kill you too and they stuff that chit in vitamin water and energy drinks.

Serious side effects are most likely if you take between 2,000 to 6,000 mg of niacin a day. If you think you might have overdosed on niacin, seek medical attention immediately. If you have liver disease, peptic ulcer disease or severe low blood pressure (hypotension), don't take large amounts of niacin.

Dude must have been megadosing on super strength tablets for 9 months-still, he was 89 & not sure if the other issues were caused by the D, or he already had them. Literally everybody in the UK is deficient most of the year due to our climate.

Refreshing to see so many people aware of high dose vit D supplementation

It is important to note that high doses will stress your system, you'll know when the stress happens because you'll start pissing a hell of allot more, for me it was every 45 mins

Did anyone actually read the article? The guy who died was 89 and died for other reasons as well including:

Vitamin D toxicity was listed as one of the factors in Michener’s death, along with congestive heart failure, ischemic heart disease, chronic kidney failure and hypercalcemia.

Doesn't seem to be any details-not even whether it was prescribed, or if he got it from Vitamin companies-they used to really target the elderly via post/junk mail through the door before the internet took off in the mid 2000's & they still push vitamins on television adverts. They tried putting me on them years back as I was 'a bit low' I told them no thanks & just went out in the sun a bit more.

3 long term, serious issues. And anyone with chronic kidney failure has to be careful about what they take. Kidney failure = person can easily have very high sodium, potassium, or calcium levels. Taking lots of Vit D will only exacerbate the calcium levels out of whack with kidney failure. Like a diabetic having a big bag of Skittles every day.

I've been taking 5k IU daily of vitamin d for years, until last fall when i got lazy or just wanted to do the bare minimum since i saw no need for high dose, and took 2k IU vitamin d daily. During january i got the flu, and in early february got covid for the first time. I have not been sick since 2021. Coincidence?

Sad thing is all people need to do is eat more foods with it in/get more sunshine. The chances of you getting it from foods or diet is practically zero.

Vitamin D toxicity, also called hypervitaminosis D, is a rare but potentially serious condition that occurs when you have excessive amounts of vitamin D in your body. Vitamin D toxicity is usually caused by large doses of vitamin D supplements — not by diet or sun exposure.

Be careful of too much Beta-Carotene as well, or you end up looking like this.

From the autopsy/toxicology. It is rare-but yes, some idiot doctors put old people on stupidly high doses for a long time & old people are the ones the Vitamins & Minerals clowns advertise their super strength pills to-since they grew up when that crap about you can't get what you need from food alone started being pushed down their throats.

But yes, unless those other conditions were caused by this, then at 89 he likely wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway with those problems.
