I think a lot of mexicans go there and buy up a bunch of really old video games and consoles. When last gen consoles are super cheap they buy like 6 of them at a time and pass them around la familia

A lot of them keep afloat with the memberships they offer, and that’s how they make much of their revenue. Idk if that’s the case with GameStop though, so to OP’s point; very strange lol.

There’s no way they make enough to cover rent lol.

Would not be surprise if it’s a big time front

Because they did a pump of the stock price and then the company sold a bunch of extra shares at the top and crashed the price.

They basically diluted the shares of the dumbass shareholders to keep the company afloat.

Blows my mind how Mexicians spend so much money on fast food and video games when they barely earn anything.

Then they also just shut down Game Informer, the long running video game magazine that Gamestop has owned for over a decade.

Saving video game publications and the industry!

But what does that have to do with the actual storefront where they have to pay rent?

I have no idea. No one buys physical games any more, and Wal-Mart can sell you a console.

I drop by a mall Game Stop once every so often (North County Mall in Escondido for the SD crew, they've got good Korean food in the food court), and it's just sad. There's not even that many video games any more, it's just T shirts and funkos and high-margin trash like that.

Nothing. Once again he shows that he knows nothing in an area that he claims to be an expert in, and made a fortune in.

No, he's right. They did sell a bunch of stock near the top and dilute their shareholders.

They then use the extra cash to pay rent.

However they have also been closing a bunch of unprofitable stores. At this point I think it's a liquidation play, squeeze out every last penny from each store, shuttering them the moment they become unprofitable. Or that's how I'd play it anyway.

We still need video game stores, man. Not just online. Glad Hollywood lost a foothold with blockbuster, family video, and the rest of ‘em tho.

Video games are important.

They’ll probably make the stores they’ve got larger and more interesting.
