I'm still nervous about our defense coming together but I think we have some good building blocks but adding a pass rusher will be key. I expect us to address CB in free agency and the draft.

Thinking we're looking at this defense assuming teams don't tag certain players.

Base:

LDE: Solomon Thomas
NT: Mitchell
DT: DeForest Buckner
LEO: Ziggy Ansah
Sam: Marsh/Harold
Mike: Reuben Foster
Will: Malcolm Smith
CB: Witherspoon
FS: Colbert
SS: Tartt
CB: Free agent

In Nickel Thomas moves inside to 3T next to Buckner. Ansah would rush from the left and we bring in another guy off the right at Leo and Ward comes in at Nickel CB.

I think LB also becomes a pretty sizable need especially if Foster can't stay healthy or out of trouble

Roquan Smith would be a great get. I'm not super excited about Edmunds.

Not sure Harold really stands as far as his contract but he can kick rocks. I don't think he is very good and he is to close to Kap and Reid. I am sick and tired of the "Know your rights" crap.

Yeah…i hate seeing him there. I had high hopes for that pick but he's been a huge disappointment. Definitely should be looking to replace him.

Apparently some players have been contacting Jimmy about coming here.

https://www.ninersnation.com/2018/2/...source=twitter

I'm not really sold on Butler but I have no problem players recruiting players. Hoping the players we really need don't get tagged.

This mother fuker is ruining this offseason all on his own.

He totally faked the team on this one. Forget the fact that it's his 2nd god damn arrest in 2 months…it's a domestic abuse situation which totally puts the team in a chit situation cuz of the Brock release last year.

If they don't release him it looks like the obvious hypocrisy where good players get a break while other get released.

What an idiot.

May be best to really consider Smith at this point. Foster will stay with off field issues.

I think they'll give him another chance. It's all happening in the off season so the dynamics is different. Plus we need to let the law take its course here. Just can't start condemning somebody without knowing the whole picture. But fuk is this guy a boner killer.

This dude needs to be held accountable in some way. Can't be a great teammate if you're fuking over your team with stupid ass decisions.

I agree since the locker room chemistry is really great. But I mean, don't we have to see how this turns out before we start making judgements about him? It's clear he has issues with being an idiot off the field. Even if he's not guilty, he still puts himself in these situations that can be detrimental. But I just don't want to start automatically condemning somebody for a charge as bad as domestic abuse until we know all the facts. But I'm with you when it comes to labeling this guy an idiot.

His time is done. A failed test before the combine and now these two issues. Sad to say but he can go. Sucks because now we have another huge hole to fill.

****ing Foster man wtf. Somebody needs to get in this kids head and make him change or hire him 24 hr personal surveillance. Only reason he gets a chance with us is they can play the youth card with it and also because it may not come to fruition in court but right now he's on two strikes. Deserves a suspension IMO and a slap in the ****ing head for being such a dumb****. Get your head out of your ass Ruben this team is going to great heights with or without you if you wanna make a name for yourself in the NFL you gotta stay in the NFL otherwise you'll be the next Aldon Smith not Patrick Willis.

Weed/gun things don’t concern me. Hoping this is some BS case like with Jarvis Landry.

Not that hopeful though. Some of these guys are just too dumb. Lynch has to be livid right now.

The gun and weed thing doesn't bother me at all….what bothers me is he was stupid enough to get arrested for them.

The domestic abuse thing is a serious issue and I'm praying it's not a legit claim and a BS thing that goes away….the league will likely suspend him anyways no matter what though.

The decision making is awful though. The combine situation, 2 arrests in one offseason the only saving grace with this kid is when he's around football he was good…though the report where he and Amrstrong almost got jacked at a club made me nervous but you can't get mad at a young dude wanting to hit up some clubs on off days.

