I haven't been keeping up with the ATF's rulings on these. Got cliffs? If we already have them can we keep them or is it going to be a all out ban, possession is a felony or something dumb as chit?

Thanks

All I have are my two pistols and my two AR's, and I'm moving to a second floor apartment in another town. Serious question, should I buy a narrow safe big enough to hold 2-4 rifles and a top shelf for pistols, or am I just better off hiding stuff under furniture and drawers? Unfortunately I can't carry or have the space to get a nice safe up to my apartment. I've seen 62lb+ safes online that are inexpensive yet I can carry up to my apartment. Of course if I ever get robbed, some meth head could carry it down the stairs too. Honestly I don't think it's worth the effort as I live alone, so it's not like I have kids to worry about getting ahold of them.

Small thing: Robbery requires that you be present. Threat or use of force is a necessary component. I think you mean burglarized.

Here are the two most relevant factors to actually protecting firearms in typical commercial RSC's (residential security containers) (what we often call a "safe")

1. Nobody knows it's there. They don't know there is a safe/box/RSC, they don't know where such a thing would be, they don't know there are gun s to steal, they aren't found easily upon entry. This means visitors don't see any of this, no repairmen, no friends, no acquaintances, nobody, loose lips sink ships

2. A monitored alarm set consistently that will go off, loudly, signalling to any thief or thieves that, even though residential alarm response times are low (or maybe zero), there is a decent chance somebody is coming. Police, security, you if you got a notification like many do (not that you should do that, actually), which means they can't meander around lazily looking everywhere

After that comes location of the container, preferably other than hidden nobody knows about, also in as tight of a spot as possible, like an interior closet corner, so there is minimal room to swing tools or use longer leverage tools.

Most RSC's can be broken into in 5-15 minutes with a screwdriver and a crow bar, forget about it with a sledge/ax or cordless angle grinder/etc.

Even a light safe will be quite heavy with guns and say a few dumbells in it. You can make it impossible for someone to carry. A blink camera from amazon is cheap and will alert you if anyone breaks in. No subscription needed with Amazon, unlike with stupid ring cameras.

Got a Ring as a present for Christmas. Was great the first month until the recorded videos stopped working. Did some googling, WTF, how dumb. I still haven’t paid it so it’s basically an annoying app, I need to shut off notifications.

In regards to the safe. Weight it down is a good idea, ideally with ammo Put it in a closet, cover it to look natural, bolt it or screw it if you can. I would much rather have it in a safe than under a bed. Not only for theft but also liability. It’s a crazy world these days. If something happened you can prove you did what you could to keep it out of others hands.

Supposed to get close to 40 with sun here tomorrow. We had rain earlier this week and there was some flooding from rapid snow melt on ground that was still frozen. It didn't affect me much, but the shooting range I go to is pretty wet. I am still hoping to get out shooting, I don't think anything's been closed down. If I make it in, I'll run through the MFC qualifier and then shoot my rifles.

Back-up plan is to break out the fly rod and enjoy an afternoon of spring fishing. And I'll probably watch some basketball. My kids are on spring break and my wife left with them this morning, so it's a rare wide-open weekend for me.

Anybody else got fun plans for the weekend?

The high school started their spring break today. The temperature is supposed to be 22° tomorrow so the break is off to a very cold start. If we decide to go shooting, it will be indoor range again for my boy and me.

Going to be moving two hours away to another town this weekend. I was able to transfer within my company to work on final drive components for Caterpillar machines. Thankfully most of my money is in firearms, ammo and my trucks so I don't have to move much lol.

I remember moving to Texas with my ammo. I first tried to fill the entire trunk of my Subaru Legacy with it. The tires were touching the inside of the wheel well.

Got done moving move of my stuff in one truck, then drove back to pack my kitchen stuff (was planning to come back for furniture and stay the night anyway). The entire town of Gillette doesn't have ANY rental cars available since this morning lol, so my original plan to drive back with my last load and get a rental to come back to grab my other truck and furniture backfired. Then I realized that I can tow my other truck with my AAA gold membership with it loaded with my furniture lmao.
