These are nice. It's easy to go overboard with editing but sometimes you end up with an image that doesn't look realistic.

I would probably pull back the exposure to preserve a little more detail in the highlights however what you captured is very close to what it would look like standing there.

Curious about f/2.8 on the first one. Did you use a polarizer?

Thanks Dom!

Yeah, i do need to calm down with the editing a bit. I guess its way too easy to go overboard, especially with fun landscapes that are just there to pick around at.
That's a very good idea, it'll something i'll look to do when i get home.

Actually, I was switching between going handheld, shooting people on the path (that asked for their pics), and working with one tripod with my hiking buddy, so that must've been a misconfig. I probably should of done 8 at a higher SS.

Thought you did a great job. Just to clarify, I wasn't critical of the editing at all. They look realistic and not overdone. A polarizing filter would help cut down on some of the glare on the rocks but sometimes a little glare can reveal more texture and add something to the shot.

Unrelated but I just found out Paul C. Buff passed away back in March. I was going to write him a letter with a design suggestion but there's no point now. I'm sure a lot of photographers in this thread have used his products which offered value for money years before cheap Chinese products flooded the market. I still use Cybersync triggers for flash which have never failed me. Never jumped on the PocketWizard bandwagon.

That reminds me, I need to order his fancy trigger, the one where you can control the Einstein light remotely. With low ceilings, the back of that damn strobe is usually somewhere out of reach, and it would be nice to be able to adjust it without lowering the damn stand every time.

Anyone else using Amazon cloud storage for their backup? The basic service ($12 a year for 5GB, if you're a Prime member you already have it) includes unlimited photo storage, which also includes RAW files . I'm currently in the process of uploading 1.2TB.

Just came back from my west coast trip! I only have a few pics from now but I'll post more later. I drove around 6 different states, 3500 miles in a little over two weeks. Took almost 2k pics after all was said and done

Antelope Canyon by Llama brah , on Flickr

DSC01610 by llama brah , on Flickr

DSC01477 by llama brah , on Flickr

DSC01590 by llama brah , on Flickr

DSC01461 by llama brah , on Flickr

Antelope Canyon is almost dreamlike, too bad the Navajo people who "own" it are running a scam there, you have to pay 8 dollars just to park and then park an additional $40 for their "tour" if you want to use a tripod you have to pay twice that to take their "photographers tour" Still worth visiting it tho, scam and all.

Camped in Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Arizona, Big sur, Colorado and visited some towns and cities in between had a great time and liked all the places I went. Except for LA which seemed like a twilight zone city filled with crazy homeless people and the like
When you come to think of it, almost all human behaviour and activity is not essentially any different from animal behaviour. The most advanced technologies and craftsmanship bring us, at best, up to the super-chimpanzee level. Actually, the gap between, say, Plato or Nietzsche and the average human is greater than the gap between that chimpanzee and the average human.

It's an impressive little unit which also serves as a light meter and monitors the color temperature of your lights.

It's easy to take for granted what Buff offered before the wave of cheap Chinese junk where there was next to no competition. I mean even right now what else with 640 Ws offers a 9 stop range for $500? That's less than a Nikon SB-910 speedlight.

And "Made in the USA" still means something to me. Customer service is still the best in the business with real people on the end of the phone. You're not waiting for an email from a kid in Hong Kong who won't return calls. Hope the company continues to do well in his absence.

Stellar photos bro! I was there about 3 weeks ago, just a week before you. Was at another Canyon and Zion the morning before those flash floods came through and killed a bunch of people. Nature is a bitch. You got some good shots in the Canyon, I had a hard time with the amount of people running around, also I have not dealt with low-light situations as much, I am still post-processing the photos.

But on a side note, the Navajo people are not scamming anyone. The land belongs to them, they don't have to let anyone on it if they didnt want too, but they use it as a way to generate money, they make a killing on it, I would agree, but you admitted yourself it is dreamlike, what is $48 for a dreamlike experience? You'd be hard pressed to find anything similar for free. Also based on how royally ****ed the native americans have been, I don't think its a huge deal to let them have this one. Someone needs to monitor traffic through these areas, and keep them protected in a sense, otherwise you would have kids with graffiti drinking beer in the canyons, ruining it really.

Also the photography tour is well worth the additional money, I had opted for the middle package, which included a tour of another slot canyon, it lacked the rays of sunlight you get from Antelope during prime time, but was well worth the money, and preferred it to the jam packed antelope canyon. It ran about 150 in the end, but If I had a do-over I would've taken the 200 dollar tour, which included three additional canyons apart from antelope, one of which has families of owls that inhabit it.

No doubt. I've only had to call them once when I was gonna return a light to get the Einstein, and it was just like everyone says: no problems whatsoever.

I am a long time lurker of these forums and this thread finally inspired me to post. I started to get into photography some and want to get better. Some of the pictures posted here are amazing. What do you guys typically use for editing? Lightroom, photoshop, or both? If you use photoshop, what are some of the different techniques that you use on most photos?

Both. Healing, cloning, dodge and burn. I only shoot portraits, though.

As much as I like the look of window light I prefer a circular catchlight where possible so I can see the appeal of an octabox. Outdoors I still like to bust out a large shoot-through umbrella when there's no wind. They're just too convenient and spill really isn't an issue when you're already working with a lot of ******t.

I've finally settled on a location rig that will do everything I need. You can now get 360 Ws bare bulb speedlights sold under a bunch of Chinese brands. That's more power than an AB B800. Run two and you've got over 700 Ws. Profoto have a speedring that can take a pair which fits their 5ft octabox. Now the best part is the battery pack. Weighs only 500g so you can conveniently hang it off a boom or stand and will pop almost 2000 times at full power. Recharging only takes 3 hours.
