Things I’ve noticed since becoming a fully qualified manual driver in the UK

Since getting the mogger pink manual license and becoming a VW owner with my 1.2 litre Polo here things I’ve noticed driving on my own.

The saying ‘once you pass your test is when you really start learning how to drive’ is absolutely true.

I thought I was the dogs bollocks once I passed but in reality I was still a terrible driver, stalled few times on my first drive, hesitated massively at junctions/roundabouts and completely forget all my manoeuvres.

2 days later hit a sign post at petrol station while pulling in to get some gas (my only minor accident) there was no damage to my car though, not even a scratch srs.

Garage tried to charge me £1600/$2k for damages but told them to fook off insurance paid it off and I didn’t have to pay a penny, premiums won’t rise by much next year.

Anyway I’ve been out in some extremely tough and difficult situations on the road which the test can’t prepare you for but handled them safely, you have to constantly anticipate what other drivers are doing.

Even now I still park far away from everyone and walk, under no circumstances will you catch me in a busy car park as I get paranoid about being hit.

Also I feel like a mogger when driving to familiar places and will blast out music to feel good.

However if I drive somewhere I’ve never been I get mega anxious beforehand and view the routes on live maps but once in the car I’m fine.

I’m always safe and competent on main roads and follow the speed limit, not been in an actual accident apart from that minor incident above.

People get angry at you for following the speed limit and try overtake probs got 12 points on licence lol.

BMW and Nissan Juke drivers cause havoc on UK roads constantly trying to cut me up or squeeze threw tight gaps bunch of dickheads.

Pic of my 1.2 litre VW polo brought outright with cash and annual insurance outright. It has 80k miles and is 12 years old but looks fresh and runs sweet.

Love my car brahs

Driving with an instructor/examiner is completely different to driving alone independently lol.

That’s the point I was making, once your out on your own you don’t have someone holding your hand.

which would further prove the point made by the statement ‘once you pass your test is when you really start learning how to drive’, not make it further from the truth lol

I don't disagree that it's entirely different, maybe you just made a typo. just pointing it out

Is that a cultural phenomenon or just due to the north of England being poverty stricken?

I have a hatchback, but it's 16ft long. That's 4.8 meters.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I don’t even drive that much lol, mostly just use my car for gym, shopping, going to barbers etc and picking up free shags.

I don’t even drive to work as it’s pointless because the parking logistics are terrible in the city centre and heavily pedestrianised so it’s actually quicker to walk.

so much to unpack in this thread.

Ibby has turned something as trivial as driving into something extraordinary and rare.

Ibby is 30 and owning a 12 year old Polo appears to give him a deep sense of accomplishment.

Ibby you need to realign your entire outlook on life. even for up north, you have the entitlement of a gypsy

In the UK driving as a young man is a while having your own place is huge status boost, especially with how hard it is to get a license these days.

Even girls I speak to on hinge or IRL have asked if I drive.

it is a life affirming telling them I do and pulling out the pink license when a bouncer asks for my ID on a night out.

bruh I live on a street busier than this, most of our city roadways are as many lanes if not more. Our freeways dwarf yours both in size and traffic.

don't try to flex on this. this is the 405 that will have traffic speeds ranging from 5mph to 80mph depending on the time of day.
