Love hearing stuff like this
"Jim Trotter
✔
@JimTrotter_NFL
49ers players were so impressed with Jimmy Garoppolo yesterday after their 15-14 win at Chicago that wide receiver Marquise Goodwin - with other players cheering - offered to get up and give Garoppolo his first-row seat on the team bus when Garoppolo boarded it. #49ers"
Shows how quickly guys gravitate to a guy they see can lead the team. It's funny because you could tell the team was very much behind Beathard since he was with them the whole season and it almost felt like they felt Jimmy was a bit of an outsider. Now it's very clear to them he's legit and it's great to see.
It may hurt our chances to trade down and pick up an extra 2nd round pick I think we really need but honestly at this point I'm cool with us winning as many as we can though if I'm being realistic I think Houston is the only game we will win but never know.

I'm also excited that the niners are going to be able to attract talented FA's that want to play with a good qb and competent offense. Hopefully we get some good young pieces next season. I'm eyeing Allen Robinson for our stud receiver. He would fit into the Julio Jones role perfectly.

Excited to watch niner football again. Funny what a legit QB can do to a team.
Still don't want to get too ga ga for Jimmy Ga but he was impressive. Houston secondary isn't as good but their pass rush is better than the Bears so we'll get to see how Jimmy does. The last 3 games will be really good barometers for what he can do, especially the Jags game.
At this point I don't mind if we win games just because it shows growth and builds a winning culture moving forward with Jimmy at QB. Having said that it certainly would still be nice to get an early pick and try to move down to pick up some more draft capital. The other benefit of finish close to the top is the likelihood of Shanahan and our staff coaching at the Senior bowl….some really good prospects going to be there and I'd love to see our guys get a first hand look at them.
As far as the draft goes it's amazing what having a QB in place gives you as far as flexibility. There are several players I'm still digging in a big way and there are very few who I think i'd be disappointed by with our first round pick.
If we trade down I think that's the best. Not only in terms of giving us value for our pick but more importantly recouping a higher 2nd round draft pick after the trade for Jimmy.
Any of these guys in the first I'd be very happy with no particular order - Calvin Ridley, Quenton Nelson, Bradley Chubb, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Roquan Smith
I'd be ok with Saquon Barkely being the pick because he's a stud…but i'd rather address RB later because the RB depth in this draft is awesome. Ronald Jones or Rashaad Penny in the 2nd or 3rd would be awesome for Kyle's scheme.

Just glad this team is moving forward. Actually can enjoy watching the team, some bright spots, Jimmy is great to watch. I actually have an interest in the team again after three years of ****ery. Early this year was dismal too but they are hanging in there and making progress.
Cant wait til we get healthy, have another draft and FA, and Jimmy gets a full camp with this O and time to build chemistry with the rest of the O. Very excited for next year.
I think we can beat Titans at levis this upcoming week. Looking forward to watching. Go Niners!

Losing a top pick seems like it sucks now but it could be better in the long run. If Jimmy is winning games and playing well and proving to be a franchise qb its well worth it. In the long run trading a 2nd round pick for a franchise qb is well worth. Its still too early to tell but it brings a lot of hope and a good chance of turning the team around. If Jimmy G proves to be a top qb what does that do to bellichick's legacy? Bellichick is Still legendary but he has a reputation of being really good on trades and getting fleeced this bad would tarnish it.

Sure he's talented but you can tell how much he has brought to our team not only physically but mentally as well. I think it's cool they gave him up for a 2nd round pick cause it's great for us and doesn't do anything to tarnish their legacy at all, considering all the other possible things that could tarnish it (cheating), not that I think that does either I think they are the best in the business in this era. I doubt he was concerned with giving up Jimmy and probably doesn't care much about post Brady Pats like blinkers said. If Brady plays a couple more years I would think Bill leaves when Brady hangs em up.

