Almost time for the Olympics!

Grappling, weightlifting, throwing sports . . .

I love this chit!

Now what am I supposed to do? Watching the predators is more depressing than watching my Devils.

Dammit hockey!

Alright CC I have a serious question. Would you take a serious pay cut to start working in your field even if it's part time? Like I'd but leaving a fairly good position that I am right now but it's not what I want to do and do forever.

Can you afford it? How long before that part time job in your field turns into a full time position? If you're really set on getting into your field you may have to and then just get another part time job on the side to help with bills

With the details you gave, yes.

Are there other factors that might convince you otherwise?

Right now no as I'm on a shoe string budget after nationals. Paying that sh*t off as we speak. I don't know how long it could be a year or could be longer it's really a big gamble. I could possibly get another job but this will be in the states so I'm not sure what my visa allowances would be if I even get one.

Uh yeah a few more factors. This is only a 10 month job and will pay maybe 2/3 less than what I do right now and I will lose benefits along with having to pay rent, expenses, etc. I'll basically be paid enough for food, rent, insurance, gas and maybe a $0.05 piece of candy if I budget well.

Ya that's going to be rough and I can't say I'd do it if I were in your situation. How badly do you need this experience? Do you have previous experience in the field you could use in case another opening comes up? You'd be SOL if any type of unexpected expense popped up unless you did a bunch of cash jobs on the side but Trump will prob shut that down once he's elected.

In before gay 4 pay suggestions

Yeah thinking it over I don't think I will just don't have enough extra funds set aside right now. Better jobs want coaching experience but I'm working with a former Olympian and have been on a national team that should be enough to show I know what I'm doing and talking about. I think the biggest issue is me being Canadian and them having to do extra stuff for a visa. But whatever I'm offering my services up and they go with someone way less talented and dedicated and they never last.

Also may wait until after the election to decide what I do.

I have one year left in the U.S. military. I have been wanting to move to Canada for a while now and it's where I want to go to school. How hard is it, and how long does it take to get a student visa? My family is in Michigan so depending on where I live, I could still be close to them. It sounds really exciting to me. Always loved Canada.

Any of you brahs in the Military? I am currently going to Business School @ Simon Fraser University but have always had an interest in CIA type chit. Since CIA is american, I looked into Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) but these guys only hire the best. My grades arent that bad but they are most def not the best. I was planning on getting into Military Intelligence and then maybe transferring over there. Any CF guys got any advice?

Visa shouldn't be hard to get once you have been accepted into a school you'll need to coordinate with someone from the international office, fill out some forms online and pay some fees and you'll be good to go. I got a visa in just over a week once.

I would still really consider doing it. That kind of experience could lead to a much better and permanent position in a field it seems you very much would like to be in.

I know but I'm into the red right now with my bank account. No way I'll make a move in this situation to a part time job. I am still in the running for a few full time jobs as my application hasn't been rejected yet. But not getting my hopes up.

Top of class and extensive high-profile internships (or relevant work experience) is 100% required. They only hire the best. My buddy is interning with an alphabet agency I can't disclose, as a software engineer. 99% overall undergrad average with 4 years of internships through his program at I B M, Google, Blackberry, etc.

I wouldn't say its impossible but its next to impossible.

From what I've heard, there's more job security (no pun intended) where he's at now. Potentiality for tenured positions, etc. He said google makes a big public show of being progressive and unique but he wasn't impressed

Yeah and Google said they were cutting back on perks (CFO said like 6-9 months ago). But I only care about the fact that you can bring your pupper to work.

depending on position it can pay well but probably not as well as google can but again it depends on position. many government jobs pay very well and sometimes more than private sector pays.

The pay was probably worse but like I said, his intention is for tenure and longterm career development. Much more potential for that in private government than in private general tech (i.e. google, blackberry, etc.)

My cousin was one of those super high security guys (he's American). He left and is now security for a prince and his family (Arabic prince or something, I don't know the details). I honestly feel bad for the guy. He has to live the rest of his life with these fukkin CRAZY monumental secrets that EVERYONE wants to know. And asks about. My aunt got drinking one night and asked him in a bar what he saw while he was there and the entire bar stopped to listen… They had to leave.

Does anyone still lift in here? Or just marcoccia?
