Old guys at the gym always talking about how much they used to lift

Sad chit. They see you mogging on the bench press and then feel the need to tell you how they used to be semi-pro in some sport and used to bench 450 but now they can't cause their shoulders or elbows or whatever. How often does this happen to you? Seems like it happens to me once a week.

kind of like when i watch a history documentary and it's from 20+ years ago, and realizing all the old people interviewed are now dead and it's a matter of time before it's us. Rip

Yeah it's pretty similar to a history documentary in the way that both are complete lies.

A while back I was talking to an older dude at the gym about the strongest dude at the gym who could bench 500 lbs. The older dude was like 'if I didn't have any kids to take care of and wasn't afraid of injury I'd be able to get to a 500 lbs. bench too'. Wanted to bertstare and walk away but didn't want to hurt the old guy's feelings lol

Yeah, I remember back in my heyday benching 365 lbs. Those were the good old days before my shoulder and elbow pains caught up to me.

Nobody ever approaches me in the gym (srs)

If people are coming up to you and talking about their hey-day, you probably come across as approachable/likeable
Best lifts:
Bench press: 315x5
Squat: 465x1
Strict press: 205x5
Deadlift: 405x13 (conv tap'n'go with straps)

I don't think I do. I have a caveman looking brow ridge that makes me look angry all the time. There was a dude benching next to me the other day that went across the gym several times to ask people to spot him but never asked me.

They look and me and decide I'm not the person to have that conversation with. If they are stupid enough to do so anyway, they get shut down so hard that it's comical.

You're lucky in that being an alcoholic, a juicer, and a schizophrenic, you probably won't make it to old age. You'll never have to suffer the shame of not being able to lift as much as you used to.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Feel at a certain age..maybe 55 people should just stay away from free weights & stick to the machines. They often just end up hurting themselves & as eludes in the OP, they shouldn’t be trying to keep up at a young mans ability.

And there you have your back in the day story, that you will one day randomly share with younger lifters.

I agree and it's fine but they should just leave the glory stories in the past. No cares if you used to bench 4 plates or lift the heaviest dumbells in the gym. It's always some fat old guy too. If you figured out how to lift when you were young why didn't you figure out how to diet?
