Sad chit. They see you mogging on the bench press and then feel the need to tell you how they used to be semi-pro in some sport and used to bench 450 but now they can't cause their shoulders or elbows or whatever. How often does this happen to you? Seems like it happens to me once a week.

kind of like when i watch a history documentary and it's from 20+ years ago, and realizing all the old people interviewed are now dead and it's a matter of time before it's us. Rip

A while back I was talking to an older dude at the gym about the strongest dude at the gym who could bench 500 lbs. The older dude was like 'if I didn't have any kids to take care of and wasn't afraid of injury I'd be able to get to a 500 lbs. bench too'. Wanted to bertstare and walk away but didn't want to hurt the old guy's feelings lol

Yeah, I remember back in my heyday benching 365 lbs. Those were the good old days before my shoulder and elbow pains caught up to me.

Nobody ever approaches me in the gym (srs)
If people are coming up to you and talking about their hey-day, you probably come across as approachable/likeable

They look and me and decide I'm not the person to have that conversation with. If they are stupid enough to do so anyway, they get shut down so hard that it's comical.

Feel at a certain age..maybe 55 people should just stay away from free weights & stick to the machines. They often just end up hurting themselves & as eludes in the OP, they shouldn’t be trying to keep up at a young mans ability.
