Did all my June 07's get the 607 tattoo that I talked about at our June '07 conference?

This place sucks dead donkey balls. Against my better judgment, I went there with someone I work with because they wished to learn the basics of OL'ing, and I finally had free time that I forgot to fill. So I meet him there and we go upstairs (?) to this trendy little pissy-assed spa with lovely purple upholstery and the faint smell of air-freshener. I think it was jasmine. Some 'music' I never heard of before and hope to never hear again beeped out over the speakers accompanied by the warbling of a coked-up sapsucker. I felt my testosterone levels plummet the moment I entered the door. At the desk I am accosted by some pencil-necked little emo kid (no piercings, but had the hair and the attitude) and told that a one-time session is $5. So the clown who has already thoroughly ruined my day pays up, then the kid goes on about their features, none of which I could care about, until I finally say "If I give you five more dollars, will you stop talking?"

He finally got the hint.

So we go to the power rack area, and of course wait for some chicken-legged moron to finish curling. I then show him (John, moron who screwed up my day) the basics of the snatch and the clean and jerk, with just the bar, and tell him that he will be working on the power snatch first, as it is not only slightly more difficult to learn, but if can learn it, learning the clean tends to be easier. I then tell him to get a broom stick, and he wants to start with the bar. Fine, go ahead. After about 20 failed attempts to complete a power snatch from just above the knee, he gets a broom stick which he can now move slowly and learn the freakin' technique. Go ****ing figure. It takes him about five minutes to get the pull and rotation right. Then I commit a mortal sin, I go and take a weight stick out of the aerobics area.

Oh my stars.

Said emo punk from the front desk tries, and fails, to be assertive: "Those need to stay in the aerobics area."

Me: "No one is using them, there are four people in here, one of whom is me, the other I am coaching, and two are on treadmills. I had no idea I was interfering with anyones training."

Him: "Our policy . . . "

Me "Look, five minutes will not hurt anyone, now, will it?"

He struggled with this revelation, and finally said ok.

Now John was finally able to persevere in the face of this heinous assault, and with a succession of heavier bars, was able to get the basics of the lift down in about fifteen minutes. At the end of which he was sweating like a pig. People who have never done the quick lifts have no idea how much they take out of you. Fast forward to the bar. To get the catch down, he had to learn to push jerk it from behind the neck, and was finally able to coordinate the pull with the dip and catch ('receiving').

We take a break, during which time I am approached by some little plastic-desk princess about their services again. I avoid the obvious comment, and made an attempt to listen for all of ten seconds, until I realized she was offering me a tanning package.

Me: 'Do I look like I need to tan?'

Her: 'Well it looks like you tan regularly, so I thought I would offer . . . ."

Me: "No."

Her: "But I tan, and you are a lot darker than me."

Me: "Appears as if the service you are attempting to sell me does not exactly work to well, now, does it?"

Her: "How come you are darker than I am?"

Now I cannot believe the idiot actually asked me this, however, I feel the need to give an answer: "I picked the right parents."

She actually stopped to think about this, then made some comment about if I changed my mind . . .

Yeah, whatever. Idiot. <silent>

On to squatting. John said he knew how. He was wrong. He knew how to power curtsy. He could not get the concept down, again, so I set up a platform and taught him how to box squat with just the bar, this took all of maybe ten minutes, and he complained the entire time about his knees. Told him the standard issue lines about how squatting recruits more of the hamstring, which protects the patella tendon, etc. and then ask him if he has an injuries. "No, they just started bothering me since I have been squatting."

Me: "If you had been doing it right, you would probably not have problems."

Back to squatting. I let him try a couple of heavier weights, and he works up to 135. However, apparently dropping the bar is akin to breaking the seventh seal, however, we did not get the promised silence for about an hour. Oh wait, that was in heaven, and this was hell. My mistake. Accompanied by his cloud of angst, desperation, and despair, the emo kid comes up, does the pee-pee dance, and says "If you drop the bar again I have to sound the alarm."

Now I saw the damn thing, and read about on here I think, but I thought it was a joke. So much so that I say "What?"

He then explains it is his sacred duty (this part was evident from the religious fervor with which he said "Alarm" in a breath of freakish ecstasy) to sound the alarm when people violated certain policies.

Me: "Is this your way of getting back at athletes like me for taking your lunch money?"

Him: "It is our policy." - oh, there's that word again.

Me: "Why would you disturb everyone even further? This just increases everyone's risk of injury?"

Him: "Well, if you were not doing dangerous lifts, I would not have to do it."

Me: "Are you aware that OL'ing has a lower injury rate than PL'ing, both of which have a lower injury rate than bodybuilding? Numerous studies, including a couple in the JSCR and at least one other in MSSE show this."

Him: "Well our policy . . . "

<snap>

Me: "Look kid, if you disturb me again, for the ten remaining minutes I am here, I am going to look up your insurance carrier, and write them from my attorney's letterhead showing the dangerous practices engaged in here by the staff, including disturbing those who try to train, giving advice which increases the risk of injury, and sounding alarms in violation of your own claims to be 'A judgment free zone.' How long do you think you will have a job after that?"

Evidently this filtered through the miasma of gloom and he realized he would not be able to purchase his monthly supply of razors, black lipstick and nail polish, and tickets to some 'band' who would be great, only if people understood them. He slunk back to his desk.

Then spent ten minutes teaching the good morning, and John asked me if I was available next Saturday. My comment of "I would come back from the dead if someone brought my coffin in here, just to throw myself off of a cliff" appeared to let him know that I was less than amused.

On leaving, the desk emo glared at me. Even that was weak.

I'm here for my annual request for permission to join the OG join date crew.

2010s need to be recognized for their tremendous contributions we have made throughout the past 8 years of misc history. My last year's request was denied, but I'm back. And I will be back every year until 2010s are allowed into the crew.

Lol right? I'm willing to bet not one word of that crap was true.. Probably took him a week or more to cook up that story in the hope that it'd get him some e-cred.

STFU and GTFU

as for Arlechinio, he was actually banned and posting from his GF's account after he was banned. The language was exactly the same, I think her name was GBG but IC would remember better. His writing about lifting and his passion wasn't really bad and he could move some weight, just a poor choice for moderator.
