Just my 2 cents and not criticism by any means: when you're in a spectacular location like that using a longer lens don't be afraid to shoot a handheld pano (even tilting down/up for another row to get more foreground or sky) to stitch together in post with software.

Panos are all I shoot for landscapes these days because they give me more options for cropping later not to mention you can print or display it on a large scale with incredible detail. I think they end up looking better than trying to cram it all in with a wide lens where the mountains and anything else in the distance will usually look too small. Focal length is spot on in all your shots — I'm just wishing there was more field of view with it and that's where the pano comes in.

lmao, luckily I was surrounded by hotels to stop in. Made the mistake of not eating before leaving though and had dinner at 11:45pm.

It was nuts to see how much work goes on behind the scenes, it took them a good 30-45 minutes to set everything up for a ~20 second shot. Plus having to vie for a good spot in the crowd to shoot from. With this one I luckily managed to claim a tiny piece of sidewalk to myself in between a police car on the road and a planter on the sidewalk so I could have room to pan. Shot at 1/25 @ 200mm

That's really good advice actually, I was conscious with the focal length but you are right many shots do lack foreground and I don't want to reduce the focal length because then you have the small mountain effect. Gives me a good excuse next time to try out the panorama settings since I rarely touch it.

as said above, clean car.
then, it is a preference thing.

I like to get low and long for my car shots; that's my go to. Some people prefer shoot from above and hardly ever go low. it is all about the personal decision.

This is exactly where I've arrived at too. Handheld panos when I'm skiing and things have worked really well and I pano shoot just about every landscape and crop later.

My problem is the photos always make the vehicle look strangely proportioned. Possibly a side effect of a cheap camera.
Any more suggestions?

closest way I can describe it is like a fish eye lens but less stylistic and generally unappealing.

if proportions are off, it sounds like you're too close to the vehicle, and shooting wide.
If you want to post a pic, i'm sure Domink (and, maybe i) can chime in more

Depends on the car and it's best angle. I like to do about a 45 degree front angle with the front wheel/tire facing the camera. Some cars have a better rear end, so shoot from the rear at an angle and the wheel slightly facing the camera.

I was in a bit of a rush on this one since I just happened to run into the guy and it's the only pics I got on imgur right now of cars. Ideally the setting would be better than a gas station, sunrise/sunset for the best colors/shadows. Depending on your camera, so night lighting near a corporation or art facility/stadium can provide some great shots.

I've never seen many straight on or side shots look great, somehow you'll want to angle the car for the best shots.

Also, the rule of 3rds does apply to cars, so the landscape should be about 1/3 of the shot.

Just came across this thread, didn't know anyone else on the misc was into photography. Have had a photography business for the last two years. Been published 3 times in Femme Rebelle out of the UK, once in Prolific Quarterly Fashion Magazine out of Tampa Florida and once in another small magazine for a mental health awareness advert.

I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark II, have a 50 mm lens, 35 mm lens, 24-70 mm and 70-200 mm lens among various other equipment.

Haven't been as active lately, not a lot of business coming my way or up and coming models who are interested in TFP work.

You can see my port at In_this_moment_photography on IG or robertrupe.myportfolio.com

Three of my favorite shots to date are:

This image was taken at 5 in the afternoon.

Process: Multiple exposure stacking (usually 5 pics at 1 stop difference in either direction)
Post Process: Take to PS and merge to HDR (note, not doing typical HDR, just for the layering and then adjust levels and color etc), and then finally straighten all lines.

I’ve only been shooting during day time, as I cannot figure out doing a light “painting” with a flash rig to save my life. I feel like the stuff I see that stands out to me for the most part are ones that are taking during the daytime, but are 100% using flash painting. Like even this guy:

And a more obvious use for night time

Any tips/tutorials/etc? I’m actually considering hitting up people on Redfin or zillow with chit tier pics and offer to take some for free, just for experience.
Yes sir… it's my full time job.

Honestly, these are very decent and much better than most of my competition lol. The outdoor one definitely looks like you used a flash.. I'm surprised you didn't. The interior shot isn't bad either but I would bring the exposure up outside. Nice compositions and nice work though.
