2nded

I built my first AR just under 20 years ago and put a Rock River 2 stage in it. It's been good. Decent feel and reliable. I got the same advice as posted above on my more recent builds and have 2 of the Larue ***-2s triggers. They are very good triggers. For my uses I can't see spending more.

ETA: I was wondering why you bolded the m. Can't figure out why that's censored.

Used to clean guns every time. Rarely clean them now depending on gun.

Pistols - Add lube if it looks dry. I'll clean it when I get malfunctions
ARs - See above
Bolt actions - If accuracy goes south.
Rimfire - I clean the bore when accuracy drops, but I can go a long time between cleanings. I clean the chamber and bolt face more frequently because otherwise I have more feeding issues

Generally give a quick wipe down to the exterior after a range session.

I started using Hoppes M-Pro 7 for cleaning and love it. Zero odor and does the job very well.

https://www.amazon.com/Hoppes-M-Pro-.../dp/B00162PQTG

I just use Slip 200 EWL for lube afterwards.

I'm following this too since I want to know whats going to happen with my pistol.
If it will be considered as an SBR later on, then I'd rather make it a real SBR by changing to stock but I'm still hoping it doesn't pass to become a law.

Will check this out. I was at an outdoor range yesterday and someone let me try their trigger, I think its a geissele trigger and asking me to pull until I feel resistance before the 2nd stage. I thought I was being light on it and my finger pull through the end without any effort. Thats when I realize how bad my stock trigger is lol.

Mine feels like I'm dragging it through a long take-up until the breakpoint and will start creeping in until it fires.

No one needs a barrel less than 16”. Only special operators should have access to SBR’s. The reduced velocity of the round makes them too deadly as they bounce around in the body instead of exiting straight through.

What's your go-to cleaning package for both pistol (Glock 19 for ex) and also for your AR pistol or SBR (556/300blk)?
Boresnake, oil, go.

Or possibly field strip, wipe down with CLP rag, boresnake, oil, go. Few minutes.

Might skip entirely for AR, but will do if it's a carry gun.

SBR is always suppressed so I clean it every time

It's more than the list, it's the $200, the waiting, and the hoops and red tape of NFA. If you want anybody else to be able to use it, literally even your spouse for home defense if you aren't there, without violating the law, you need to do it as a trust and have them to the steps to also be on the trust, and selling is a huge PITA compared to a regular title 1 firearm. Also need prior written authorization to cross state lines with it. And have to notify ATF in writing if you move

I had a KDX 250 in high school and used their 2-stroke oil because it was supposed to be the best.

There are so many gun lubes out there. I bought slip2000 the last time I ran out and one container lasts me a lot of years.

All the carbon blowback from the can makes the BCG extra greasy so you don’t need to lube it as much tbh. When it heats up it gets slick

I'm convinced if you own a gun, you're on a list. Unless you've only done private sale with no background check and not posted gun stuff on social media. They might not know exactly what you have, but that doesn't matter, imo. Hell even credit card companies are tracking gun store purchases now.

With how difficult it is to get a can, how do they end up on the black market?

It's like literally impossible to get one legally

That's definitely plausible , especially with firearms having serial numbers and those serial numbers i believe are kept as records of who purchased them by the firearm company

Every time I go to Portland it gets significantly worse. What an absolute ****hole of a city. Disgusting as ****.

Not sure if I'll rattle can my 11.5 before the weekend or next week, but will be shooting this weekend either way. Also came back and my battle belt was delivered, set it up this morning. I'm sure I'll make minor changes once I start running it since this is a new concept for me, but so far it feels solid and I'm digging it.

If anyone running a belt wants to share a pic I'd appreciate it. Always like to see what others are doing to try different things out myself, especially when it comes to a piece of gear I'm unfamiliar with.

Here's mine currently set up. I wanted to keep it quite minimal and we'll see how we go from here.

Blue Alpha Belt
Esstac double pistol mag pouch
Esstac single AR mag pouch
Mesh water bottle pouch
Safariland holster for G19
CAT holder

I have played around with the idea of moving my IFAK to the belt. Currently, I have an SS SACK dangler as my IFAK on my chest rig. I've considered getting a dump pouch as well but never found the need for one prior so I'm a little hesitant to get something when a need for it never previously existed.

Cleaning firearms, most people overdo it or miss the point - in addition to just cleaning, you should be inspecting components for wear to determine if you need to replace them. In general, I'll clean "go-to" guns (basically the one I'm grabbing if ______) for longer-term storage or intervals between training. Example…

Just took a 2 day rifle class. Didn't clean after day 1, just added some oil. After the class it was pretty dirty, so I did a more detailed clean (all internal parts cleaned and checked for wear, barrel snaked several times).

Today I shot a box of ammo through my carry gun. No major cleaning on it, just sprayed some rem oil on key parts and wiped the feed ramp. Every couple hundred I'll disassemble.

Good point about inspection. Each gun is a little different from the next. Different ammos can create different dirtiness. Each gun can wear uniquely. Noting such idiosyncrasies can help with anticipating needed maintenance.

So what causes gun jams?

Lack of cleaning?

low quality ammo?

When your life is on the line and you need defense the last thing you want is a FTF or FTE, how do we guarantee your gun won't jam when it's critical?
