I was at the game. I didn’t see anyone open on a lot of those plays. Jimmy didn’t play great but receivers weren’t getting open. Wish we had Allen Robinson.

Sherman pretty much locks his side of the field down. But we still have no pass rush.

We have to remind ourselves we are in year 2 of a rebuild a 4-6 year rebuild. We still lack a few pieces (Edge, True #1 WR, OL) and they will haunt us all season. Jimmy G still has the game time experience of a rookie.

I look for the Chiefs to put 40+ on us. We should put 30+ on them as their defense hasn't been all that.

Part of me wants Josh Gordon and part of me knows he can't be trusted.

takeaways from this weeks game:

no pass rush outside of Buckner
terrible protection…6 sacks against
some big holes in pass coverage
red zone issues again

positives:

Breida saved the game
getting Foster back next week
no INTs (thanks to a generous def holding call in the 4th negating a really bad decision throw)
Another well called game, executing the plays is all that stands in the way of the offense going for 40 pts/week against non elite Def
Gould still clutch

True. I still think we can sneak into playoffs this year but ultimately we’re nowhere near the rosters of Philadelphia, Minnesota or even a team like Chicago. Bears might legit be a SB favorite if they had Jimmy.

Next offseason we absolutely have to find a pass rusher. I’ll gladly take Brandon Graham, who I assume will be Philly won’t be able to afford. But it has to be our #1, #2 and #3 in terms of importance. Stafford had all day.

We need playmakers on offense. We’ll get McKinnon back next year and Kittle is probably an elite talent at tight end but the receivers are so underwhelming.

I really think Goodwin opens everything up. Just have him run down field and he has to be covered or double teamed. That will open a lot of stuff underneath him.

Not sure if we have the juice to sneak into the playoffs this year. A lot depends on our health and development of a long of young players.

But honestly not sneaking into the playoffs wouldn't be the worst thing.

Looking at the remaining schedule and IMO what the likely result is

@Chiefs - L
@Chargers - hard to say right now
Cardinals - W
@Packers - L
Rams - L
@cardinals - W
Raiders - hard to say right now but probably a W
Giants - hard to say right now but probably a W
@Buccs - hard to say right now but I'm leaning L if their offense keeps clicking
@Seahawks - I'd like to say W but Seahawks have had our number, I'll say W for now
Broncos - toss up right now
Seahawks - W
Bears - tossup
@Rams - L

Things obviously change over the course of the season and week 2 is still tough to say where we are. If we held on to win 30-13 I'd feel a lot better about us.

Right now this look like a 10-6 team at best. Probably more of a 7-9/8-8 squad.

Of course this means we have to stay healthy and Goodwin comes back sooner rather than later.

But considering our biggest need is still pass rusher…this is the year a better draft pick would go a long way.

Nick Bosa, Clelin Ferrell, Brian Burns and Montez Sweat are the best guys out there IMO. There will be others and some teams could prefer guys like Ed Oliver, Rashan Gary, Raekwon Davis and other top DTs.

Getting a top 20 pick would be key. We're not getting past the top teams in the NFC so I'd rather we take a baby step forward and hopefully have another great offseason with a great draft and some better pass rushers availabe in the draft and free agency.

Brandon Graham, Dante Fowler should both be available in FA. Maybe even Demarcus Lawerence(can't imagine Dallas lets him go but who knows)

i agree about pass rush.
protection actually wasnt that bad. JG held the ball too long on at least 3 of those sacks(guys were covered), he needs to learn to get rid of the ball or bail the pocket.
Spoon and Colbert have regressed a bit, still young, its to be expected. Overall the team is young and needs to learn how to win, how to close out games, etc.

My biggest concern is that we let them back in the game. It should have been a blowout and we were lucky to come out with a W.

The 3rd and 17 play was simply inexcusable…total turning point of that game.

Yah but the guy actually has to play.

He’s play 11 games or something in 3-4 years.

Can’t piss clean to save his life

Can’t show up to training camp so he can find himself.

Gets hurt on a non-browns promo shoot middle of week 1.

Just saw that… Only for a 5th round conditional? That seems pretty cheap.

Gordon is an intriguing player. tons of talent. i wouldnt have complained if we acquired him, but it would have still been a risk. Even with guys like Garcon, Staley, Sherman, etc idk that this is the type of veteran locker room that could handle a possible disruption like Gordon.

I truly think the NE organization is prob the best place for him to get back to playing football. BB is pretty well known for keeping his guys in line, so Josh better realize that he's gotta walk a tight rope there if he rly wants to continue playing in the NFL.

