The Lord Jesus Christ saves believers. We have redemption through his blood and the forgiveness of all past sins and even future sins when we mess up.

In whom(Jesus) we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

…And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father(God), Jesus Christ the righteous.

Why do you think Christ died for our sins? The atonement was performed in the garden of gethsemane before he was crucified. His death was necessary so that he could be resurrected and so that we will all receive immortality.
