I say check out the S&W M&P series as well as the Springfield XD/XDM series as well. Both are pretty awesome.

I've had a full size 9 for quite a while now. Shaved the beaver tail off the grip because it was annoying, have the Apex tactical sear and striker block which improved the trigger so far beyond stock most are really surprised at how slick it feels. Light, crisp and accurate af. Reset isn't too noticeable but it's never bothered me because I know where it resets and have never had issues with follow up shots. Recoil feels smoother than my XDM 3.8 compact but the XDM feels worlds better in my hand.
