What would happen if people no longer had to work?

I'm not suggesting a specific scenario how practically it could happen, basic income, robots do all the work and just pay us, etc…no idea…

But what if people could just do as they pleased every day, without having to report to work?

Work gives people structure and a purpose…without it, in 5 years, what would the world look like?

They would be even bigger degenerates.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Society would collapse srs.

We need a workforce. First and foremost because modern men and women are incapable of providing for themselves and maintaining modern day comforts requires manpower that cannot get be replaced with automation. Yet.

However the deeper issue is that at least half of the population needs the structure and routine of work or they will completely fall apart. We saw this during the Covid lockdowns where millions of people had a mental breakdown simply because they had nothing to do. Instead of channeling their free time into productive endeavors, these individuals turned to depressive wallowing, substance abuse, their marriages failed, they became hopeless without a set of daily instructions. That’s just the way this segment of the population is wired, no getting around that fundamental reality.

On the other hand, there were millions of people who took the initiative to improve their lives during that same period. They could probably be entrusted with unlimited freedom to do as they wish, however I would still be skeptical that it’s sustainable in the long term. Humans need to be doing something.

Trust me, I hate work more than most anyone, but I would absolutely need to replace it with a meaningful hobby or goal instead of treating life like a vacation.

We've already reached that point; I can go out at any hour of a weekday and there are thousands upon thousands of people not working in any small city/town

They're living off government handouts & unreported income from side hustles

That's the thing.

I think that a huge number of people would not do well. So many peoples whole lives revolve around the identity their work gives them.

And it's mostly all bull**** imo.

I somewhat agree, but I don't think it's fair to use covid as an argument. Large portions of society were shutdown, and many people lived in fear and locked themselves away. It's probably closer to a work-free lifestyle experiment than anything else before, but I think it's still very far.

People will always need to *work* but I picture a Star Trek type of future where money doesn’t exist so people no longer need to punch a clock to provide for themselves and instead can pursue what they enjoy + are passionate about

Won’t happen

The goal of the 9-5 is to turn you into a 5 (see chart 1-5)

Without 9-5 you’ll be able to have more independent thoughts, you’ll have intuition and your third eye will be open

You basically become an aware
