I saw one youtuber cut off a 90 degree sata connector, stick i in the slot and rest the GPU on it lol. Did the job

does anyone here have an idea how much CPU temps will contribute to the lifespan of the chip?

I game / render a lot on my laptop and the CPU operates at a constant 80-85 for long periods of time

its an i7-6700K if that helps

New keyboardStraight from China for about 50 bucks. Probably the best mechanical keyboard I've owned for the price point. It's pretty heavy for a tenkeyless. Feels very sturdy and the build quality is excellent!

even comes with removable micro usb cable, so you can replace the cable if you felt like it. I chose gateron brown switches instead of blues.

Do you need 2 144Hz displays? Will you play with multi-monitors?
The extra cost of 144Hz is not worth it for secondary displays that will be used for work. Spend the extra money instead on business-grade monitors such as Dell's 2560x1440 IPS monitors with a good pivot stand. (Or LG, Samsung etc.) For secondary displays a good pivot stand is really alpha and omega.

You could change your power supply to a 550W version of the Supernova G2 or G3. (G3 being newer)
You could also change out the SK henix ssd with a Samsung 960 Evo just to get the best.

Nah, I won't play with 2 monitors, just 1. I'd use 2 for work though so I probably don't need the second to be a 144hz display? Honestly, monitors have been the hardest thing to research because I have no idea wtf I'm doing in that area ayyy lmao.

I'll definitely switch the psu and SSD. The price differences are negligible so cheers for that. Anything else I need to know before I go in on it?

Canned air + wash out the fan filters in water and let them dry.

My apartment is notoriously dusty, so I do it about once a month.

In a normal house I only had to do it about every 3 months.

Well, as dizzin9 posted - a Ryzen build might be the best option that's currently out there. 6 Cores and 12 threads will be much more beneficial than 4 cores 4 threads in the Intel i5 7600k. Gaming wise they are currently on par, some games will underperform slightly, but overtime it will be better adjusted. For all productivity tasks and such it's a killer. It's knocking the Intel i7 6800K out of the park.

And I would personally buy the Ryzen build over the Intel build. If you don't have anything against getting your fingers dirty(*) you couldeasilyoverclock your Ryzen cpu from 3.2 GHz baseclock to 3.8-4.0 GHz which would give you lots of extra juice.

As for monitors - this has to be your picking. What size do you want? 24"? 27"? 32"? 34"? What kind of colors do you want?

Hmm interesting. I'll have to look more into the Ryzen build before I make a decision. I'll likely be using it more for work as opposed to gaming so maybe the Ryzen build is the way to go. I'll look into it and watch some vids.

As for monitors, I'm not too worried about having perfect colors since I don't do anything that requires color sensitive work, nor do I plan on streaming anything in 4k or anything like that. My only restriction is desk space, and to a lesser extent, budget. I was originally planning on doing dual 24" monitors just to have a little extra space on my desk, but if I can get a good deal on something bigger, I wouldn't be opposed to it. I also don't want to spend $500+ on a single monitor so I set an arbitrary price of $250 max for each. I'm not picky about monitors tbh, so if I can save a little cash here, I'd like to. As I said earlier, I'd like to have one for gaming/work and the other primarily work (my work is typically extra pdfs, word docs, spread sheets, internet tabs and **** like that so I don't need anything spectacular here).

I haven't decided if I want to go liquid or air cooler yet. Tbh, I really like the way that liquid cooler looks so I might go with it. I'm not really worried about it leaking, but it'll likely come down to which is easier to install.

Agreed. A 3770/4770 + 980 (maybe Ti) system would probably be the best you could build for that price (if talking US dollars, and doing some bargain hunting) and will run well for current games on high, but you'll have to start knocking down settings to keep FPS up in the years to come.

You could probably go with an i5 variant and the Ti and make it within that budget. Only a few games would suffer.

Not that often to be honest, my PCs never seem to get dusty even when I've used cases that have zero dust filters. I usually give them a quick clean every 2-4 months though.

Computerbase.de, Servethehome, AdoredTv and JayzTwoCents have the most indepth reviews of Ryzen systems.
Computerbase.de have a large test suite and they are usually less biased.
Servethehome has actual production tests, all done in Linux, where they show the insane performance and worth of the Ryzen CPUs for production.
AdoredTv investigates and shows where large disparities of gaming benchmarks stem from and he also has reviews of the CPUs.
Jayztwocents used the ryzen system for 30 days, encoding, streaming, gaming etc.

5 years is too much of a stretch on high. with a 60fps requirement. medium settings these days are very nice compared to 10 years ago. some times not even noticeable compared to high in some games. but $500 can build a decent tower that can last easily 2+ years.

buying used is really a good idea. i just built a used system for $250 total with spare parts. im thinking that should last me 2+. i5 3570 + rx 480

The RX 480 is a nice cheap card, throw an OC on there and you're set.
