I was going to buy one at Schreve in Boston a few months ago since they only get one every 18 mo, it was Blue face which is a little more desirable so there was a premium. They were asking 22k, but with some hassling, since my family spends so much there, we agreed at just under 19. I went back to buy it the next day and it had sold for 25.

I'm on the wait list now.

edit: sorry, didn't read the Chrono part, I don't know off hand what they go for because I have never asked, but I would not pay over $20k for it.

Bezel should be fine and be more durable than the previous SS bezel, unless of course you seriously hammer it into a door handle or something. Not heard of too many problems with the existing ceramic bezel daytonas

But as others have said, much better options for the money if paying the silly premiums

I was going to buy the Daytona but I found out that the AP withstood damage better after if was run over by a truck, so I got the AP instead.

not a total myth, I've seen at least 2-3 threads on TRF where the bezel exploded after dropping it/hitting a door frame etc

Yeah no doubt ceramic bezels are breakable but do the equivalent impact to a SS PP/AP bezel and it'll probably need replacing and that'll sting even more so. Some AP repair bills I've seen are scary

I'm not saying it shatters from looking at it, but any drop or ding against a doorpost/whatever has a good chance to **** up your bezel, more than just a scratch or dent. Nor did I imply the bezels shatter at will, I said the Day C is designed to shatter; no more metal protective guard, bezel sitting well over the edge of the case = the Apple way. Fashion over function. Let's not forget, the Daytona is a tool watch in the first place… well or at least was one - along with the rest of the Rolex line-up, but those days are well gone.

I mean anything is breakable.. I've actually personally had a spring bar come loose off mine and had my watch fall 4+ feet on to a tile floor and it was fine.

Just saying that there have been only maybe 3-4 pics that I've ever seen posted, and none have had any context of what actually happened IIRC. Compared that to the hundreds of thousands+ of C bezeled Rolexes that are out there.

if youre doing an activity or anticipate doing an activity where you would encounter enough impact to shatter a ceramic bezel, you probably shouldnt be wearing an expensive watch while doing so

and if you are careless enough to hit your ceramic bezel so hard that it would shatter, then you probably shouldnt be wearing watches at all

so this is really a non-issue

Any way to decide whether to go cheap or more expensive? I could get a Mako XL for like 200 and I doubt I'd even notice the money go. Alternatively I could spend 2-3k and take a reasonable hit from my savings. Can probably do it on finance for 12 months.

Is this a good deal?

Looks a pretty legit site, what do you think?

https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/bro...ewellers.co.uk

Edit, I'll go to some retailer and see what I can do on price. If it's not much more it's probably worth it.

Not really sure on the grey market thing, it appears this price is. I take it Omega don't provide the warranty?

noi clue on that store, p much if they arent an authorized seller for the brand you want, the watch may have ground off serial numbers, and will not have a factory warrenty. so if you have an issue and send it in to be serviced underwarrenty it could go to joe-schomoe watch service for all you know because its not gonna be going to omega, not for free anyways. you get it back and it doesnt work right still, not you have to send it to omega and pay the 5-600 dollars in fees to have it repaired 1 time. that same 5-600 you could have paid initially with the purchase cost and had unlimited repairs for defects for the next 3-5 years what ever the warrenty period is on omegas these days.

So been to an Omega boutique and they'd only knock 100 off. Anyone in the UK know of any retailers that will knock more off? Otherwise I think I'll just pay interest free finance.

Also really torn between the PO and the SM300 (black or blue), almost 1200 difference, but I'm leaning to the PO.

What's retail on the PO?

I'm not really up to date on the Omega market but first thing I would do is compare the retail price to the grey market price. If it's only a sake of a few saving (after getting as much discount as possible) obviously go to an Authorised dealer such as Goldsmiths, Ernest Jones, WOS etc etc.

Also check out Chrono24 and narrow it down to UK listings, a lot of smaller jewellers / grey dealers / resellers list there and usually it will come exactly as if you bought from the authorised dealer, obviously finding one local to see it in person and pay cash would be advised and beneficial.

PO 3950 retail. 2875 grey market. Or 2770 and 2190 on the SM300.

The main issue with the company seems to be delivery, which seems it can take months. It appears they don't actually have the watches but import them(?). The warranty and boxing seems legit.

So, I'm a noob. Owned a few fossil watches way back. Currently loving skeleton watches. Do you think it's worth searching for cheap skeletons? Or are the only ones worth buying expensive? I'd probably say the price would be under $500. Not on that balling time yet.

Depends what you are interested in. The average generic skeleton watch is a piece of Chinese chit that exists for the sole purpose of either looking interesting, or fooling people into thinking it's an expensive watch. Neither is wrong or right based on what you're looking for.

A Hamilton with a display back would fit your budget, and would be a high quality piece that even the highest watch snob couldn't really put down.

My wife bought me a watch from long island watch, everything went pretty smooth, the watch was in great condition, and it was packaged very nicley by the shipper unlike amazon or other places that sell orient where they just toss the watchex box into a large cardboard box and allow it to slide around through transit.
