I don’t know where I want to go at 9 now. I wanted Nelson badly but sort of want an impact player now…as in, can close out a game. I would definitely be happy with Nelson tho.
I still want Nelson but i doubt he falls. Jimmy G is our closer.

Bro, are you glossing over everything that’s been stated? It is not all dude to AR15. It’s how things are looking right now.

I’m going to try to remain optimistic, but like I asked above…what nfc playoff team do we have a better roster than? Also, Rodgers is coming back.

We will see if expensive McKinnon, bargain basement injured Sherman and second highest paid center contracts can get us to the next level. The thing is JG and Shanahan will be so good together it will mask the parade of mediocre receivers, unproven TEs and twin RBs we have. I by no means am saying I hate the team etc…I’m saying Lynch has a ways to go to truly earn his position. Jury is still out…that’s all.

Our entire offseason is reliant on this draft and current players taking the next step. It could very well happen…but it could also be a 8-8 season wasted.

I do think it's funny Bears fans are not fans of the AR15 signing and their needs were much bigger than ours. All in how you look at it I guess.

For #9 my guys are Landry, Roquan Smith and Denzel Ward.

Thing is if it ends up being a wasted season who could we have signed in FA who wouldn't have made it a wasted season?

I agree Sherman is still a question mark with the signing but the draft has good corner talent.
I agree that we still have question marks at guard but the draft has great talent a guard

I think even if Foster is suspended for a long time or even cut we can get decent play out of the guys we have with likely some still being added in FA or draft.

Just getting some guys back healthy and seeing our last years rookies come back hopefully even stronger next year will help too.

Hopefully Foster isn't cut, doesn't get a crazy long suspension and keeps his chit together. Sully comes back with an improved pass rush ability. Kittle, Taylor, Bourne, Colbert, Breida, Williams, Pita, Jones and Khello all stay healthy and do really good things out there.

Rams made a huge jump without huge free agent additions and as you said just having Jimmy will make the offense go.

2nd year in the system on both sides will help too.

More likely Smith would be Foster’s replacement.

The more i think about Foster the more disappointed i become. How pretty would
we be sitting if he werent a dumbass?

Our draft talk would be about drafting Nelson, Landry, or Davenport. But now we have to srsly consider R Smith.

Roquan Smith is a stud so he would've been in consideration even if Foster didn't get arrested at all.

I just think Harold Landry is criminally underrated due to how he played last year a season where he was constantly double teamed, schemed away from and playing hurt.

The season he put up as a junior was elite and right up there with Von Miller's best season. I think he's someone who can be coached up and develop more pass rush moves and it's harder and more cost prohibitive to find a top tier pass rusher over a very good LB which is why I'd prefer Landry.

However every time i stop to think about what could be if 49ers weren't fuking idiots off the field it's very sad.

Imagine this team right now if Aldon Smith never had his issues and there were no concerns with Foster getting cut/suspended?

Our defense would likely be the following next year

Solomon Thomas, Earl Mitchell, Deforest Buckner and Aldon Smith
Malcolm Smith, Reuben Foster, Roquan Smith
Ahkello Williams, Adrian Colbert, Jaquiski Tartt, Richard Sherman, K'Wuan Williams/Jimmie Ward as slot corner + rookies

Now that would be a legit defense. Honestly a non suspended Aldon Smith would be a beastly Leo rusher. So frustrating that he threw his career away the way he did.

Good breakdown of Landry.

IMO there's no guarantee he even makes it to us. If the Colts stay put they're likely drafting Chubb but there are teams like Tampa Bay and Chicago who have needs of a pass rusher like Landry as well.

The idea that he's a reach at #9 is silly to me.

Sitton to Miami. So we still don’t have a left guard and right guard is extremely questionable with Garnett.

Pouncey going to be released by Miami. Wonder if we could sign him and have Richburg at RG.

Well chit…lol we just traded Kilgore to Miami.

Kind of cold hearted but it makes it simple with Richburg at center where he belongs.

Yeah would've been nice to get something better than a small move up in the 7th round lol(it wasn't a straight up 7th, we gave up our 7th as well)

It was basically a salary dump and maybe they were being nice to Kilgore letting him go somewhere he had a better chance to start.

They obviously extended him in case they couldn't get Richburg. Atlanta made it a priority to sign Alex Mack when he was available before their SB run and while Richburg isn't on his level it's still a good fit and hopefully he stays healthy and gets back to his pro bowl form. Guy was one of the best centers in the NFL before some injuries.

Apparently Kilgore asked to be traded since he would be losing the job at center. He gets a chance to start in Miami and gets more money without that CA tax.

Good signing. If he stays healthy he can be a player…just hasn't been able to do that.

