485 bench from someone 500lbs+

Guy is borderline immobile

Is his bench high because he needs to move all that weight around all the time?

Why do people think fat automatically means high weight?

A 400lb fat dude that sits on the couch isn't benching 400lbs. He couldn't even bench 1 plate

Whenever some fat guy benches a lot of weight there's always a cheeky bugger making a comment like "congrats on the bodyweight bench, it's a big milestone!" This time it's no longer a smart ass comment.

Triggered much mane? Is that round man your BF?

Back in my younger, dumber, and ego lifting days most I ever tried was 275 and did a few reps, at a weight of ~170lbs and a 77" wingspan. I never really focused on it as its not really useful for most sports. But for probably the last 15 years, I've lowered the weight to around 200#, but do insanely slow lowering and pausing, perfect form, and with higher rep ranges (around 20 reps each set) because I care about my joints. The burn and pump from this is so much better.

So which is "better"?
275# @ 170lbs or 485# @ 500+lbs? I lifted 1/2 the weight he did, while weighing 1/3 of what he does. I lifted 1.6X my body-weight, while he lifted .97

Dude's joints are already trashed from his weight. Lifting heavy is the last thing that he should be doing.

Is it sorta cool to see that much weight lifted? Yeah. But its literally less than his body weight. Weight does help move weight. Does he do any other lift or just bench and eat?

They're fat like that because their bodies aren't evolved for American processed food right? Kind of like how the New World natives didn't have any immunity to smallpox.

They'd be skinny if they were isolated and uncontacted, right?

77" wingspan? How tall are you?

I’ll agree somewhat, but bench isn’t only chest. Fat people’s cores and legs are probably omega strong, which helps a lot with bench if you use them properly.

Why do you think lifting heavy is automatically bad for your joints? Id agree it can be higher risk for injury, and injury could cause joint issues. But not like heavy lifting automatically equals arthritis with proper form. Dudes form and technique looked pretty dialed in.

Tbh I'm not impressed by many benches under like 405 unless the person is really small. John haack benching 600 @ 210 in training is insane but Julius Maddox benching 796 is another level despite being a heavier body weight. Absolute strength isnt a 1 to 1 ratio to body weight…. Anybody can build a 275 bench with a couple years of training lol, 485 is absolutely better. Brian shaw 4x worlds strongest man 'only' benched like 500-550 at 440 and dude was an absolute freak. A lot of super heavyweight world record totals have been set with benches under 600 pounds.
I'm 33 not 51

6'3" 265lbs

1 rep max PRs
415 bench
545 squat (haven't squatted in years)
700x3 deadlift

Just over 6'. Bow legged, so I think I'm meant to be 6'2"+. But yes, I have really long arms. It was great for basketball etc (started dunking Junior year in games) but I hated having skinny arms as a teenager. That is partially what started me lifting. They have been >17" for years and look athletic, but on a shorter limbed guy 17s look so much larger.

But arm length definitely affects bench.

Fat people have a huge advantage on the bench press, the huge stomach means moving the weight maybe a 2-3'' plus eating a ton of food means they have a ton of muscle from all that excessive eating

Hard to believe you could bench 275 for reps at 6'1" 170 lbs. Also hard to believe you had 17" arms with those stats too.

I'll assume that is not your real age and you are younger. Believe me, elbows, shoulders, and knees will start to wear if you are lifting heavy for decades. Trust an older guy on this one. You will thank me some day. I got rid of all my nagging pains by changing how I worked out.

Again, who cares what "impresses" another dude in regards to absolute vs relative strength. Funny you barely have an impressive bench according to your signature. "Anyone who does less than me at all is weak". Come on dude.

And no, no way can the majority of dudes EVER bench 275 clean and pure, especially natty (which I've always been). More misc insanity. Genetically probably only 10% of people could and some people genetically can bench a ton at small sizes and not be overall strong. Every body is different. Anyway, I never really tried to bench a lot. Like I said, not as beneficial to sports as core and legs.
