i was feeling good about this date with kimm4. i mean, she had a unique name and a smile that could melt butter, so i figured i’d bring my a-game. i showed up at the bowling alley in what i thought was the coolest outfit ever—a suit, but with a little secret. i had my spiderman costume underneath, just in case, you know, i needed to save the day or impress a girl.

when i saw her, my brain decided to hit me with a wave of anxiety, which naturally meant it was time for some jokes.

“knock knock,” i started.

kimm4 tilted her head slightly, “who’s there?”

“orange.”

“orange who?”

“orange you glad i didn’t bring a banana?” i said, forcing a laugh at the end. she smiled, that polite kind of smile where her lips curled up, but her eyes darted away as if looking for an exit sign.

i thought, okay, not the best start, but i could recover. so, i tried again.

“knock knock.”

she looked at me with an expression that said, “seriously?” but answered anyway, “who’s there?”

“lettuce.”

“lettuce who?”

“lettuce have a good time tonight!” i said, trying to make it sound cool, but it came out more like i was a kid asking for extra dessert. she chuckled softly, again with that same distant look in her eyes, as if she was imagining a different date—one that didn’t involve vegetable puns.

i started to panic internally, so i thought it was time to pull out the big guns. i mean, who wouldn’t be impressed by spiderman, right? i’d spent hours developing real spiderman webs, well, they weren’t exactly real, but they were sticky enough to annoy my neighbors and almost got me banned from the library.

so, mid-bowling game, i decided it was time. with the flair of a magician revealing his final trick, i ripped off my suit, revealing the spiderman costume underneath.

“check this out!” i shouted, as i launched myself into the air, swinging from lane to lane with my homemade webs. i felt like a superhero—well, a superhero whose webs kept sticking to random objects and causing a bit of chaos.

as i swung past kimm4, i gave her a wink, expecting her to be in awe. but instead, she was just sitting there, wide-eyed, looking less impressed and more like she was trying to figure out how to escape without causing a scene.

i landed, dusted myself off, and looked at her, waiting for the applause. but kimm4 just gave me that same polite smile, now mixed with a bit of pity.

“so, you like superheroes?” she asked, trying to make conversation.

“yeah!” i said, too eagerly, “i mean, who wouldn’t want to be spiderman?”

“uh, right,” she said, nodding slowly, “but, maybe next time, we could just, you know, bowl?”

it was at that moment i realized that no amount of webs or superhero antics could save this date. kimm4 might’ve appreciated the effort, but she probably just wanted a normal evening—no knock-knock jokes, no spiderman stunts, just a guy who could bowl without trying to swing from the ceiling.

as i walked her to her car, she gave me a hug, the kind that says, “thanks for trying, but let’s never do this again.” i watched her drive away, feeling like the biggest loser in the world, but at least i had my spiderman costume to keep me company.

Pretty eventful week on misc

Why don’t they just change the forum software?

We have been asking for an upgrade to vBulletin 6, and we've even offered to help pay for it collectively.

A couple of Mods have said the integration with Bodyspace is custom and difficult, which is why the forum stays the way it is.

I've also heard that the forum is so old that the database of old threads is huge and hard to work with, especially the search function. They may have to re-set everything and delete 20+ years of threads.

Turn it off and turn it back on again
