I am torn between a pass rusher and a guard. Either one makes a secondary or pass attack look better.

I'm not so concerned about the WR position, a good QB can make average WRs look better. Garcon + Goodwin + Taylor + (insert FA WR) I think we're good. Maybe a RB and or WR in the middle rounds would be fine by me.

I love where the team is at but would say we need to address depth/better starters at Guard and Center and then locking up Brown. Should invest heavily in OL in draft and FA as Staley is getting up there, Garnett still an unknown, and our center and guards leave a bit to be desired, although with Jimmy look way better.

Then I would say a legit pass rusher on the edge and CB are tied for next needs. Do we move Jimmy back to corner? Sign Reid? I like Colbert and Tartt in the safety spot but Ward and Reid did look better this year in limited time. IMO Colbert has to start next year. I like K'Waun Williams and Witherspoon to improve but after them corner is a big question.

After that everything is up in the air. As I said earlier I want Hyde back, getting Garcon will help at WR, TE looks pretty solid, maybe some depth at ILB needed with Coyle going into surgery and Smith coming back and Foster always banged up.

All things considered I am very excited to see the offseason and our roster heading into next year.

Am I the only one concerned with Foster? Guy seems to be dinged up all of the time? Feel like he’s always getting checked on by the medical staff.

I'd be more concerned if he needed another shoulder surgery. Stingers are a bitch but they're not going to take him out for whole games. Hopefully he uses the offseason to get himself healthy and work on his technique so he can bring the pain without inflicting any on himself.

I'm more concerned about off the field stuff in the offseason with a kid like Rueben. He doesn't seem like a problem kid but someone who may go with the flow a bit too much which can get celebs in trouble. Hopefully we don't hear any off the field issues this offseason with niner players.

A legit pass rusher can take our defense to another level and it's so rare to see a good pass rusher hit free agency. You see talented guards in free agency all the time. Also this draft class G depth >>>>> pass rusher depth.

I do agree that a good QB can make up for lack of WR talent. We saw what Jimmy did and really the only WR I think is worth a first round pick for us is Calvin Ridley but with Jimmy at QB my desire for us to draft him has dropped. I think pass rusher absolutely needs to be our first pick or a trade down. Quenton Nelson wouldn't upset me but so much depth in this class we can get a starter caliber guard in the 2nd/3rd round. They may not be a guaranteed all pro like Nelson but pass rusher & tier 2 G is better than Nelson & tier 2 pass rusher in this class.

Reid looked really good in some games so I'm torn on him. I don't really see a starting spot for him but would suck to see him go to Seattle(I'd put 80% odds that he'd sign there if we didn't re-sign him)

I think we wait to sign Brown to see how he looks next year and I think that's a smart move. This draft has pretty good OL talent and I definitely think we address OL both in FA and the draft. Fusco should be good. I'd like to see Tomlinson cut after losing his job to a better player(s) Kilgore if re-signed should be a backup.

I also think we double dip on a corner in free agency and draft.

Excited to see what we do.

I get what you're saying. A top pass rusher will provide more for this defense than a top guard because the 2nd, 3rd, 4th best guard will do a well enough job considering who is at QB. At the same time I think Nelson would be more of a sure thing than a pass rusher just because they're so hard to find.
I wouldn't be upset with either and I'll be honest I just don't know enough about this class' pass rusher depth. If we can get one i'd be thrilled. I remember how much better our DBs looked with the Smith brothers harassing QBs.
I think either one helps. A top QB & OL can keep the opposing offense off the field with those short passes and a solid running game. Again I'd be content with either.

Another Jimmy GQ boner inducing read

http://www.49ers.com/news/article-2/...d-c4f1d067f8db

Hope to hear we get him signed to a long term deal sooner rather than later. I'm sure we'll do our best to avoid the franchise tag. I'm confident it will get done but would love to see the theories and speculation about Jimmy going somewhere else stop.

And I know some of you guys don't bother with much draft stuff but if you're curious definitely follow the senior bowl stuff this year(coming up in a few weeks) this year has some great talent showing up.