Curious to see what happens this week. If we can get Jimmy back in a rhythm we should be able to pass the ball around.

Hopefully Goodwin plays and can still run with his quad injury. Foster is back and hopefully doesn't miss a beat. But I am not sure how our oline can hold up to the Bears dline. That will be interesting to watch.

Edited because I am not smart….

Yes we do… I was looking at my fantasy team stuff and somehow mixed that up. I am off to a good start today. Other than that everything still applies.

Harold Landry may haunt me though

He was getting pressure left and right for Tennessee.

Reading the thing about Solomon Thomas' sister I'm not sure if he's all there mentally right now. I still think he can turn into a good player but it must be hard to play all out when you have so much on your mind. Not sure if the coaches realize that and that's why they haven't been playing him much inside or wtf is happening. It's concerning if they think Armstead is a better player.

All eyes on Jimmy, Sunday. The biggest story in the NFL is Mahomes. Jimmy has to keep up with him.

I truly think that Minnesota game affected Jimmy last week. I was at the game and the receivers weren’t getting open but Jimmy has proven he doesn’t need his receivers open, he just can throw them open. After that Minnesota game, throwing 3 picks, receivers running wrong routes and dropping balls…that was his first loss and his first bad game as a pro. I think he came into that Minnesota game with all the confidence in the world, preparing for that game for a while and falling so flat, it had to have hurt him last week. He was just not taking the chances he usually does.

Unfortunately he took that terrible risk at the end that almost lost them the game. Hopefully that play doesn’t keep him down.

Shanahan needs to run some plays early in KC that get receivers open. Get Jimmy confident early. He’s gonna have to ball out to win this game.

Bold prediction is Sherman and Witherspoon each have a pick this game. Jimmy will be fine. If we can jump on them early and get a lead we may be alright. Breida should be able to run and we should be able to score on them, would love to have Goodwin out there 100%. Just happy Foster is back!

Not worried about Jimmy. IMO part of what made him so good last year was because he didn't have time to learn the offense it was a lot more improv and backyard ball.

Now I think he's playing within the offense but may not be at the level of comfort to really react as fast as it should be.

I saw the breakdown of the sacks last week and feel better about them. Maybe he can do a better job throwing things away if they're not there but sometimes you wait it out and maybe the play opens up.

Either way he's shown enough to show me he's legit and just needs time to get to that consistent great level.

Here are the gifs of each sack from the Lions game. Not too much for him to do outside of throwing the ball away.

I'll have to find the other 2. The guys on webzone do a great job of breaking down film and making these gifs.

But not a ton of options for him. One he could've made a throw but all would've been into tight windows.

Hopefully Sherman's heel issue isn't related to his injury last year. We need him healthy…and speaking of which why the fuk can't we get some luck on that front?

Whole secondary is beat up now. Spoon has the ankle, Colbert has either a hammy or ankle, Tartt will probably miss the game with shoulder injury, now Sherm with the heel.

Need our guys to get healthy and stay that way.

Definitely an awful time to be less than 100% in the secondary with a lack of pass rush going into KC which is normally an awful tough place to play, heading into what will certainly be a CRAZY hyped crowd after they went 2-0 on the road in highly impressive fashion.

If we can keep this game close it will be a huge win. I honestly felt better about going into Minnesota. That offense at KC has too much damn speed and Mahomes is playing at an unreal pace right now and I wish we had the pass rush to turn that swan into an ugly duckling but we don't…and we made Stafford look good at home.

I think only way we have any chance to win is straight shootout but we can't have any redzone issues. FGs won't give us a chance to win this one.

I guess the only thing we have to remember is that the guys who make the decisions felt this was simply year 2 of a rebuild. As fans after going 5-0 with Jimmy we felt pretty damn good and thought the turnaround would be extra fast and it still may be but I do think we're a year away. We really need that edge rusher. I thought Sully could have a huge year 2 but that's not happening. Whether due to him just not having the ability I thought he did, whether it's due to him playing with a VERY heavy heart due to his sister(if you didn't read that article, do it…but be prepared for some heavy feels) or just due to coaches asking him to do something that's not his strength.

Chiefs offense has been unreal the last two weeks but it’s obviously a mirage. They have great pieces all over their offense but it’s not the 2007 Patriots. Just need Saleh to figure something out to confuse Mahomes. Sherman will help with that. Problem is we don’t have any pass rush. If we can find a way to win one of these next two games we should be 3-2 going into MNF against Green Bay.
