a lot of Runners are Deceptively Strong

they just don't carry all the extra "bulk" that the "relaxed-fit" wearing weightlifters carry around on their waist, hips, and thighs

Sprinting takes a lot of explosive power

Marathon twinks just have good discipline to fight through boredom and fatigue

long distance training develops the kind of HARD quality of mental toughness one observes in elite soldiers

so common to hear chaps say "I hate running", why is that? It's indicative of mental WEAKNESS. Same chaps will also insinuate "running's for sissies"

running at the minimum test of 5K where one challenges himself to his MAXIMUM limit for that 5K trains the MASCULINE constitution in the way that 3-to-5 reps X 5 sets X 3-to-5minutes REST breaks can't compare

Road work is fundamental to all boxers and fighters, cardio is a huge component of a fight and running builds your legs and pecs and shoulders

I weight lift and run. If I don’t carb up the day before a long run I usually gas out. This is very true. You need carbs if you are running 4 miles ++. When my cardio is at a high level I m more ripped and stronger in the gym.

Anyone running anything over the 800 competitively looks like chit and half the 800 runners look like POWs. High intensity is the best way to train cardio. Do walking/sprinting splits

how's the quality of life for natty bodybuilders? boiled chicken-breast and steam veggies with plain rice every day? No thanks bro

and how well do those "enhanced" bodybuilders age?

to get trim weightlifters have to suffer the sacrifice of enjoying life's pleasure of good food and drink

meanwhile the runner can enjoy the pleasure of food and drink(in reasonable moderation) without suffering the misery of sacrifice that the "showdogs" suffer in their abstinence….and runners also develop a kind of functional capability to move the body while the weightlifters are concerned with protecting "muh gainz" to maintain a body that is made for showdogging and not much more

Sprinters, the only runners who look good, don't burn all that many calories in their training though. They also lift…

Sprinters yes. Distance runners, not so much. I know a couple of guys that do marathons/utra marathons/triathlons. One of them trained like a BBer for years. Switched to endurance sports. According to him the major draw-back to being at a 'competitive' level for triathlons and ultra marathons is he's extremely weak now. Very few of those guys maintain decent muscle. Cameron Hanes is the only one I can think of with a respectable physique. And he's been a gym rat and a runner for like 30+ years.

Running can be beneficial for athletes but IMO its not the best form of cardio. Rucking with a weighted pack or hiking up steep inclines is more effective at building strength/endurance and for a cardio workout.

Once you know the technique and build your heart/lungs to run. Its easy. Even if you quit doing it for a long period of time its relatively easy to get it back. I hate running because its boring. I run 20 minutes about 2x per month to maintain my two mile time. But that's it. The way I figure it a 7 minute 1 mile and a 20 minute two mile is really all you need to be elite over like 99% of the population. Slow as **** by runners standards but most people can't make those numbers.

both Sprinters and Distance Runners Lift these days and is the point of this thread. A lot of HuskyFat Boomer WeightLifters have this antiquated notion that Runners aren't strong and/or are sissies because of their LEANness. Those boomers failed to realize the jogger-pants fashion trend. "Stocky" is no longer a compliment.

Not really. In high school and in college I was by a good amount the strongest person on the track team. I was a sprinter so that was no surprise but even other sprinters were meh when it came to strength. The one truth is long distance runners aren't complete sissies anymore, stronger than couch potatoes that never exercise.
Yeah Buddyyy! Light weight! Light weight baby!!!!

I would speculate that most srs runners are "strong enough". Meaning most fitness enthusiasts these days run and can do some pull-ups and push-ups and if one can do a few pull-ups, I'd say they are strong-enough and it's unnecessary to be able to deadlift more than 150-to-200lbs

running pounds your body, strengthening it thoroughly.

my GF is a Chubby JapGal who HATES running and instead enjoys cooking, eating, and weight-lifting. It's great, she's got a thick waist and some "junk in the trunk". 5' 140lbs. I wouldn't want a HARD muscled 6packABS Tarzan looking runner GF.

The only good thing about running long distance is that you can snack a good bit and not put on weight. While I do think gymbros underestimate the importance of cardio, I'll stick to weight training and just getting in 10K steps, hiking, etc. for cardio instead of being a jogcel, thank you very much.