There's a gif out there of him totally blowing up Fusco and pressuring the QB. I'm talking brutal shot…

Got this off of NFL.com draft site regarding Jermiah Attaochu:

"This is why the Chargers moved up. He is the last of the true 3-4 outside linebackers in this draft. Attaochu can play inside or outside or with his hand in the dirt. I love his motor, and he makes plays everywhere." – Mike Mayock

Overview

Born in Nigeria. Went to high school in Washington D.C. Played his first three seasons as a 3-4 outside linebacker for defensive coordinator Al Groh. As a true freshman in 2010, played 12 games (started Independence Bowl against Air Force) and recorded 23 tackles, four for loss and three sacks. Did not play against Wake Forest (groin). Started all 11 games played in '11, tallying 59-11.5-6 with two pass breakups, an interception and two forced fumbles. Did not play against Maryland and Virginia while nursing a high ankle sprain. Started all 13 games in '12, producing 69-12-10 with a pass breakup and a forced fumble. Did not play against Middle Tennessee State (chest). As a senior in '13, played defensive end in Ted Roof's 4-3 scheme and posted 45-16-12.5 with two passes batted down and a forced fumble. Team captain. Owns Georgia Tech's career sacks record with 31.5, which ranks fifth in ACC history behind Chris Slade, Reinard Wilson, Peter Boulware and Greg Ellis. Did not work out at the combine because of a left finger injury (medical exclusion)

Analysis

Strengths Good burst off the snap. Heats up the edge and runs the arc. Quick inside move. Disruptive ability. Motor runs hot – keeps coming after the quarterback and chases hard from the back side. Moves well laterally and can zone drop. Has experience in even and odd fronts, having played defensive end and stand-up linebacker. Power-leverage potential. Mature and intelligent. Cares about the game and prepares like a pro. Arrow pointing up (will be a 21-year-old rookie). Ran extremely well and registered a 37 1/2-inch vertical jump at his pro day.

Weaknesses Needs to get stronger (opted not to bench at pro-day workout). Gets knocked around at the point of attack. Controlled by larger blockers when they get their hands on him. Still developing pop and violence in his hands. Still learning to incorporate power into his rush (more effortful than powerful). Needs to cultivate his pass-rush arsenal. Marginal 20-yard shuttle time (4.68 seconds), indicating tight hips.

Draft Projection Rounds 2-3

Bottom Line Attaochu is a young, heady, disruptive, relentless edge rusher who profiles as a 3-4 right outside linebacker. Interviewed well and has the look of a trustworthy, long-term starter given his pass-rush ability, motor and makeup. Needs to get stronger, but impressive display of speed, athletic ability and explosion will enhance draft standing.

I hoping for that. Some team might get desperate to move up to our spot, we get better picks, go down a few spots and landry is still there.
I could see maybe a team to try and jump if Mayfield is still there. Miami, maybe Buffalo make an attempt to take Baker.

My new mock post free agency. Using nfldraftscout big board to keep myself honest.

I usually try to keep myself from predicting trades but when I saw them list Courtland Sutton at #54 with our 2nd rounder being pick #59 I figured if he was that close we'd make the move up to get him.

1. Harold Landry - Sam/Leo- plays Sam LB on base downs and comes down as Leo in obvious pass situations until he puts on weight and shows strong ability to defend the run then moves to full time Leo
2. Courtland Sutton - WR - we trade up to get a tall receiver to give us a redzone threat and someone to develop to give Kyle his Julio Jones. I'd be surprised if he's around this late though after his combine numbers
3a. Frank Ragnow -G/C- it was between him and Braden Smith but Ragnow can play G and C at a high level
3b. Kolton Miller -OT- developmental OT who gives us flexibility with Trent Brown and Joe Staley getting older. Good scheme fit for Kyle.
4. traded to get Sutton
5. Tarvarus McFadden -CB- Once considered a top corner in this class this guy's stock is falling, not sure he'll be available this late but I thought he was too good to pass up here. Has the size we're looking for and is good in press.
6. Dorance Armstrong -Leo- Another guy I felt was too good too pass up where he was listed.
7a. Ito Smith - RB - depth at RB and someone who I think is a sleeper in this RB class. Think he's falling way under the radar
7b. Armani Watts -S- surprised to see him this low but gives us depth at safety and a good special teams player at worst

I would've liked to address corner earlier but hopefully adding Landry and Armstrong improves our pass rush enough that the guys we have back there look that much better and Sherman is healthy enough to even come close to what he was with Seattle.

That would be awesome but I think Sutton goes in the first or early second. Drafttrek, WalterFootball, nfldraftcountdown, Matt Miller all have him top 32.

