The vessel did mayday calls that made it so that the police could stop traffic, however, when the officer went to the construction crews it was too late

was built in the 1970s not that long ago, simple but solidly built concrete base would have absorbed most of the impact and prevented the total collapse….seeing as it is a major shipping lane you'd have thought some cnt would have thought of it

Cargo ships have increased by a massive amount in scale since the 70s.

Bridge code did not require impact design at the time this bridge was built.

Retrofitting is expensive, good luck getting the government to fund something like that for the 1 in 1,000,000 chance that this happens.
