Are gym goers weaker than ever in 2024?

After 15 years of lifting, I can definitely say the gym has changed a lot for the worse.

A decade ago most people in the gym… actually looked like they lifted. Lots of dudes who could bench 2+ plates, women who were there to actually workout and not sloot around.

Today it’s pathetic. Most gym brahs are decked out in gym shark everything and yet completely DYEL. I would estimate the average brah today barely benches 1 plate

Is social media to blame?

From what I've noticed if you see someone on their phone between sets, they're weak and don't look like they lift. That's 95% of people at the gym. Also everyone over the age of 60 in the gym is essentially crippled.

They're trying to train like "powerlifters". Hogging a squat rack for 2 hours and only doing like 3 sets. Taking 10 minute rest periods even during warm ups
Best lifts:
Bench press: 315x5
Squat: 465x1
Strict press: 205x5
Deadlift: 405x13 (conv tap'n'go with straps)

Oh yeah the powerlifters in a commercial gym are some of the worst. At my gym they bring out these chairs that say "silver sneakers" on the back and sit forever between sets in the squat rack. They're not even strong.

I'm not a huge fan of Mark Rippetoe, but he went on a big rant against having powerlifters in your gym (from the perspective of a gym owner). He may have been onto something

He's right. I know about 10 years ago in my powerlifting days I was probably the worst guy at the gym lol.

Going to the gym is popular now

15_20 years ago you were considered a gym rat autist

Honestly, since women have become more interested in it, naturally guys flock

Bring in a few chicks who train glutes at a random time and within a week there will be 15+ dudes that all of sudden happen to be training at the same time.

I seen some guys put up some heavy squats and deadlifts, but they are fat fuk powerlifting type looking.

Like if obese was a weight category in powerlifting, they would be in it.

It's more like fat as in your face is eating itself.
