Never had problems with Federal Lake City

But, even though I swore off winchester years ago, I've had more problems with them than everything else combined. BY a factor of like 10. .22lr, 9mm, .45, .357 Sig, Ranger Talon, Ranger Bonded, all of it. Legit ass 50 round boxes of WWB .357 Sig where like 8/50 were noticeably over COAL and I sent pics and lot # and purchase location info and mic measurements to them and never heard a fuking word.

Failed QC rounds of Ranger Talon ammo, brass deformaties that resulted in feeding failures or recessed primer unreachable by firing pin…nearly squib load from a .40 180gr FMJ that literally hit the target 2 feet low and like 7 yards and didn't move the slide…and they, do, not, care. Contacted them multiple times never heard anything.

Their ammo sucks they know it they don't care

I used to buy the WWB 9mm vaule packs for like $9/100 at walmart, back in the day, but IIRC they moved that manufacturing to a newer cheaper location some time ago and that is when that specific product went down the drain

Federal group is the best manufacturers imo.
They make sooo much quality, cutting edge ammo.
Certainly one of the best in the world.

Is there a better carry load than HST after all these years? Of any caliber?

I don't think so. Not by much anyway.

Yeah, I shot like 20-30k of Federal Lake City and it’s phenomenal.

Nice…same mount I picked. Looking thick, solid, tight.

Any advantage of this one over the “inline”? I couldn’t tell any other than this may be a little beefier and less prone to bending (it mentions the in-line could if any portion sticks beyond the rail…like in your setup)

Question about the CA gun roster

When I was doing my research I thought I saw that no new guns had been added to the roster since the roster was first drafted.

Then I saw some website saying there is some new gun added to the roster recently.

Where they always adding guns to the roster or is this a new thing since that Court Verdict a few months ago?

No, they weren't. Until recently it had been, I don't know, a decade or two or something retarded, since any gun was added.

Then they added a POS gun.

Move out of CA

Nah, BDC is set for M855 and even if M193 and MK262 is vastly superior on soft tissue, penetration is important. M855 is also mediocre for accuracy too. M193 is my bulk plinking ammo.

The Inline must be mounted flush with the rail and not extend beyond it. The SBR one can extend beyond (see my pic). That's the only difference I could tell. I wanted the mount to be further forward and went with the SBR for both rifles because of that.

What kind of penetration are you expecting to matter, and get, from M855? In what context do you expect M855 to perform better than a BHTP/SMK, or a bonded LE/hunting round like Federal Fusion or even an mk318 type?

Much more than M193. I notice wind on M193 at 300 way more than M855 too.

I’m looking for bulk moderately priced ammo. How much is MK318 and where is it available? I’ve never really seen it anywhere.

BC is better on M855, but not significantly. They're both poor for wind deflection.

The only advantage M855 has on M193 is going through a STEEL helmet out to 400 yds. M193 is better in soft tissue, it's not really close.

BDCs are AIDS, learn mils.

I’m just saying for an emergency round to stock up on, penetration matters.

I know M193 chits on it otherwise.

Why does penetration through steel matter on a stock up round? Why would you prioritize that over soft tissue performance?

mk318 has always been low supply and overpriced for what it is, though it's better than the cheap 193/855 for sure.

The most likely place to find it is US Armorment.

The widely accepted stock up round of choice is either M193 if price is that strong of a driver, or IMI Razorcore 77gr SMK. Or Prvi Partizan/PPU .223 75gr BTHP Match.

I realize the reality is that the terminal performance of these is virtually guaranteed to never matter to any of us, because they'll never be used in that capacity. Or if they are, the fact that it's a rifle round means it will do the job, regardless of which one it is. Or, if we use it, and the difference matters, it's going to be that premium stuff in the first mag that's kept in the gun or the first handful of mags kept in the gun + PC/chest rig…not the stuff sitting in the safe or closet.

I just can't see planning to use M855 for, well, anything really, with M193 being basically the same price, or the performance improvement of Federal Fusion or one of the many BTHP/SMK type options

Federal Fusion
mk262
IMI Razor Core
Federal LE223 T3 or LE223T1

It doesn't, and if it did, you wouldn't get what you'd need from 855. It's not armor piercing.

What might you have to shoot through that wouldn't be done better with a bonded round like Fusion, 223T3, TBBC, Gold Dot, etc?

Older post but I don't think anything has changed

https://pistol-forum.com/archive/index.php/t-4344.html

There is a lot there, read it all, but going on the "through something" aspect, and what's realistically justifiable and plausible (auto glass)

"Contrary to what many believe, M193 & M855 FMJ are not very good against glass; the best military 5.56 mm load against glass is 52 gr M995 AP, followed by the 62 gr Mk318 Mod0 OTM and 70 gr Optimal "brown tip" OTM."

How much are all of those per round?

We’re all on the same page, I acknowledge the M855 mediocrity but I value the versatility vs value.

If I'm stocking up for that application I'm buying the fed fusion because it's a bonded bullet. M855 does not do well going through obstacles either.

Yes, I've seen what happens to m193 and m855 is shot through light barriers.

Any barriers that M855 will go through that M193 won't are barriers you don't want it to.

Have a realistic understanding of why you need ammo.

"Stocking up" isn't preparing you for unresupplied perpetual firefights.

It's creating a buffer between you and your dependence on commercial ammo availability to keep shooting.
