This new sprint format is dogchit. I'm with Max, just scrap the whole thing.

agreed. Kind of makes the whole weekend feel weird.

Perez winning another street circuit this weekend?

I bet him to take the sprint, and he delivered.

I also bet him to win quali, he didn't.

Tomorrow I bet straight win for Leclerc, Alonso (whoops), and Perez. The total bet is 2.5:1 on my money.

Sprint format is so dumb. It's puts way too much risk out there to affect the championship as a whole, and doesn't add anything more than satiate the dumb instant gratification of the American audience that Liberty is pushing hard to grab.

Ship it!

Surprisingly dull race. Expected insanity - at least one red flag

Looks like we're back to cars not being able to closely follow each other anymore which is a shame. Its not as bad as pre-2022 but the trend is clear. At Jeddah, Leclerc was talking about how he, despite having more pace, couldn't get closer than 1sec to Sainz due to turbulence. It makes street tracks a bit of a snooze as virtually no-one can get close enough to pass unless there is a really big speed differential. The sprint weekend was a bust for me, not a fan. I prefer the traditional 3 x free practice sessions and a Qualy for Fri/Sat.

Kinda underwhelming season in general because Red Bull is just so dominant.

I think the lack of practice is hurting the closer racings. Teams can't collect the data for car set ups to handle that turbulent air.

Its a real shame cause with such a long break I thought it was going to be a much much more competitive weekend.

Happy to see Ferrari being competitive. Making the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for constructors championship a bit more interesting if they can keep it up as I think they will.

Wasn't expecting so many poorly maintained cars with how much of a break they had.

Miami this weekend.

Is this going to be a decent track for Aston Martin? Seems like the corners will suit them.

Hopefully Miami is better than Baku, which was boring AF. Disappointing, usually Baku provides insanity.

Kinda forgot what this track is like since it's only been on the calendar since last year. I do distinctly remember some fake pool with a yacht which was hilarious.

Horrible.

You gotta give it to the F1TV app, it's incredible. in the USA it's $10/mn and I have NOTHING to fault about it. Great everything.

Sprint weekends are dumb though, and I don't see how it's good for this "budget cap" they keep going on and on about.

mind=blown.

You might be right..... That would totally play into the way entertainment is evolving. (eliminating the longer race)

the weekend wouldn't be chaotic if the real race was eliminated, and the sprint race became the standard "race".

Say you do 1 practice, 1 quali, then a sprint race.... That's it.

EDIT: moto gp races are about 45 minutes, so it's not like someone hasn't successfully hosted short races only.

Honestly, I wouldn't even be against it if the 45 minute races were packed with overtaking, etc (like moto gp)

Money, if they think they can make more money doing it like this they won't hesitate for a second. The fact that they go from 4 to 6 to 10 sprint weekends in a season should tell you something.

The only way they're cutting down 5 sessions to 3 is if they can add something like 5 more races to the calendar. Which, to be fair, I think they'd very much like to do. If they can cut the race weekends down by 1 day they might be able to get the drivers and teams on board with that plan.

Totally. They could add 5 races to the USA alone. The tracks are already here.

Man, when there was about 5-6 mins left of Q3 and everyone pitted, I thought "just get Max out now to get a time on the board....just in case something happens" but they didn't and there ya go.

Tough track to overtake on, let's see what Max can do tomorrow.

Literally everything is going well for him luck wise. Verstappen who started from the back once, Verstappen who lost his win last week due to a safety car (still feels like it was partially Red Bull's fault and not just bad luck) and now again.

At the end best case scenario he'll probably be tied after tomorrow.

Although I think we might see rain tomorrow? If so then it's gonna be a sick race. People are gonna end up hitting the wall often.

Im surprised with how many offs people were having even in practice, that RB didn't send Max out.

"lets have a competitive Q3"

-----------------

If I were to change the format of the race weekend I think the most extreme thing would be to drop the race length to around 1hr in time....

I get that they do it for money but, when you have bad reviews like they did, you're just asking for a massive drop in viewership soon.

I wouldn't change the the racing time, just some of the rules to make it more interesting. Bring back refueling and give completely free tyre choice. This way some teams could do a zero stopper while others might think stopping 3 times and refueling the car is the better option. We'll see a lot more diverse strategies, thus more actions. And it'll be easier to overtake cuz cars with different weights will be on track at the same time.

^^ spot on.

Formula 1 was fine until they started meddling with it because of the "environment" and trying to reduce costs.

This is supposed to be the pinnacle of racing but little by little they've hampered the teams and in consequence the spectacle.

I doubt it will get better, only worse. This new crowd the netflix show has brought in, that's who they want to appeal to now. And we know the newer generations have short attention spans, hence why they're pushing the sprint races.
There is but one path....we kill them all.
