I wouldn't. Boats are terrible investments, money drains and only fun for a few months.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

As someone who owns several boats and has spent far more time in boats than a car, I offer the following advice:

Thats an old boat, and could have a ton of old boat issues. How many hours are on the engine? Mercruiser or volvo penta?

Wet and rotten stringers and transom are likely.

Bullhead is a ways from the ocean, but if it was in saltwater there will be engine corrosion from a boat that age.

That said, its a good price. Just know that its NOT new, so if and when something goes wrong you will be dealing with some expense. It will be hard on fuel for its size.

Some questions people dont ask themselves:

where will I keep it?
Who will service it? Service costs?
Can I tow it?
Does it have a trailer?
What do I do if it breaks down out on the water? What is my plan for a tow back?
Do I need liability insurance?
Does insurance cover me if it sinks, leaks all the fuel into the water and the EPA comes after me?

If you have a plan, go for it! If you are a first time boat owner, you'd do better spending more money on a similar, or slightly smaller sized boat with a good used Yamaha or Suzuki four stroke outboard engine (2015 ish and newer, 200-600 hrs) that is very reliable.

Worst thing would be to buy a boat, have a chit experience and never want to do it again when in my opinion its the best thing in the world.

Hope that helps

I will add that wellcraft did make very good boats. We have a wellcraft as our taxi boat currently of a mid 90s vintage and its a great rough water hull.

Make sure the floorboards are solid and not squishy. Same with the fiberglass around the motor and bilge. Personally I'd never get an io. Every single one we had growing up had overheat and carburator problems. Outboards are better.

just rent and see if you like it for a while. getting rid of a boat must be such a loss reality. can't imagine unless you plan to LIVE on the water its worth it.