Here is my mock I just did:

Only trade I have is Buffalo moving up to #5 and getting a QB. Obviously I have no clue who each team likes at QB so you can change the QB names around all you want but I think 4 QBs will go before the 49ers pick at 9.

1. Clev - S Darnold
2. NYG - J Rosen
3. NYJ - B Mayfield
4. Clev - S Barkley
5. Trade (Buff) - J Allen
6. Ind - B Chubb
7. Bucs - Q Nelson
8. Bears - M Fitzpatrick
9. 49ers D Ward – Not my first pick but the more I think about it the more it makes total sense. Pretty much our insurance policy on Richard Sherman. If Sherman comes in and does well then Ward sits and learns from one of the best while also providing excellent depth at a postion we are paper thin at. Roquan Smith, Harold Landry, Marcus Davenport all made sense here too but its going to come down to who has the best grade and I have a feeling its Ward.

Rest of the 49er draft:
59. Braden Smith or Frank Ragnow, OG – whichever is available. Ragnow would play guard.
70. Lorenzo Carter, Edge – might not last until pick 70 but various big boards have him around here.
74. Fred Warner – solid LB prospect who can cover
128. Geron Christian, OT
143. Isaac Yiadom, CB
184. Korey Robertson, WR
No clue after this pick

I'd be good with that draft. I'm a big Ward and Carter fan. Smith or Ragnow would be a terrific pick in the 2nd round. Also like the Robertson pick late. He can be a nice late round gem.

If Sherman can be 85% of his old self we could have a legit good secondary. Especially if Witherspoon gets better.

Add in the possibilities of Foster getting his sh*t together, Thomas living up to his potential and getting a pass rusher in this draft, we actually have hope of being a solid defense this year. Still don’t have a nickel corner though.

We should sign Terrelle Pryor to a 1 year contract.

Whats wrong with K'waun Williams at corner? I thought he played well last year. I agree with everything else you said. I'm actually thinking the Jerimiah dude we got from the Chargers will really do well as a pass rusher if healthy. Him and Marsh seem like they will be our speed rushers.

Going into the draft aside from guard I don't think we have many glaring holes. Sure there are some positions we can upgrade and of course we need depth at a few spots but we are sitting ok in year 2 of the rebuild. Kind of amazing if you think about how our roster looked before Kyle and John took over.

I still think our roster is weak and Jimmy G covered up a lot of holes. Obviously a good QB can do that but I’d rather not put all the weight on his shoulders otherwise we’ll be the Packers at best.

I wouldn't count on Marsh and Attachou as legit pass rush options. Sneezeman has a chance to do some good things but he hasn't been able to stay healthy so we can't ignore the need at a legit rusher.

It's why Landry is my clear #1 at this point.

However because we're picking at #9 and not #2/3 like last year we can take some risk or at least have some other options.

Roquan Smith
Denzel Ward
Minkah Fitzpatrick

Any of those guys and I'm really excited.

Honestly there aren't many guys projected in the top 15 who I would have a major issue with. Even guys like this I could talk myself into being excited with the pick

Derwin James - don't think we need safety but the dude is a stud
Tremaine Edmunds - he scares me because I think he's all athlete and not enough football player but he's a hell of an athlete and still young so he could certainly develop into a football stud
Marcus Davenport - another guy that scares me but he's got JPP potential in him

And a few other guys.

I think my issues would be more position wise…like drafting WR that high or even RB. If Barkley fell a part of me would want us to pass on him though the talent is a must draft at that point IMO.

Our roster still has a ton of holes imo. But hoping young guys or some vets step up to prove me wrong.

My issue is the defense at this point. Kyle and Jimmy can cover up stuff on offense with scheme and ability.

Defense needs talent though. Most likely Foster is suspended for probably half the season if not more but I think we can get by without elite linebackers in his absence.

I'm expecting the DL to step up with development from Solomon Thomas, Buckner and others and hopefully a legit pass rusher like Landry.

I'm excited about our safeties and if Sherman can step up I agree this D can do a pretty good job out there but pass rush is key! Have to find a way to get it going consistently. Hopefully without blitzing.

****n Cowherd keeps saying we really want Ward. He’s friends with Lynch so I believe it.

I would be really happy with him but I really want us to trade back if we can. We know Cleveland and NYJ are taking QB’s. Still think there’s a good chance the Giants take a QB. Buffalo and Arizona will probably be trying to trade into the top 10. Denver will take a QB if the one they like is there. We might get really lucky and 4 QB’s could go before we pick and we might have someone sitting there nobody was expecting.

If we can trade back with Arizona and get their 2nd rounder and another pick and get these three picks:

15. Harold Landry, EDGE
47. James Washington, WR
59. Billy Price, G
