Okay cool. So when it comes to Ukraine it seems to me that Russia started all this chit as they were the aggressors.

Ukraine does have a valid reason for wanting to join NATO, but besides the US, no one else actually wants them in NATO (and maybe not even them), especially us Euro countries, who would have a powder keg ready to blow at any time. Sucks to be them, but everyone would be better off if the area stays a neutral buffer zone. See how Germany refused to provide any supplies or support.
Russians and Putin are dikheads, but NATO/US has been baiting them long enough. Nobody needs this.

Correction to some posters above: Ukraine wants to join Nato but they have not been given the green light.
Russia’s actions will make other neighbouring countries to Russia want to join NATO.

Issuing sanctions and strongly worded letters after a couple thousands die on the Ukrainian/Russian sides is one thing, risking all out war with Russia - especially over some bs casus belli/false flag - is a whole another dimension.

Preferred solution? Not sure, possibly not building up NATO military resources in the area to this extent and leaving Ukraine as neutral.
Honestly I have zero idea how this will turn out. I'm hopeful, seeing how currently both parties try to resolve this via diplomatic ways, but looks like neither side wants to actually budge.

Britain Says Moscow Is Plotting to Install a Pro-Russian Leader in Ukraine
https://archive.ph/f6QpJ
KYIV —The British government said Saturday that the Kremlin was developing plans to install a pro-Russian leader in Ukraine — and had already chosen a potential candidate— as President Vladimir V. Putin weighs whether to order the Russian forces amassed on Ukraine’s border to attack.
The highly unusual public communiqué by the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, issued late at night in London, comes at a moment of high-stakes diplomacy between the Kremlin and the West. Russia has deployed more than 100,000 Russian troops on Ukraine’s borders that could, according to American officials, attack at any moment.
“The information being released today shines a light on the extent of Russian activity designed to subvert Ukraine, and is an insight into Kremlin thinking,” Liz Truss, Britain’s foreign secretary, said in a statement. “Russia must de-escalate, end its campaigns of aggression and disinformation, and pursue a path of diplomacy.”
The communiqué provided few details about how Russia might go about imposing a new government on Ukraine, and did not say whether such plans were contingent on an invasion by Russian troops. British officials familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the intent was both to head off the activation of such plans as well as to put Mr. Putin on notice that this plot had been exposed.
In Washington, officials said they believe the British intelligence is correct. Two officials said it had been collected by British intelligence services. Within the informal intelligence alliance known as “Five Eyes,” Britain has primary responsibility for intercepting Russian communications, which is why it played a major role in exposing Russian interference in the 2016 elections.
Emily J. Horne, the spokeswoman for the U.S. National Security Council, said in statement that “this kind of plotting is deeply concerning. The Ukrainian people have the sovereign right to determine their own future, and we stand with our democratically-elected partners in Ukraine.”
But the Russian foreign ministry denied the British accusation.
“The spread of disinformation by the British foreign ministry is one more piece of evidence that NATO countries, led by the Anglo Saxons, are escalating tensions around Ukraine,” it said in a statement. “We call on the British foreign ministry to stop its prevocational activities.”

We'll probably see the reports of Russian troop movements go up this week. Much of the needed ground warfare hardware/material is already pre-positioned close to Ukraine but there still needs to be more troop movements to those locations.
There has already been some interesting ones over the past week but in the coming week it'll go up.
There is of course still the possibility of a negotiated settlement or that Putin is in some way convinced to do something else, but as of right now an invasion is far more likely than not, and around the first of February.
The fact that NATO/Western governments are pulling their people from Ukraine and sending out travel advisories is just one set of signs among a great many others that it's likely at this point.
...
It may be time to start a new mega-thread on the Russia-Ukraine situation. If it looks like a good point this week I may do it myself unless someone else starts one.

You have half of Ukraine pro-Russia; and the other half anti-Russia. Some of they want NATO, others don’t, others want to be left alone.
(Keep in mind that many people speak Russian in Ukraine, and have close ties)
No one is good and bad during this - but both sides are having issues. Russia definitely doesn’t want to have any enemy near their border; but NATO doesn’t want Russia to annex Ukraine and gain more land, resources, and sources closer to EU.
Then you have people who are for this war - which is even worse. It creates a waste of resources, time, energy, and spending.
This can easily be settled, but no one wants to budge - specifically Russia. They don’t want to look weak during this.

There is no regrets, remorse only results in loneliness, only the strong survive and strive through life as warriors
All of us die, some of us kill, even massacre, who wanna try, Abzu will if you ask for it
I'm hazardous to your health and hell is your next stop, for real my sticks cocked
I'm not the one you should be underestimating, come test your fate and I guarantee I'll be under investigation
You can't handle the whole, I'll slam you on your skull or we can go blow for blow like Evander and Bowe
Though I still hold the title, I'm givin all my rivals a chance to dance with Mr. Homicidal
Hand on the bible, I swear to defend my crown, I been around forever but I never let it touch the ground

Boy this is rich coming from Anthony Blinken:
"This is very much part of the Russian toolkit," U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday. "It runs the gamut from a large, conventional incursion or invasion of Ukraine to these kind of destabilizing activities in an attempt to topple the government, and it's important that people be on notice about that possibility."
