1 BuzzBall is fine, more than that and I'll get sick, too sweet, doesn't help it was tequila. As far as people going to other jobs; some retired and just do other jobs for fun/money, some resigned before getting fired for various reasons, most DUIs, some injury so they go into Admin. It depends on the person.
makes sense people leaving corrections for elsewhere, but do you ever come across people from white collar careers moving into corrections?

But another story while I'm typing.
Working D 2 on the floor, my partner is this grumpy ass old man who looks like Eustis from Courage the Cowardly Dog, guy did 20 years in the army and has been a C/O for something like 16 or 17 years now; he has no fcks left to give. But we're sitting at the podium watching the dayroom, nothing much going on, it's a quiet day, when we see one guy giving another a back massage. Well, my partner just yells, full on yells "Stop touching each other you fcking h0m0s!" well, great, guess we're getting our asses kicked today! One of the inmates just yells back "Fck you old man!" Well that went better than expected, figured this guy would have taken a lot more offense to that comment. Loved working with that old man, sht like this was daily with him, he'd walk into a riot like nothing was happening, just didn't give a sht anymore.

Been busy the last few days, OD and a fight yesterday, likely a lot of drunk/high inmates today for the game… but I'll do a story dump tomorrow.
For your time now, the Union gave me a swag bag, one of the items is a blue tooth speaker that looks like our MK9 OC pepper sprays, pretty cool; I'll take more pics of the other sht later if anyone is interested.

i legit thought that was an oc spray can with a company coozie on it lol those are sweet
will be hilarious when someone runs into a fight with one of those thinking its the real thing, especially if it can make noise when the trigger is pulled, like that loud porn moaning meme sound

Anyways I said story dump today but I am shot out. I spent Sunday/Monday dealing with a cell extraction for 10 hours, ~5 of those I was on the cell door talking to the guy, got him to calm down (known him for years) but every fcking time they had someone else come talk to him it made things worse. During a cell extraction usually 2 doctors (one medical and one psych) talk to him, the Sgt, Lt, and the Administrator on Duty (highest rank on duty at any time) need to talk to them. I had 2 partners and myself who could get the guy to chill instead of just screaming he was going to kill us. Every time we got him calm, someone else needed to talk to him and fck me…. back to page fcking 1. In the end we extracted him when he started cutting himself, nothing bad but any self mutilation is a 'we go in now' thing. Then I had to do hours of BS that follows, paperwork, evidence, ect.
Best parts of the day: The inmate told me to stand back when the door was open, he didn't want to hurt me or the 2 who actually just talked to him like a person, and he was sorry it went this way. Then getting handshakes from 3 Lt.'s and 2 Sgt.'s who I have a lot of respect for, that sht is what reminds me of why I do what I do. Not the pay, benefits, none of that. It's the respect my partners give for hard work, being there for people you like (or don't, you always take care of your partners, no matter what), looking out for your partners and knowing they look out for you. You just don't get that from other jobs, I know if I am getting my ass beat I can count on them to be there, regardless of the odds and I'll be there for them. Just don't get that feeling anywhere else.

So… this happened to a Sgt who was my friend but….
An inmate on C yard went to medical, guess he had a bindle of drugs in his ass and he couldn't get it out, he's freaking out because if it bursts he's done. They take him to the body scanner, which is like a full x-ray machine that is real time, and they see a bindle that is enormous, like close to the size of a soda can. Our ISU (investigative services unit) is happy as hell, this is a huge bust for them! They send the guy to an outside hospital to remove the bindle, and when it's taken out… it's not drugs. Nope, guess this guy got pranked, no clue why they did this but the inmates told him he was hiding drugs…. nope.
Wait for it… it was a summer sausage, like a whole god damn 5-6 inch long, 2 inch thick summer sausage they had wrapped in plastic wrap. Funny as hell, ISU was all butt hurt (not as much as the inmate) that it wasn't drugs; inmate rolled up to SNY after this, pretty much said fck this.
Gotta love the sense of humor the guys who got him to do this had though.

So the other week, working with a new C/O and she needs to run some paperwork to each building, she goes to walk to the buildings and we tell her to take the golf cart. She says she can't, she doesn't know how to drive a golf cart. At first we thought she was fcking with us, but nope, dead ass serious. We're like, it has forward, reverse, and neutral… how can you drive a car but not a golf cart. We had to show her how to drive it, a grown ass adult, how use use a gas and brake pedals.

