Hello everyone :> I had a quick question, why does my monitor flicker pink and black and sometimes green when i start my desktop? i'm using a fairly new hdmi cord, hooked up to a fairly decent graphics card, my monitor is a 4k viewsonic. sometimes i have minimal flickering and other times it lasts for a good 4 minutes. ty for your time :>

Where do you guys think the best place to order a custom GPU backplate is? Didn't care originally because i didn't have a windowed case, but now that i'm getting one i don't want my naked 1070 uglying up everything.

Could be a number of things:
-Possibly a bad HDMI port on either your GPU or the monitor
-Possibly a bad HDMI cable
-Why are you using HDMI? Tried DisplayPort? Are you sure it's an HDMI 2.0 cable and not 1.4b?
-The monitor could be bad/going bad
-You could have a source of EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) somewhere near your HDMI cable which is causing some visual corruption
-The video memory of your GPU could have an issue (colors/artifacting are sometimes signs of bad VRAM)
-Is this flickering/color issue occurring outside of Windows only, or does it continue into the OS? Or is it just in the OS? If it's only in the OS, do a clean driver install
-What GPU do you have? If it's AMD, anything below the RX 400 series does not support HDMI 2.0, so you'd definitely need to use DisplayPort

Start with the simplest solution first: connection/cables. Move around the cable a little and see if that effects or exacerbates the problem. Broken cables or bad connections can sometimes be the culprit. If that doesn't work you can try swapping monitors, if available.

If they are going to use it for business software, get the equivalent Ryzen then for multithreading.
Ryzen R5 1400 is a 4C/8T vs that i5 which is 4C/4T.

This is the same build but with Ryzen CPU and I put an Rx 460 since Ryzen doesnt have iGPU. Then dont buy a $100+ windows. Buy a license key online for like $30.

You could probably save money on the PSU. 650W seems really overkill just using the cpu integrated gfx. Im using a 550w with a 1080

Tried that on the build above but its hard to find something lower than 650 gold+ in AU Pcpartpicker. Even 350w could have been enough if there is.

You don't really need a gold certified psu for that build.

I am running a bronze certified corsair (CX750M) in my build. 980Ti OCed + 3570K OCed.
The only reason I would want to upgrade would be for lower noise.

Ye, thought of that too but just followed what he got on the rest of the build and just change it to Ryzen CPU and MB. It could have been a lot cheaper too.

Bought a used Corsair H75 a while back. I couldn't get a receipt from the seller because it supposedly came in a prebuilt and he hasn't answered me since.

I am wondering if I should just throw it out or whatever... It's kinda risky having that leak potential with no warranty.

Thoughts?
I love the performance, but it's the uncertainty of not being covered if it fails.

I was looking at the Ryzen options, but somewhat wary. If it was for me I'd be all over it but the business stuff is mostly accounting software and spreadsheets, nothing huge really. Even an i3 would probably cover them but had room in the budget so figured why not go a little faster. Will have a look at some reviews though and see.

Picked it as would like a decent quality PSU and it was the smallest once I liked from the couple of stores that are close. I know 450W would be a better choice, and could still handle a mid range video card. Mainly aiming for gear that will be a bit over the top so for day to day it will be silent, and it will last. Rep's all round for the replies brahs.

Not really, but they only upgrade every 5+ years so aiming for something that won't need anything besides a bit more ram and maybe a bigger SSD over that period. Upgrading from a 3 core AMD setup with DDR2 and mechanical drives so a pentium with the slowest SSD you can get would probably be mind blowingly faster, but the old man is happy to spend around that so looking to build a fast and quiet machine with quality parts. Probably swap the case for an mATX one though if it's only going to have 1 or 2 drives and no GPU.

You don't have a licence on the current computer you can transfer over? Why buy a whole new one?

That power supply is completely unnecessary. If you don't have a dedicated GPU, you need 400 Watts at MOST. Just a 380 watt Antec Earthwatts and call it a day, or pay a little more for a 400W Corsair modular unit or something depending on aesthetics.

8GB of RAM is... kind of enough, but not really. Just get a 16GB with room to upgrade to 32GB down the road.

Just had the price for windows has a budget place holder, current one is probably win7.

Agree on the PSU, that was the smallest decent modular the shop had listed in stock, but going to take a look around and probably get one elsewhere. Was hoping to pick it all up at one location to make it easy but you're right, less on PSU and just get the 2nd stick of ram now.

4 slots of memory are supported, so yeah you can just get 2x8GB now with the money you saved from the PSU. Why don't you order the parts online...? Amazon? Or whatever Ozzies have for components that isn't Newegg. A lot more selection there than the site you've been using.

If the PC is going to be "set it and forget it" I'm not sure if you need a modular unit. Depends on a lot of things.

