Strip away all labels of cop, civilian, black, and white skin.....you have a man with a gun, threatening the life of a man who is picking up trash...threatening him because he won't obey his every command. Literally just that...you won't obey me, so I will kill you.

That cop belongs in a cell, away from society. And if you defend that behavior, you belong in a zoo.
Well put man, I agree completely.

For the record I am TRUMP 2020 all the way and not a liberal, yet I just know -- wrong is wrong. This video was pretty clear as day to me that the cop was definitely in the wrong.

This could have been handled so much better. This is why it’s important to have great people skills and critical thinking skills. After he got the ID, the guy said “I’m not telling you where I live but I can buzz myself into the building.” At that point the officer should have let him do that. Then he could have spoken to other neighbors and determined if he lived there (although his access to the building shoulda been enough).

Disagree. I do think all cops should, at least, go through corrections before hitting the streets. This way, their first interaction with a disorderly, intoxicated, violent person is in a controlled environment and isn’t on the street with a gun.

School proves nothing other than the ability to be good at studying. This job field is all about experience, not university education.

I thank god that I have both, though.

Cops shouldn’t even be challenged like this in the first place.

You put a human being and antagonize them with that jive anti authoritarian energy some are gonna be less patient than others.

Aggressive minorities that act totally unlikable and intolerable to cops bring it upon themselves.

Strip away the badge and the roles and it’s just some hater ass ghetto retard who honestly needs to get his ass beat for yelling and cussing like a bitch.

If a guy cussed at me like that I wouldn’t allow it, why should a cop.

Brb come back off duty and beat his ass for calling him names.

Don’t drop f bombs on cops I’m pretty sure that’s somehow technically against the law

After reading through this entire thread and watching the entire video, I'm actually amazed at some of you.

I like cops more than most and will typically comply but in this scenario, idk how you can say anything other than the cop was being ridiculous. Our perception of this situation has nothing to do with race, and nothing to do with politics. Boil it down to basics, and it comes down to one man stopping another for no justifiable reason, attempting to gather his information, and then attempting to detain him again for no justifiable reason. All it takes is an ounce of critical thinking to figure out this guy wasn't a criminal.

What criminal hands over his school ID to a cop who is stopping him? What criminal sits down for a bit before getting fed up that he's being harassed? What criminal offers to walk him into the building? What criminal, when being defiant and continuing about his business, sticks around the same building he's being questioned about? What criminal goes to talk to one of the residents INSIDE the building as some form of backup/verification to the situation? Under the accusation that he does not belong there, despite him claiming he lived there, none of this makes any sense for criminal activity. Yet the officer continues to drill him, calls in backup under the pretense the guy is holding a "weapon".

When the other cops show up, they have their weapons drawn, justifiably so. Once they start to understand what is happening, the guy yells and says he won't drop his garbage picker until they holster their weapons, and every single officer holsters their weapons except the initial cop who instigated the situation. This alone should tell you that the first cop was in the wrong.

LMAO imagine having public record of you claiming you are scared for your life when you are armed with a taser, a firearm, and pepper spray against a guy who is holding tools to collect trash. You have several distance weapons and are standing at a distance, while the other guy does not. Even the internal investigation into the incidence states that the officer had no reasonable grounds to detain the student, which should further tell you just how deep in the wrong this cop is.

A little bit of sense goes a long way.

strip away the badge and the roles and it's some dude needlessly questioning a seemingly law abiding citizen over basically nothing. A random stranger wouldn't cuss at you like that unless you instigated it, upon which you would have to allow it or cuss back, because the moment you do anything further to inhibit said cussing, you are in the wrong for assaulting the guy. People can say whatever they like, and you can react however they like, but some actions net greater consequences

No reason?

He thought he was loitering or trespassing and when asked about where he lives looked at the address on the side of the building like as if he was pulling a fast one and then when asked for apt number he wouldn’t comply.

By that time, the reason for being there or not no longer mattered because he seemed like a shady liar who may or may not be trespassing

Yeah he thinks because he’s picking up trash, like all of a sudden it’s a free pass to go nuts.

That’s when minorities do themselves in the most is when there is a hint of doing something right in there.

Like Trayvon thinking because he wasn’t doing something wrong and someone made the mistake of trying to approach them it’s a lease for all hell to break loose.

When reasonable people wouldn’t mind.

So what if he was picking up trash? Big whoop. Obviously the dude was an ass wipe.

Just cuz you’re picking up trash doesn’t make you Jesus all of a sudden.