Recently if anything I think Belichick's ego has been getting the better off him(then again the results of the field say he's not exactly wrong) but Chandler Jones trade was all in Arizona's favor. Jamie Collins in Cleveland's.
I firmly believe Belichick and the Pats did not want to let Jimmy go. Garoppolo's value was probably at its peak during the draft. A draft that I thought was perfect for the Pats and their needs on defense but they didn't budge. They wanted him to stick around but you can't bench Brady when he's playing like he has even at his age. So they had to make a choice…let Jimmy walk for nothing but a possible comp pick or move him for a high 2nd round pick to a team you play probably only once every 4 years.
I'm good with us winning as many games as possible now because that would inspire huge confidence heading into next season. However I don't see us getting by Jags and Rams at this point. We may be able to beat Tennessee on Sunday just because Mariota has been dishing out turnovers like they're xmas presents but they're no cake walk either. The rest of our schedule is an 8-5 team and 2 9-4 teams, certainly not easy way to finish things off.
The biggest downside to losing a top 2 pick though is the ability to trade down for a chitload of picks. Giants probably secured #2 overall but if we had that pick even if Cleveland grabbed their choice of the QB that #2 spot would be very valuable. I hope wherever we wind up we still make the move down(not too far) and pick up a high 2nd rounder we lost for Jimmy.
I think right now we're picking 4th and while I like a lot of players with our first pick I'm not sure any of them are really good bang for the buck at that spot….the one guy who is I hope we don't draft just because I think the RB talent in this class is tremendous.

Can we talk about how bad Dontae Johnson has become? Teams are literally going after him and its sad. Sometimes he is in good position and its just a good throw/catch but most of the time he just sucks.
Its amazing how much better the online is playing in terms of pass protection now that lord Jimmy is playing. Jimmy is still getting hit but he pulls the trigger fast when he sees someone coming. Still think OL will be our biggest priority on the offseason. Having a QB sure does impact a lot of things.
I firmly believe Eli Harold has become so invisible the opposing oline don't even see him anymore. I swear every sack he has got so far he has come in untouched. Cant wait till they cut this scrub.

Also agree about Dontae, he's not awful but he shouldn't be starting. Refs weren't kind to him and Hopkins is just a monster with some of those catches but no doubt we have to improve at corner but the secondary would be better as a whole if we found some consistent pass rush. Not going to lie I'm a bit disappointed by how Sully has looked rushing the passer this year but I think the coaches are partly to blame moving him around too much and playing him at positions he's not that familiar with. Having said that I expect a HUGE leap from him coming into next season as he uses the offseason to learn and practice what he needs to for next year. I think having him put on a few lbs and putting him at 3T and moving Buckner to the outside while adding a legit pass rush threat at LEO would be a huge step for our D and have a trickle down effect for the defense as a unit.
And the OL still needs a lot of help. I think our whole interior needs to be gutted. If Tomlinson, Kilgore or Fusco are starting next year then we ****ed up, simple as that.
Ryan Jensen is a guy I really want in free agency. Don't trust Garnett to come back and really take over one of the guard spots but hoping for the best. Draft has great guard prospects and I think we draft at least two. I really like Frank Ragnow if he can be had in the 3rd round as a G/C depth and possible starter.

1. the best OLineman is the QB… Setting the protection right, not staring down the receiver and getting rid of the ball quick can make any OL look great.

2. I think BB looked so annoyed cause he knew he had a franchise QB in Jimmy; so much so that he "settle" for a second round pick cause he didn't want to get burn down the road with any other team in the same conference… he could have gotten a ton more from Cleveland, NYJ, Denver, etc…
3. Glad to see the 49ers win again

It’s nice going into the offseason knowing we have our franchise QB and a legit coach. Those are the two most important things for a successful team.
With that being said, we have a bunch of holes on the roster and these are my rankings of the importance we need to place on each position heading into the offseason:
1. Interior lineman.
We have solid tackles, but the interior of that line is atrocious.
Andrew Norwell is an UFA in 2018, 26 years old and rates highly on PFF. He should be a target for Lynch. Other than that FA doesn’t look great, probably look towards 2nd and 3rd round for some pieces.
2. Corner
Wouldn’t mind a Brent Grimes signing. Solid veteran player. Not as good as he used to be but he’s better than what we have. Feel the same about Trumaine Johnson, although he’d probably be more expensive, but also younger. Malcolm Butler would also be an upgrade for us.
3. Playmaker on offense
Kinda lumping this together but I feel it’s warranted. This offense has no playmakers. I like Hyde but he’s not necessarily an explosive guy that can score long touchdowns. Garçon is good but he’s a possession receiver and Goodwin is more of a 3rd receiver. Tight ends leave a lot to be desired. Although Kittle has impressed me with his athleticism.
My #1 guy is Allen Robinson. He’s a beast and just needs a decent QB to really show his potential as one of the best receivers in football. Would be happy with Calvin Ridley from Alabama or even a trade for someone like Devante Parker. Sammy Watkins is interesting. I really don’t want to spend a top pick on Saquan but I wouldn’t be upset with him as our lead back. I haven’t given up on Joe Williams and we could always find a big play back in the mid-rounds. They’re always there.
We still need some more pieces after that. We need a stud pass rusher but those are hard to find.
This is the most excited I’ve been about the 49ers since the Harbaugh days.

