Anyone else fear an unexpected destructive cosmic event? srs

There's so much about the universe that scientist, astronomers and astrophysicists do not know or have no explanation for. This uncertainty makes me really think that at any moment something huge could happen that effects the Earth in a way that would make it uninhabitable.

1. The sun randomly becomes several degrees warmer or shoots a massive fireball into the Earth

2. Massive ghost asteroid that was undetectable until it was too late

3. Earth gets swallowed by a black hole

4. Dark matter becomes aggressively hostile

one of my best friends is an astrophysicist and he got drunk one night and said that a large meteor striking the earth is pretty much inevitable within the next few decades

Why worry about things that we can't control at all?
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Not really, because any of those things happening would be a quick, instant death for the entire world. No point in even stressing about it, you couldn't even escape if it happened.

Just get with your family and hold hands as the fireball envelopes you

Have you seen The Road with Viggo Mortensen?

It's that kind of scenario which scares the chit out of me. Something so bad happens it renders the Earth incapable of supporting life.
Back off, Warchild.

Odds are that death to all would be nearly instant depending on the event. So no. Also it'll be a mutually shared experience by all, so that takes less of a feeling for desperation IMO.

That said, other than unusually powerful solar flares messing up the ozone layers and/or wrecking our satellites and other technologies, nothing "feels" imminent. Everything "feels" slow as phark when it comes to astronomical activities, srs. Like hundreds of generations of humans to go before something major maybe.

The ice age began 2.6 million years ago, and only ended 11,000 years ago. Maybe we've got another 2 million years to go before there's another catastrophic event lol.

If it happens, you won't have long enough to think about it so I don't worry about it at all.

I sincerely hope that if anyone knows there is a massive asteroid coming they don't tell anyone, because it would just mean everyone starts killing each other in the time they have left.

BabyGooGooGaaGaa assured me that WWIII is right around the corner, so none of us will live long enough to see any of those things happen.

A big enough, but not too big, asteroid could plunge us into another ice age where the vast majority of the planet slowly starves to death.

I have my doubts that there are black holes or dark matter. If it might help one book about this issue ~

THE BIG BANG NEVER HAPPENED

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Far ranging and provocative, THE BIG BANG NEVER HAPPENED is more than a critique of one of the primary theories of astronomy – that the universe appeared out of nothingness in a single cataclysmic explosion ten to twenty billion years ago. Drawing on discoveries in particle physics and thermodynamics as well as on readings in history and philosophy, Eric J. Lerner confronts the values behind the Big Bang theory: the belief that mathematical formulae are superior to empirical observation; that the universe is finite and decaying; and that it could only come into being through some outside force. With inspiring boldness and scientific rigor, he offers a brilliantly orchestrated argument that generated explosive intellectual debate.

Uh…..no? Why worry about unlikely cataclysms that we have no control over?