Been busy but I want to make it up to those who do still enjoy these so I'll try and dump a few today. Just got off back to back doubles, but here we go kids!
On A Yard 1/w (night shift) we make them take down any window coverings on cell doors; it's policy, it obstructs me from having a clear and unobstructed view of the cell, and to be honest, I'm short (5'5", bring it manlet haters) and hate having to stand on my toes to see into a cell. We've been on them for a month with warnings, now write ups start. Most comply, either taking it down when we ask, or just not putting them up, but a few want to fight about it. OK, lets fight. One caveat, they can put a window cover up if they are using the bathroom, but it can only be the size of 2 sheets of toilet paper.
Anyways, doing count last night and one of the holdouts has his window cover up, maybe 2/3ds of the window covered. I tap the window and say to take it down, the inmate says fck off… I pull my baton out and smack the door *BAM* take down the window cover….
He jumps up and pulls his pants down and sits on the toilet "I'm using the bathroom!"
Ok, 2 can play this game my friend. I yell, loud as I can, making sure the cameras will pick up what I say (he spoke too quietly to be picked up) "Hey, what are you doing Inmate *name*, you just exposed your genitals to me, what's wrong with you, pull your pants up!" He says he using the bathroom again, but too quietly, so I yelled again "Man, I don't want to see that, dude, pull your pants up!"
He again says he's using the bathroom, too quietly, so I yell "Your getting a write up for that, Indecent Exposure, dude get it together!" An Indecent Exposure (IEX) write up gets you mandatory time in RHU (the hole) and an 'R on your jacket(registered sex offender)' as we call it (sexual offense) on your record for life, so you're now a sex offender. This never goes away, not over time, if you parole and come back, nah it's for life….
I can play games too *******.

Same double shift as above, but on my first shift, the 3/W (1400-2200) shift in D 5, we got a new guy in that day and he was a spinner, legit crazy and should hve been EOP (Enhanced Outpatient Program) which we are not designsted to house. However some slip through the cracks, and he is one. He spends all day on the dayroom pacing back and forth, yelling, ducking and dodging like he's in a boxing match, and pointing a finger gun at people and shooting at them (bang bang noises and everything). Weird as fck, but whatever, see this often enough so we ignore it.
We do an inline and outline, then my partner and I do a security check (body check, make sure no one is ODing, hanging, whatever, done every hour); as I am walking the top tier near cell 226 he is walking at me, so I tell him "Hey guy, don't be on the top tier, and definitely not when I am not doing a security check!" He just says OK and goes down the stairs, but when my partner and I are at the podium we notice his pacing gets closer and closer, and closer still to us. The he starts trying to go behind us, closer and closer, we always spin in our chairs to keep him in eyesight.
This goes on for maybe an hour, we finally stop him and tell him, "Two choices, lock it up (go into your cell) or handle it now." He looks at us and just turns away and goes to his cell, well fck, no fighting tonight I guess.

This happened to a friend of mine but it was fcking hilarious. We had an inmate in D 3 who was not all there, guy was legit kinda crazy and loved to touch his dick and expose himself to staff; well we frown upon that so they wanted to write him up for indecent exposure but they also didn't want to put a female in that position. So enters my friend. They switch him and the female c/o out for the shift and tell him that if the inmate exposes himself to write him up and be very detailed since they want this to stick; once you get a solid Indecent Exposure write up we can keep you in an Indecent Exposure Suit (IEX) which is pretty much a canvas jumpsuit that we lock from the back with padlocks that keeps you from being able to show your junk, kind of a bitch for us too since we have to ask you every hour if you need to use the bathroom.
Well they do an outline and my friend is in the control booth, he pops weenie wackers cell door and the guy walks out, fully naked with a raging boner; he then makes eye contact with my friend and does the helicopter with his dick. He does this for a full on minute while my friend tells him over the PA to go back into his cell. The inmate does and as my friend is doing the write up they are fcking with him, the Lt says to specify which direction the guys dick was spinning, how many gyrations he made, ect…. one of the funniest reports I have ever read, they even made him put how the guy maintained eye contact, it almost read like a shtty teen love novel.

Another IEX story, we had a guy in our on site hospital, also liked touching his dick so we put an IEX suit on him; had to pretty much fight the guy for 20 minutes until we get this suit on him. Didn't help none of us had used on before so we are wrestling a naked guy while at the same time trying to figure out how all the 10 or so locks need to be hooked up, not a fun time. We finally get the suit on the guy, good for us and GTFO the cell. We hear the inmate in the cell and we take a look, he's taking a piss, we fcked up on the suit and it pretty much did nothing; the guy wasn't that smart though and he sat there all pissed off because he thought the suit still meant he couldn't jack off, like it was a time out suit or something. Fck it, got the result we wanted, maybe not how we wanted it though.

How strong are inmates? Does everyone in prison know how to fight?

SNY inmates meh, a lot more overweight and out of shape, so it all depends.

Most know how to fight, and plenty good at it, but not everyone; keep in mind most of them have been fighting their whole lives and live in a violent environment, so not professional fighters but they can handle themselves fine.
Depends on the person though, someone in for murder, robbery, gang crimes is much more likely to know how to fight than the guy in for fraud or embezzlement as an example. Surprisingly trans inmates are some of the best fighters I have ever seen, people always try to take advantage of them so they know how to handle themselves.

Have you ever encountered colleagues of yours who you just know they selected that job because they are psychos who enjoy power trips. Like, getting a kick out of abusing prisoners and seeking out encounters where they can use powers.
Do you think if someone can get away with **** like that by saying "oh he attacked me" and using what I suppose is a bias against those prisoners since they are criminals?
Asking for a friend.
