Just watched it... actually have to agree with OP. 3/4 of the film was trash. It started to get a bit exciting when Snoke was turned into salami... then I was confused, why was this supreme leader, who was built up as such an ultimate and powerful being in Force Awakens, is given less than 10min air time and then killed without any explanation.
I came into this film thinking there'd be more back story to it, but it was poorly done.
Also, I love Mark Hamill, but his acting seemed weird...
Overall, didn't rate the movie.
PS: These companies have billions of dollars, what the fk is with the crap CGI?
2 specific scenes which were really badly edited was when Luke and Rey are on the edge of the cliff and it's a distance shot of them. It looked like bad green screen - you could see the shadow outlines on them.
Second bit is when Rey uses force power to lift the boulders at the end - it looked really really bad...

In this abomination Rey has parents who are nobodies, she's a nobody and yet she learns to use the force. Not only learns it but masters it quicker than Luke, quicker the Kylo who is a descendant of Skywalker.
She beat up Kylo in TFA, she put it over Luke in a light spar in this crap.
Leia also becomes a powerful force user out of nowhere, we know she knows the ways of the force because of her bloodline but bloody hell LMAO.
What's the point in episode 9? We already know nobody is beating Rey.
LOL @ people saying there is no agenda in these new SW films, have a word with yourselves.

The only director I have faith in is Taylor Sheriden. If you haven't, go rent "Wind River". 10/10 movie. Sheriden is 3 for 3 with his movies.

This movie killed it for me. I certainly will not be anticipating the next movie. And i certainly wont be rushing out to see it on the first day. I'll wait and see what others say and either not watch it at all or simply watch it online somewhere. Surely they had to of screened this movie and got negative reactions. You'd think a franchise that big and so iconic would of went back and did a reshoot. I'm sure the actors would of been for it considering the quality of these films can make or break their career.
For instance, World War Z with Brad Pitt ... the did a screening ... decided the last half of the movie (post Israel) was crap and decided to reshoot. If a no name movie like that can do such a thing, you'd think Star Wars would.

I sincerely hope that JJ Abrams can basically fix everything that this movie failed miserably at.
Maybe Snoke returns from force land and Luke does as well to battle him. Maybe Rey gets molly-whopped by Kylo at the beginning of the next movie, only to then have her real past/parents/lineage revealed, which sparks a new Rey, and she comes back and helps Luke beat Snoke and Kylo.

Lawls ... I'm enjoying reading peoples reviews on the movie. This one from IMDB is gold and in true misc'er style:
Wow, the lackluster trailers failed to give me any hype for this, so I wasn't even expecting much, but this, this is a new definition of "low".
Virtually everything in this movie is outright bad. The plot is disjointed and stupid. The action is bland, the space battles lack in scale and logic, with 1 fighter being able to destroy all of a huge dreadnought's cannons. As for lightsaber duels, well, there ARE NONE FOR F**K'S SAKE! And the one fight using sabers has horrible choreography that is nowhere near the spectacle of acrobatic battles of the overly-hated prequels.
The characters also f**king suck, both old and new.The largest new addition is an ugly fat (I mean, body-positive) Asian chick who is extra-annoying. As for the old ones, Kylo and the Ginger still act like hysterical children whereas our Wonder-Girl can still do amazing feats of the Force with no prior training, like holding a ton of boulders like it ain't sh*t.
The huge problem is that Episode 8 has managed to blatantly flush the intriguing stuff from Force Awakens down the toilet. Big SPOILERS ahead.
Made theories about who is Snoke? Nevermind, he is just a CGI model with no backstory who dies after a stupid cliche villain monologue.
Thought Phasma would be an actual character, a leader of the stormtroopers? Nah, she is just an extra who also wastes the chance to kill off the heroes to die in an utterly stupid way.
Hoped that Luke would kick some ass for the old times' sake? WELL HELL NAW BOY HE'S JUST GONNA MAKE SOME F**KING HOLOGRAM OF HIMSELF AND THEN DIE OF NOTHING!!! (How the sh*t would he even make that "hologram" on another planet with the Force?)
Theorized as to who would be Rey's parents? Lo and behold, they are noname off-screen motherf**king bums.
Sounds amazing right? To add to that there's garbage like:
Boring talks about Hope and Resistance;Yoda's cameo who looks like a plastic piece of **** from the old movies, talks nonsense and somehow spawns a bolt of lightning even though Force ghosts have never been able to interact with the physical world before; A space casino which looks like a normal Earth casino but with some silly creatures; Leia survives in outer space and flies like Superman though she has never displayed any knowledge of the Force except for some connection with Luke;A lot of sugar-cutie (ice foxes) and disgusting ("Porgs", that thing with nipples) creatures designed so the incarnation of Satan aka "Disney" would sell merchandise; The annoying Asian prevents Finn from stopping the ram thing for no reason.
This isn't even close to everything wrong with this movie, just what I remember off the bat. It's one of the two films that I've ever given a 1/10 to (the other being Movie 43) and the single worst movie in the Star Wars franchise.I now have zero willingness to see Episode 9 or that trilogy that will be written and directed by this movie's creator, Rian "worthless f**kbag" Johnson.

I knew it would suck ass. Disney is in the business of making continuous money through sequels and remakes. You think they would keep good ole Luke Skywalker around when Mark Hamil is old and his appearances are pricey? They are paying the new actors peanuts and those actors are hungry to do sequels.

I can appreciate aspects of what's being said here. I'm an older fan with an emotional investment in the original trilogy. I tried introducing my nieces and nephews to the original trilogy and they couldn't really get interested. The new trilogy, on the other hand; has their undivided attention. They didn't care about Luke at all. Poe Dameron they liked. Rey they liked. Finn they liked. Han? Who's that? In talking with co workers, their children react in a similar way.It's my sincere belief that older fans and fans of the EU are no longer considered a sustainable demographic. It's our children that are now that focus.For good or ill, the characters and mythology that made us fans is being swept clean so that a new generation will have an unencumbered mythology of their own. Characters they can identify with. Mythology they think is cool. This in no way prevents us from continuing to enjoy the Star Wars films and novels that make us happy. I'm not bitter. It is what it is.

Its horrible story telling, poor character development, too politically correct, Rey is too perfect, she was sold off by her parents, and she can fend for herself, doesnt need training, doesnt depend on anybody ESPECIALLY any man young or old (Luke) and is all powerful and perfect? Though JJ uses a lot of snap zooms in his movies. For example, in Star Trek when the three are free falling towards Vulcan the camera is at first far away and we see them from a distance but then it does a snap zoom so that the audience actually sees them. Wes Anderson uses them too for a comedic/dramatic effect.