Currently this is what I'm hoping to see from us come draft time

Round 1 - I'm looking at the following guys at 9 or 10, in order of preference. I think each of those guys helps us be a much better team in their own way
Harold Landry - LEO edge rusher we desperately need to take the defense to another level. Helps Thomas/Buckner push the pocket or rush from the other side and helps the secondary cover
Roquan Smith - Remember when we had Patrick Willis and Navarro Bowman how easy it made things? Well this is option 2.0 with Smith and Foster just chasing down the ball carrier and giving the DC so many options
Quenton Nelson - I'm not usually one to draft G so high but Nelson is a straight up stud. Plug and play player who will be an All Pro very quickly. Guy is big, strong and plays nasty. Not a perfect fit scheme wise but he can excel in any scheme and help get the running game opened up and protect guys from Jimmy.
Joshua Jackson - this is the one guy whose stock is in biggest question due to limited starting experience but I made that mistake with Lattimore last year and he's played well plus Jackson has no injury concerns. Kid is still raw but had a monster year and showed some really good things, especially his ability to get turnovers. Would give us another potential shutdown corner on the other side from Witherspoon and help the front get more time to rush.

Round 2 - I think this is a great spot to find an impact running back in this class. Not sure if one of these guys will last to the Saints pick in the 2nd but I want one of them BAD, if they're all gone though I'd rather wait to take someone like Akrum Wadley later.
Ronald Jones
Rashaad Penny
Sony Michel

Round 3 - best OLman on the board.

3a. Would love to see Braden Smith or Frank Ragnow last til this pick but I would take either one in a heart beat.
3b. I'd be looking at WR/TE or CB if we didn't take one in the first at this point.

Day 3 go find some more gems like last year.

Obviously way too early and always hard to predict who goes where but we'll have a great opportunity to improve this team. I really want us to land one of those running backs and with an improved interior OL and Jimmy at QB this offense could be sexy as hell to watch next year.

What do you think about Arden Key? Some scouts I follow on twitter like him better than Landry.

If we cant get a corner in free agency I think that becomes our biggest need. We cant go into the season with Donte Johnson as our starter.

I want no part of Key. I like his talent as a pass rush but he screams bust. Doesn't always give max effort and walked away from his team for whatever reasons. We already had a Joe Williams pick last year and it didn't pay off…and he was a 4th round pick.

I'm sure we'll address CB in FA and the draft.

Dear lord. How many games is he looking at? I don't think this is going to be an issue going forward, but it is a dumb thing for the team to have to deal with. Just spend most of your time in Cali, Reubs.

Probably 2 games as I’m sure he’s in the system already.

This was my biggest concern for this offseason. So many young/still immature players on the roster and all this time off.

It’s a damn shame that Reuben couldn’t avoid that chit for a bit in a spot where it’s still illegal.

I hope this is the only bad thing we see happen this offseason and Reuben learns from this and we never see him in the news again for something stupid. The hiring of Ken Norton will hopefully help get these young guys to grow up quick and have some responsibility.

Personally doesn’t worry me a bit about Foster. In 2018, how can anyone be bothered by someone smoking weed?

I’m more concerned with how often he was getting dinged up on the field. Probably why he’s been smoking weed.

I don't smoke but couldn't care less if someone does and I think this chit should be legal everywhere…the health benefits alone are astronomical.

However it's not legal in Bama and it's not legal within the CBA…so him doing that chit when he can chill in Cali and smoke til he's blue in the face is a stupid decision and unfortuantely the issue with Foster wasn't that he was a bad dude..but his decision making was suspect.

Unfortunately he got popped and it's kicking off what should've been an awesome offseason for the 49ers and their fans in the wrong direction. He's supposed to be the next Willis/Bowman…can't have this happen.

Hopefully this is his wake up call and we don't hear another peep out of him but there was also a story about him and Armstrong almost getting robbed early in the season and while you can't fault a dude for that but once again…decision making. Keep yourself out of situations which COULD hurt you, your family or your team and there will be no issues.

Put yourself into situations where something could go wrong even if the chance is very small - like driving around smoking/carrying weed in a state that doesn't have it legal and there's a chance you get pulled over and arrested for it.