However the problem for Lynch and Kyle is the Tramaine Brock situation. He was arrested for domestic abuse and we cut his ass out of the gate. Now people could've said "well he was a potential starting corner" but we all know he wasn't THEIR guy. Foster is THEIR guy. Their love for him was well reported and he was very close to being the #3 overall pick by this regime. Do they cut him and send a CLEAR message to everyone else that no matter who you are this chit doesn't fly? Or do they give him a second chance because he's their guy? Which of course sends a different message…don't fuk up unless you're talented and we drafted you.

Like I said he put the team into an AWFUL position with this. Not just because he'll be missing games due to a suspension and the bad press but the fallout…

He's super talented and the only good linebacker we have. i would hate to lose him because I think this team is ready to compete but now LB is a huge hole once again. Even if we don't cut him I'm assuming he gets 6 games at the minimum.

This may sound bad but to me that actually sounded like a better alternative to what I expected…which was he straight out beat her.

Dragging her can certainly be a pretty violent act if he was say dragging her by her hair or leg as she’s getting beat up on the ground. But at this point I want to hear the details and both sides of the story.

It does sound that for whatever reason Foster wanted her out of the house. Could they have had a big fight and he was kicking her out and she decided to go crazy on him? Possible. Could things have happened exactly as she claimed…unfortunately also very possible.

Lots of possible scenarios. Foster doesn’t look great in any of them but there are some where he won’t look as bad.

Will see what happens but I don’t see any way he’s not gone at least 6 games and that sucks because it makes LB a serious need in the draft.

Good news is that Joe Mixon is still a starting NFL running back and what he did was way worse.

Not a good look though for an owner that said, “winning with class is what matters.”

Hate that this thread has turned into such a downer when we should be optimistic as hell right now. Just gonna assume he’s innocent until proven guilty.

Agreed with this. I was expecting to see pictures with bruises, etc. But if it was a situation where he wanted her out of his property, this can go differently for him in terms of punishment and optics. I'm with the let-the-facts-come-out-before-judging crew. I think that Foster is just one of those people who make really bad choices. Hopefully, if he gets out of this off season okay, he learns something from it.

I think they know Kilgore is sort of the best option at this point, not much talent at center in FA or draft and tbh not our biggest need. Draft one later rounds, and just let Kilgore do his thing, he actually played well when Jimmy was playing. I'm ok with it but maybe wish it was a 2 year deal.

I haven't seen the breakdown of the numbers yet, but I imagine it isn't that expensive. And like everyone else said there isn't much else out there in the FA that would be much better.

Even if we don’t draft Smith, we need to start working on a replacement. Foster stays around trouble and it isn’t going to change, plus, he’s an injury risk at all times. Sucks because he is a stud on the field, but our great opportunity to make the playoffs this year will decrease with foster missing 3 or 4 games.

Seems like the sort of guy that has to be cut for him to have a possibility of changing. Honestly amazes and impressed me how Saban can manage these guys, even if it’s sweeping stuff under the rug which would be its own full time job.

You bring up a good point. Foster is injury prone and now he's suspension prone, lol that's a new one, so it doesn't look like we can count on him being on the field. I don't think we should cut him but he needs to be suspended a good 6+ weeks. The 49ers will be smart if they plan on not having him this upcoming season.

I didn't hate it because he's obviously liked by Jimmy G since he mentioned he'd like to see Kilgore back and also hung out with him outside of the team stuff and he did look a little better with Jimmy. However I hope we don't just take Center off the wish list with the assumption that Kilgore has it on lockdown.

I feel pretty confident the team wouldn't do that anyways since they've been very much all about competition though they may not address the Center position via free agency now with Kilgore being the "vet" but I'd love to see Frank Ragnow or James Daniels added in the draft. They could play guard early then transition to Center eventually or maybe even beat him outright.

I wouldn't have minded the Smith draft pick even before Foster started getting arrested just because we don't have a ton of talent at LB and a duo similar to what we had with Willis and Bowman can make it easy on the defense. Not sure if Smith is an ideal fit at inside in the NFL either but one would play inside and the other would be a great Will backer. Both know how to find the ball and get tackles.