Corsair VS450 I guess is your choice if you don't mind about modular. $70 cheaper lol. There aren't really any good modular options at the bottom end of wattage ratings. But your build without a graphics card needs 200 watts TOPS. Even with several drives. People over-rate their usage by a lot. 750 Watt is enough for like, overclocked 140W CPU, overclocked full size graphics card, max memory, 6+ fans, water cooling, 4-6 harddrives, and all your peripherals. The 750-1000w range is for like dual graphics card setups.

The i5 7400 is only faster than R5 1400 in games mainly utilizing single core but it wont be faster in other applications. R5 1400 scores about the same with i5 7600k in cinebench 15.

The 1400 will be more future proof than the 7400 too. Yes, even the i3 can handle those basic applications but with some browsers open at the same time, it will surely suffer.

Not sure what's to think about, you get a better CPU and you get to put in a dedicated GPU just in case for a cheaper build.

yo brahs. i kinda drafted out these after googling so much **** because the last time i got my own com but was prebuilt by some guy was 2013.

i'll be reusing my hard drives including 1 ssd so i won't be getting new drives at the moment.

wanting to dabble into photoshop, premiere pro and stuffs. i'll be gaming too, but not anal about you know ultra settings on max fps and stuff so i settled on a gtx1070. kinda interesting after watching on youtube the RGB stuffs and they look cool.

would love some inputs especially on the motherboard. i read that the X series are for those enthusiasts that wanna SLI and stuff, don't think i would need that tbh. wouldn't mind dabbling in some oc-ing for fun but i'm not sure if i would even know the difference since i'm not any familiar with it.

settled on the p279q also as it's currently the top choice (?) current monitor is a HPw2228h poverty one.

would appreciate all the constructive criticism, budget wise i don't have a fixed price but hopefully it doesn't exceed the 2k usd much? looking for a keyboard too, currently using a poseidon mechanical keyboard. i like the feel of mechanical keyboard but i'm hoping you guys can give some recommendations, saw some 'high end' keyboards that costs a bomb, not sure if i'm willing to spend that much on a keyboard..

i'll be reusing my hard drives including 1 ssd so i won't be getting new drives at the moment.

wanting to dabble into photoshop, premiere pro and stuffs. i'll be gaming too, but not anal about you know ultra settings on max fps and stuff so i settled on a gtx1070. kinda interesting after watching on youtube the RGB stuffs and they look cool.

would love some inputs especially on the motherboard. i read that the X series are for those enthusiasts that wanna SLI and stuff, don't think i would need that tbh. wouldn't mind dabbling in some oc-ing for fun but i'm not sure if i would even know the difference since i'm not any familiar with it.

settled on the p279q also as it's currently the top choice (?) current monitor is a HPw2228h poverty one.

would appreciate all the constructive criticism, budget wise i don't have a fixed price but hopefully it doesn't exceed the 2k usd much? looking for a keyboard too, currently using a poseidon mechanical keyboard. i like the feel of mechanical keyboard but i'm hoping you guys can give some recommendations, saw some 'high end' keyboards that costs a bomb, not sure if i'm willing to spend that much on a keyboard..
Definitely don't need that monitor. It's a great monitor, but you can save $200 and not notice a difference by going with this one:

ASUS MG278Q

I have that one and absolutely love it. 1440p, 27 inch, 1ms, etc. I have the same video card (1070) and a i7 6700k @ 4.6ghz, and I'm maxing out most games with great FPS on that monitor. Can't say enough good things about it, so I think your setup will get similar performance and put $245 back into your budget.

Personally I use a Razer mechanical keyboard (I know, razer isn't a fan favorite around this board for some reason) but I think it's a great purchase and haven't had any issues. Cost me $115 at microcenter on sale.BlackWidow Chroma V2

As for the motherboard, I'm not too sure. I'll let someone more knowledgeable comment on that end. Besides that, I'd suggest grabbing 32gigs of ram instead of 16. Ram is cheap as hell so its sort of a why not moment. With three monitors I can easily have multiple browsers, Steam, a game, thinkorswim and kodi going at the same time with no performance issues.

Alright misc bros I need some help here before I go crazy.

I have the HyperX Stinger headphones. Worked completely fine, plug and play day one no issues. Been using them for a while here and there. Used them the other night, haven't changed a single thing in any way, today they don't work at all. Didn't even restart the computer or unplug them since they last worked, and they just don't now.

Tried:

Plugging them into the keyboard jack, no good.
Plugging them into the front jack on the tower, no good.
Plugging them into the rear jack on the tower, no good.
Reinstalled the audio driver from the motherboards website, no good.
Completely uninstalled and reinstalled anything related to sound within the device manager, no good.
Went to playback devices, disabled everything else, set them as the default, no good.

I have no clue what to do. They worked fine, with zero issues, and now they don't work at all. MB is the Z170X Gaming7 from Gigabyte. I'll take literally any help or ideas here, as google has thoroughly failed me on this.

Have you plugged them into another device (like your phone, etc)?

Click on speaker icon on the bottom right. Right click and click on Playback devices. Make sure your headphones are set to default.
