I don't wanna be that guy, but you insulted me first, so don't try to take the high road. You're not my height, unless you have the shortest arms in the world, not only that, but you weigh160lbs, isn't that what the average woman weighs in the US.

And no, I am 170lb pure lean muscle.
What have you done with that higher threshold for pain? Did you like join the military in a combat role? Or are you just talking out of your ass while working as a construction worker? Is the pain you reference centered around your lower back?
I'll give you a hint that my career is in extreme sports.I've been called a lot of things in my life, but never submissive and soft.

170lbs of pure cope.
Janitorial duties is not an extreme sport.

Not every kid is submissive.
I wasn't bad, I was very curious/fearless, and very stubborn.
It's not a good combination that I'd imagine parents want to see in the sense of I used to do things that could've killed me.
Hell one of my first memories was burning my arm on the stove after my mother explicitly told me not to play with the stove.
Some of that "time out" parenting strategy only works if you're raising nerd you wanna sit in front of a computer all day long.

I grew up in the deep south and I understand that the phrase "beat your kids" is not meant to be taken literally. It's a colloquialism for keeping them in line. It absolutely involves physical punishment, but it's measured. Of course, not every parent gets it right, but many do.
No kids myself, but my best friend of 35+ years has 3 boys and a girl. I've been around them their entire lives. At the youngest boy's 11th birthday party the kid was behaving terribly because he didn't get the gift he wanted. After some back and forth between the boy and his father the kid blurted out "suck my dink." Now, the kid is normally super well-behaved, but that wasn't going to fly in any situation. The moment the words left his mouth I slapped the chit out of that boy and his father didn't even give me so much as a glance. He would have done it himself had he been standing where I was.
The boy knew better and he was testing the boundaries. I simply reminded him where they were. Of course, later that day after his pride was less hurt, his father and I talked to him about it, but we gave no apologies. The kid is 15 now and treats me with utmost respect and I've never seen him repeat that kind of blatant disrespect.
Tl;dr - phuk your feelings, beat your kids.

Seems like more evidence for youtuber Stefan Molyneux's (I'm not a fan of his anymore, for the record) belief that people who have experiences of violence as a child, tend to be the people who become obsessed with martial arts.
Basically they become obessed with violence, due to violence being inflicted upon him from a young age.
From what I've seen... Literally every single martial arts instructor that I've known that has shared their pre-adult life story, has had formative experiences with violence. I've also noticed that trend with the best MMA brahs and boxers, when we find out about their life story (e.g. Mike Tyson, GSP, Diaz Brothers, etc).
This is one of the videos from Stefan, which pissed off a lot of people in the martial arts community, but he was spot on IME...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRuBO_VbGFI
I would guess that 90% of people who develop a lifetime passion for marital arts, had serious aggression inflicted upon them (e.g. Mike Tyson) or observed a lot of aggression growing up (e.g. Joe Rogan).

I really can't fathom that.
Even if I agreed with 'slapping the chit out of a child', I would in no way let another man step into that role and do it on my behalf.
I really can't believe he let you play daddy to his child.
Am I the only one here who thinks that is a phucked up story?!
Did he let you bang his wife on his behalf too?
The kid is 15 now and treats me with utmost respect and I've never seen him repeat that kind of blatant disrespect.
I agree that inflicting violence can be a good way to keep people from being a dick to you. Adults and children alike tend to be more polite to people who they fear may be violent towards. What we are talking about is the damage in can cause (e.g. an overactive amygdala... Google: Amygdala corporal punishment.)

I'm not advocating for or against physical discipline but your arguments are so loaded with BS and fallacies I feel like calling you out. Stop pretending that anyone who uses physical discipline is unhinged, inconsistent and "beats" their children. A smack on the ass or a slap over the head is a far cry from a "beating" and there are plenty of people who are good parents that hold different views to you and your particular cultural group. I wouldn't let a few bad apples spoil the whole image of daughters. It all depends on how you raise them. Look at the extreme dichotomy of the pic; one you have an aggressive (almost hostile) personality and mentality and in the other pic, you have a submissive, slave like adoration for mistreatment.

My wife has a 9 year old sister, and she decided one day to kick me in the shin. I told her to stop, and she did it again, because I'm male, and I couldn't possibly retaliate against her, again I told her to stop, and told her that if she behaves this way, one day a man will knock her out, and it will be well deserved. She kicked me again, so I kicked her right back. She went to my wife crying about my kicking her. When my wife asked why I kicked her, she couldn't lie and say it was unprovoked. My wife told her that's what happens when you decide to strike someone, they usually strike back. That was a good learning experience in how life is for her. But here's the thing, I didn't get mad, I didn't threaten to "beat her ass", I didn't yell, I didn't try to pull rank on her, not only that, but after my explaining what she was doing was wrong and why, my wife reinforced what I said. In the end, I was defending myself as opposed to beating her to discipline her.
I fostered a teen who was just as you describe, he was 14. His mother didn't want him anymore, because he was acting the way she raised him to act. As soon as he moved in with my wife and I, most of his behavioral problems stopped. He still tried to get over, as all teenagers do, but he wasn't trying to fist fight me as he would do with his mother and brother. I gave him something his mother demanded but never reciprocated, and that's respect. I never threatened violence against him, or even raised my voice. He never once disrespected me or my wife. I had a talk with his mother, and told her the issue was her, and her incompetence in raising him. She did not like that, but it was the truth.
That said, I'm all for slapping a teen, not a child, a teen, but I don't expect they won't swing back at me. Children can't understand why you're beating on them, a 15 year who wants to get violent might need to shown that he's not as strong as he thinks he is.
BTW, I'm Dominican, my culture uses violence for everything, and it clearly isn't working.

he was very obviously molested by his karate instructor. here's a simple refutation of this FACT. all he has to do is write me a letter explaining that this didnt actually happen. i will claim to have received no such letter.

The fact is, if you are ok with "physically disciplining" kids when they behave in a manner you don't like, you must be ok with your employer disciplining you when you behave in a manner they don't like. Either physical violence works, or it doesn't. Don't tell me it's cool when you do it to someone else, but not cool when someone does it to you.
Sometimes kids 100% deserve a spanking or soap in the mouth, but it should definitely not be the go-to for discipline. I was a really good kid and even I needed to be checked sometimes.

You will never know your limits, unless you push yourself past the imaginary lines you have drawn in the sand.

I experienced years of routine violence growing up, and I became obsessed with martial arts for a while. My story was exactly what he described.
My best friend is a martial arts instructor, dude too experiencef routine violence growing up... Dude has been obsessed for over 15 years.
A former friend of mine is a martial arts instructor... Exactly the same thing, he had a traumatic experience with violence that gave him PTSD. Then he became obsessed with martial arts and became a bouncer too.
A martial arts instructor that I lived with... Dad used to beat the chit out of his mother.... Then he began training Martial Arts, and after his dad began beating his mother one day, he stepped in and had a brawl with his dad.
Whenever I've encountered biographies, interviews, and personally known instructors and fighters... Same story, they have a formative experience with violence.
It's very rare that I have ever known an exception.
I think that Middle and Upper class kids tend not become good fighters for a reason, there's a 'grit' or 'heart' that can only come from a rough upbringing IMO and IME.
I remember Mike Tyson on the Joe Rogan podcast ridiculing his Son's desire to become a world champion fighter...

His upbringing wouldn't have given him the 'grit' that he needed... Tyson knows that.
the association is corollary.
Perhaps.I am talking about people who become obsessed with violence/martial arts... Anyone you know like that, I'll bet money that 9/10 of them had either routine or a traumatic experience with violence.