We need this dude to keep his head on straight and stay on the field. I'm so tired of hearing about our players getting arrested. I want some good news…

The real issue is if this puts him in the position for ransoms. I can’t see him surviving that. Definitely a rough start. I have no issue st all with him smoking…it’s the fact he leaves CA to go smoke in AL. Cop had to be the biggest nerd or Auburn fan to arrest him in AL.

Anyway, we need a new thread soon. I don’t want to carry this PoS into the new year. Let’s get the Kaep talk and losing garbage rosters in the past.

I wonder if humpty is gonna come back next year?

Well we have Tartt and Colbert and possibly Reid too if we resign him, if anything I think we should move Jimmy back to corner or keep at safety, he played pretty solid in his games, problem is dude is always injured, but then again everyone was this year.

Lol I heard that Jimmy GQ is getting paid by the Patriots for their win and could get more money if they make the Superbowl and win it. All because he played 8 games with them and is in the NFC.

I was thinking maybe they keep him but restructure his contract, right now iirc he has no money guaranteed in his contract.

That game was lost due to some terrible coaching calls. Trying to run the ball on 4th down twice with a yard to go in FG range. Onside kick with 2 to's and 2min warning and wasting drives with 3 runs plays in a row for literally most of 3rd quarter or anytime they got within 1 possession. There was also a **** ton of PI's by the Jags defense that were missed and a roughing the passer where Ben got suplexed right next to the ref with no calls.

On another note, got my Jimmy GQ and Foster jerseys on the same day Foster got popped. Foster seems like someone that can go down the same route Aldon did. Hopefully he learns from this.

Have to say I'm bummed out about Ken Norton leaving to coach for Seattle. Especially after the issue with Foster. I think Norton would've been really good for Foster and other players who may have concerns off the field. Hopefully they can find someone else or get someone in their own building to serve that mentor role and get these guys right.

No more stupidity please!!! I'm so done with off the field chit from our guys ruining great careers.

As far as Norton actually going to Seattle to be their DC…wtf? What has he showed to be excited about? Hopefully it will be for our benefit to see him as their DC.

Have you guys had a chance to look at any of the draft eligible players?

Any favorites?

I'm a bit bummed out a couple of underclassmen I thought would be in this class are not coming out - Cleilin Ferrell(who i thought would be a good pick at LEO) and Damien Harris and Bryce Love and while I had different prospects I liked for us over those guys it does take a hit to the still stacked RB class.

No question we have to knock it out of the park this offseason with the free agency and draft.

I do think the draft once again plays well into our weaknesses. Last year we really needed to address the D and the defense talent was top notch and it looks like we found at least 4 starters with Thomas, Foster, Witherspoon and Colbert.

This year the interior OL is very strong with some quality C prospects. The CB class isn't as dominant as strong as it was last year but it's still pretty good. RB class even with Harris and Love going back to school is stacked. Pass rush isn't as great as it was last year but not terrible either.

Hopefully we win the coin toss with Oakland but I'd still be very curious to see who's available because I think a trade down with a chance to acquire another early 2nd round pick would be the best move for us to make.

How would you feel about Jimmy Graham. He's stayed healthier thank Gronk and has more TD over the least two years… for the right price of course.

Havent really dug into this years class too much but some guys i'd like in the first 2 rounds

#9 or #10
Quenton Nelson (G) - best guard in the nation. Nasty.
Roquan Smith (LB) - Bit of overkill here at LB but can we trust Foster? He would be BPA if he is still there at 9-10
Harold Landry (EDGE)- Some fans would lose their minds if we picked another DL in the first. But he actually fits!!!
Calvin RIdley (WR) - I'm intrigued by him. Great route runner
Arden Key (EDGE) - kind of risky but he could be the best edge rusher in the draft

2nd round:
James Washington (WR) - probably wont be there at #59
Auden Tate (WR) - great size with nice potential
Anthony Miller (WR) - great production and good route runner.
Dorance Armstrong (edge) - a pass rush specialist in college. Played on a bad team

I have a lot of WRs on my list but i'm really not advocating a pick that high. I just dont know too many others players yet.