And just because he’s a minority picking up garbage doesn’t mean now nobody can ever make the mistake of approaching him just because he thinks minorities get profiled more often.

None of that matters except the fact he cussed and blew up when asked to confirm he lives there.

And it also seems the cop initially got suspicious because he saw him sitting somewhere.

At which point I assume he got up and acted busy all of a sudden.

Maybe he just moved in and hasn't memorized his address yet.

Most people loitering are not picking up trash. Most people standing on sidewalks are not considered "trespassers", since sidewalks are public property maintained by the city, not the person who owns the land adjacent to them.

Even if he was loitering, he has plenty of right to loiter around his place of residence, and his offer to buzz himself into the building should have been taken up by the officer, which would have quickly dispelled the situation.

Like you said, (Despite it being untrue) cops are trained and held in higher regard than regular citizens, so he should know how to de-escalate the situation or figure out how to run the investigation properly, you can't expect every stop with a citizen to be an ideal encounter.

Whether he seemed like a shady liar or not, the officer could have taken very simple steps to figure out whether the dude was "trespassing" or not. As far as I know, no one reported the dude, the officer took it upon himself to start this situation. And again...maybe the student didn't want the officer to know where he lived. For example, like you mentioned above, maybe the officer would have it out for him specifically and show up at his place off duty to "beat his ass for calling him names"

It's funny how you place all the blame on the student. Again, the cop is the authority figure, and thus responsible for handling the situation. Not the citizen. I'm by no means saying the citizen handled it in the best way, but he was well within his rights to be upset and act as he did. He did nothing legally wrong.

Trayvon Martin wasn't doing anything wrong initially...until he ran from Zimmerman (suspicious), then circled back to literally jump on Zimmerman and attack him (assault). SO what happened with him was deserved. Did you ever read the police report for that case? That's a completely different scenario and has no bearing or comparison to this one.

Nowhere did I say a minority picking up garbage means nobody can approach him. You're focusing on one question I asked out of a bunch. ALone, sure I can see how it would be suspicious. As a collective sequence of events, it does not throw up any red flags whatsoever based on what transpired.

He offered to buzz himself into the complex. How does that leave reasonable doubt he lives there, or does not "belong", like the officer claimed?

Like I said. Some basic common sense and critical thinking goes a long way. Are you just going to ignore the fact that the internal investigation also decided the cop was in the wrong and escalated the situation needlessly?

No, but officers should not be allowed to walk up to random people and demand papers. That's never been a part of American ideology. That's some bullchit European chit

What exactly was the guy in the video doing that was against the law? Resisting arrest doesn't count, what law was he breaking to get arrested in the first place?

If you want a police state so badly, why don't you move to North Korea and live happily ever after watching some guy fuk your wife while you suk his balls because he's wearing a badge on his shirt.

Also, next time you call people dumb, make sure you use the appropriate form of the word "whether." I won't judge you though, I can tell by your posts that you did not receive an education.

he thought he was trespassing on private property and there's no trespassing laws/signs there...

remember he first saw him sitting on a patio behind the building and only got up when he started the footage.

probably was something suspicious off camera

So its like if youre on the sidewalk its different but he started off sitting on a random patio which probably wasn't his residence.

the rest escalated due to the suspiciousness

I mean at some point he literally got mad saying "how am I supposed to have something that has my address??"

uhhhh...... okk.......

U a poosi bro. Aint no 2 ways about it. Spread your cheeks and let any random guy with a badge to stick in you.

Cause he might think youre trespassing.

You clearly want to live in a police state. Move to some commi country and lick as many police azzholes as you can. Here, in America, we got some self respect. We don't believe in gagging on a cop's dikk jus cause he says so

well look at how it starts, he's filming him already standing there picking stuff up, when he talks to him he says he noticed him on a patio and that theres trespassing.

so obviously we dont have the full footage but people are going off like as if that approach we saw was the whole context. It wasnt. obviously the officer saw him earlier sitting somewhere.

Thats like a thief trying to steal a car in a parking lot, and a cop goes up to him and says what are you doing? and he says I locked my keys in my car.... but hes obviously trying to steal the car. So since he claimed it was his car the cop should just leave and let it get stolen right?

And then you saying we shouldn't ID people... Ok that would make police absolutely powerless to serve and do their job.

news flash: criminals exist and are active out there.

bold of you to call anyone dumb when you can't form a coherent and complete response to most if not any of these posts that disagree with your beliefs. I'm still waiting on a response to my replies to you...

It's technically against the law to drop an f-bomb on a cop? And you think the rest of us are the dumb ones? My god lol
