Unsolved Mystery: Alonzo Brown death by racist white kids

On April 3, 2004, Alonzo and three friends (Justin Sprague, Daniel Fune, and Tyler Broughard) attended a going away party at a rural farmhouse in La Cygne. There were about 100 guests between the ages of 16 and 25, and Alonzo was one of only three Black people there that night.

During the party, Alonzo was the target of racial slurs. His friend Daniel had to break up a fight between him and another attendee at one point.

Daniel and Tyler eventually left to go to another party. Justin was supposed to be Alonzo’s ride, but when Justin left to get cigarettes, he took a wrong turn and got lost. Justin called Adam, a friend at the party, and asked if he could take Alonzo home. However, when Adam was about to leave, he couldn’t find Alonzo and assumed he had left with someone else.

Rodney English, a friend of Alonzo’s, went to the farmhouse to look for him and found his boots and hat across the street. In the meantime, the 23-year-old's family reported him missing to the local police.

Authorities conducted searches with the help of canines and a helicopter while rescue divers scoured Middle Creek, a body of water adjacent to the property. There were no signs of Alonzo. They didn’t allow the family to search until nearly 30 days after his disappearance.

On May 1, the family searched the farmhouse’s property with a team of 50 volunteers. Within an hour, his father Billy and a family friend found Alonzo’s body on top of a pile of tree branches at the bottom of an embankment along Middle Creek.

He was fully clothed and had his belongings, including a ring and his wallet, still with cash inside.

Alonzo had been missing for 24 days. Billy said his son’s body did not look as if it had been in the water for that long. There are rumors the perpetrators stored him in a freezer.

The initial investigation did not lead to any arrests, and the case was cold until it was featured in a 2020 episode of Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries.

Alonzo’s body was exhumed from a Topeka cemetery and transported to the Dover Air Force Base. A new autopsy by the Armed Forces Medical Examiner revealed the 23-year-old had suffered injuries that were not consistent with decomposition, and the case was reclassified as a homicide. The FBI is investigating the case as a possible hate crime.
He apparently was talking with a white girl, and they were flirting with each other, and her bf and other white boys got upset.. rumors for years were that his “friends” had overheard or been told that Alonzo was about to get jumped and they ditched him out of fear.

The party was over an hour away from where Alonzo and his friends lived, and they all just decided to leave without him in an area known for some racists ass small dick white boys

I kept thinking it must have been a very small number of guys that did it then.

No way could 100+ people keep quiet about it.

I think it was more that up to 100 people were at the party, but a small group of them jumped Alonzo and killed him, and when people heard that rumor they started to leave

I read that cops were pretty sure it was over a specific girl there, and most of the people who were involved lawyered up quick. One of the main potential suspects is the son a local judge

Because their communities value life, respect LE, and their victimizers are usually sub 90 IQ. Let's be real, ALL criminals who commit impulsive and violent crimes are usually border-line retards.

Interesting story OP. Sucks for that kid's family. Hopefully they get justice now that the case has been reopened.

Also, solid race baiting. SMH. The topic is old no matter who is pitching it. And if we really want to drill down on crime demographics, it's less than 5% of the population committing 60+% of the violent crime. Maybe we should try to solve that problem instead of ignoring it because it's painful to admit/address.

Either way you slice it, violent criminals, regardless of their demographic, need to be wiped out of existence, in public, as an example that violent crime will not be tolerated.

His case is a very important lesson in that sometimes your friends aren’t really your friends

The fact that his friends thought he’d be okay around that area is crazy, but even worse leaving him there an hour away in the middle of nowhere is insane
