Fuk my life…

The AC went out in my house. There goes $822 to replace the fan motor and some capacitors. I would rather replace everything but I am poor and don't have $8-10,000 for a new system. I pray that this fix can last a few more summers.

Yeah that one sucked, i was super confident for that game. The way our defense and team were setup it seemed like a sure thing.

Learned my lesson after that to never get overconfident.

Grant Cohn @grantcohn

According to a source, Trent Baalke wanted to draft Christian Ponder in 2011 before Jim Harbaugh went to Reno to scout Colin Kaepernick.

We have no idea how Ponder would've turned out if he went here instead of Minnesota. I'm also pretty certain Baalke wouldn't have drafted him in the first round considering he had the opportunity to draft both Gabbert and Ponder that first round and passed.

The fan motor went out and we had to replaced the capacitors to go with it. I am sure I could have found a better deal but with young kids I need it fixed asap.

We were about 90 inside monday night. I called 3 places and only 1 answered. They came the next day at 9. Good enough for me other that spending the money. Hopefully the systems last a few more summers. There is no way I can afford to get a new system.

My A/C went out couple weeks ago but luckily it was just a bad breaker so it only cost $100 total to get it replaced and took about 1 day. Spent the night with a bunch of fans blowing on me.

Kap is not throwing today. Probably won't be throwing all week I would assume. I'm pulling for Gabbert in this QB battle but he's wasting a golden opportunity to take the job.

At this point I'm starting to have more faith in Kap as the better QB and that's not saying much.

Gabbert is staring at a golden opportunity to run away with this job with Kap not throwing and he's actually making Kap look better on the sidelines that's ridiculous.

Like I said before if he can't make the throws which are his bread and butter then what good is he?

Agreed. I'm just not sure if Kap is even good enough to make the read to make the throw. Much less check it down.

Kap is either really hurt or they are just letting him rest. I guess I do not understand much of it. He hasn't thrown for over a week, don't you think by now they would let him start getting some reps. Not a ton but enough to get him in there? I will laugh if Ponder ends up starting over Gabbert and Kap.

Kap was throwing on the sidelines, about 10 yards or so they said. Plenty of people have had this before I am glad they are taking their time with it. I want him healthy and the QB battle to be a battle, not a forfeit. Gabbert had a pretty rough game 1 and against Denver D will be another test.

Whoever wins it I'll root for but I'd prefer Kap tbh. Not a big Ponder fan either.

It is what it is. I don't buy the conspiracy theories floating around about Kap. Dude just has a tired arm plain and simple. Unfortunate for him and unfortunately Gabbert isn't separating himself like I had hoped.

Still excited to see the niners though. No more delay of game penalties!!!

The no delay of games will be nice, seemed like last year we played with pace in game 1 and just abandoned that after. We know this year that won't happen.

Srs question, why do people expect Gabbert to "separate himself" from Kap? What has he ever done to show you that he is some great QB? We should all know what he is capable of at this point.

The only thing that gabbert has shown is a quicker release and maybe better at checkdowns. Other than that kap will always have an edge because of his running ability. I just hope he gets it together in the mental department.

IMO the #1 thing coaches look for in a starting QB is understanding of the offense. #2 is not turning the ball over and #3 is accuracy

The way Gabbert plays the game now he should've ran away with this competition with Kap's arm being tired for these reasons.

1. All those reps prior to training camp when Kap could only throw the ball in his mind

2. Gabbert by all accounts has the locker room more so than Kap after last season and the Denver trade/no trade situation

3. Gabbert actually practiced and played vs another team in camp while Kap pretty much watched.

Gabbert has had more opportunity to learn and execute this offense because Kap was hurt so he should be more comfortable in the offense.

Gabbert is a checkdown king. RBs, TEs are his bread and butter. We all saw last year how many times he threw beyond the sticks on 3rd down attempts, he's like another Alex Smith in that regard if it's not wide open down the field he'll check it down and while there's nothing wrong with it if you have guys who can get crazy YAC you may be punting a lot. But that type of game typically translates to fewer turnovers which is why Alex Smith was so good for us in 2011 and unlike Alex Gabbert's turnover numbers aren't as low as they should be given the game he plays. However because he takes so few risks down the field in theory he should be less prone to turnovers than Kap, so that's #2. And for the same reason accuracy should also be his strength over Kap. We all know Kap has a gun but obviously down the field accuracy is tougher to accomplish vs checkdowns.

Basically everything pointed to Gabbert running away with the starting job but his play in practice and games has still kept it close. Granted we have no way of knowing how Kap would've looked practicing/playing vs Houston and Denver…for all we know he could've been worse but still given what we know about the two and what Chip is looking for in a QB it was wide open for Gabbert to steal the job and he's blown his opportunity so far.

I think in the end the job will still go to Gabbert. I like what I heard/read don't recall from whom though but essentially the point was it's hard to start Kap at this point after last season because it puts a TON of pressure on him to perform at a high level all the time. Basically the locker room is kind of down on him after last year and trade talks so if he starts if he hits a rough patch early that could create a bigger rift in the locker room and other players could start complaining.

It's easier for the coaches to give the job to Gabbert and if he fails then it's easier to hand the job to Kap with the locker room being behind the move because they want results as much as the coaches.

I think he should based on last year. Kap struggled and was one of the worst QBs i've ever seen in some of those games. I remember them saying they simplified the O for him to only look at one side of the field and he still struggled. Gabbert came in with the same O and performed ok. Now with the offseason taking or sharing first team reps i expected him to get better as opposed to last year he was fighting only for a backup spot.

I thought Kap was playing fairly well given how chitty our OL was…until Arizona. Arizona game mind raped him.

I do like that he seems to be at least showing that he's having more fun out there and opening up more rather than putting on a fuk you look when asked questions. However it may simply be too late for him with this team. How many starting QBs request a trade then have success with the team they requested a trade FROM?

I think the only way he recaptures the locker room is if Gabbert struggles and Kap gets the start and plays great while keeping his attitude in check.

I have a question. Did Kaepernick always have that aloof demeanor with the media and teammates. But it wasn't an issue due to the team's success. Or was there an actual moment or something that caused him to start to withdraw?

IMO he got that way after his early success. Everyone pretty much said Kap was very different as a rookie and before he became the starter. Since then he became a lot more closed off but we can only tell from how he comes off in the media and based off stories(who knows what's true). I think the locker room situation is more due to his play on the field and the trade request vs him actually being an ******* but who the heck knows. At least the way it looks is like he's trying to make an effort to be more open and friendly..whether his teammates are buying that is another story.

Apparently Kap won't play this week but was throwing more today and longer distance. Glad they are taking time with him and should do that for anyone injured like Armstead and Ellington. Its still early preseason, no need to throw em out there with a chance of making things worse.

As for the QB situation I think Gabbert has the advantage but I don't think his style of play or actual skill level will ever let him "run away" with the competition. If Kap plays against GB and plays well he may have a chance to start. I think this week will be tough for Gabbert due to Denver's defense so we will see how he does. Apparently he hasn't done too well in practice against them.

I know one thing is that the OL this year will help whoever is QB a lot more than last year and thats a good thing to have.