Really happy that Garoppolo is gonna be the 49ers' quarterback going forward. But I'm also kind of sad to see Beathard kind of being left in the dust considering how much punishment he took for the team. Plus he got us our first win of the season. But at least the 49ers have a backup qb that a few other teams in the league would probably love to have.

With that being said, we have a bunch of holes on the roster and these are my rankings of the importance we need to place on each position heading into the offseason:
1. Interior lineman.

I think this draft is great for us to improve the interior. Really like Frank Ragnow as G and center depth. Quenton Nelson is a stud but I'd rather we address that position with someone like Ragnow.
I like Malcolm Butler but don't want to spend a ton of a corner who may struggle in this scheme. I'd like to see us do some bargain shopping there and hope we get lucky. Morris Claiborne is someone I'd like to check out.
Would love Robinson but don't see Jags letting him go. They still have plenty of cap space. He or Davonte Adams(if GB let's him go) would be nice.
Sucky thing there isn't an elite pass rusher to be had in this class unless we get lucky. I do like Chubb and Landry but not sure they'll be the pick.
Still need help at lb outside of Foster. Lots of options. At RB I'd love for us to get Rashaad Penny or Ronald Jones. I think they'd be perfect fits for this scheme.

Ryan Jensen from Baltimore is on my FA wish list. Vet center helps big time and he's a mean mofo who may be athletic enough to do well in our scheme.

Also I don’t think he wants to come back. There’s that clip of him at practice annoyed by Bortles. And I watched him a lot last year (had him in fantasy) and I could just tell he hated Bortles. Too many passes that weren’t catchable when all Bortles had to do was give him a chance and he’d come down with them.
I truly think this will be a nice destination for offensive free agents. Shanahan offense, Jimmy G, a lot of opportunity to start and to be the guy, San Francisco and we’ll have the money they’ll be asking for.

Honestly outside of Calvin Ridley I'm not super excited for this WR class. That's not to say there isn't talent. Courtland Sutton can prove to be a stud and I still think Christian Kirk is a serious talent totally held back by his QBs and Anthony Miller could be a nice find for some team but this certainly isn't a class that has a Julio Jones or AJ Green type but those guys are rare.
One kid I wouldn't mind us looking at on day 3 is Jester Weah out of Pitt. Big body guy who may be a better pro than college player.

Don't like hearing rumblings about the coaches being annoyed with Trent Brown missing the game last week. Sounds like he may be milking the shoulder injury a bit. It's always a tough call….at what point can someone else feel like you can "tough it out" and at what point it's a legit reason to miss the games?
Hopefully Trent isn't picking his shots on when he's healthy enough. Going up against the Seahawks and Jadeveon Clowney certainly would be a tougher ask than going against Chicago's pass rush. Tennessee has been dominating as pass rushers lately so it will be curious to see if he suits up and certainly the Jags are dominant across the board so we'll see what happens.
Definitely didn't want to think we have more holes on the OL than we already identified at the guard spots and center.

Well maybe he was legit because they're shutting him down for labrum surgery. Not going to make things easy for Jimmy in the last 3 weeks…hopefully he doesn't get killed out there.
Also hurting at corner again. Both Witherspoon and Mabin(who we all know so well) are legit questionable for the game. Good thing is I still think Titans will try to mainly go with their running game against us but it's not going to be easy on defense. Hopefully the OL can play well enough without Trent out there to let Jimmy do some good things.

Fuuuuuuuuuark!!! So freaking happy we found our savior! Jimmy G is the man! Ok, fangirl off, lol. Seriously, so looking forward to the draft to see what Lynch and Shanny can do to help Jimmy on the offensive side of the ball.

Jimmy’s biggest test is coming up this weekend. Jags D is on another level. If he can keep playing well then any reservations about him should go out the window.
And honestly with the lack of talent by our OL, the talent of the Jags D…even if Jimmy doesn’t play well then it won’t bother me much because every QB has off games. Jimmy is still not fully comfortable in this offense and the talent around him just can’t compete with the Jags.
