It's interesting to know that Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Jordan support the strikes. Turkey especially since we've had strained relations with them in the past year.

-Even if it were a chemical weapon factory, isn't it Syria's right as a sovereign nation to keep chemical weapons as a deterrent? They have a neighbor that has a stockpile of over 400 nukes. The united states has the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons in the world and are the only nation ever to actually use them, killing over 100,000 innocent civilians. Do you see the hypocrisy ? It seems like you have some sort of G.I. Joe good guy vs bad guy comic book understanding of the world
Why put it in a city? The same reason we put anything in a city, genius. Its because cities are efficient. Putting people and resources and infrastructure in the same spot is called efficiency. Is it dangerous in this case? Hell yeah. But Syria is a ****hole. Do you think they have a fleet of trucks, or rail structures, or anything else that can be transporting the amount of people and resources out to remote locations to make these weapons? I'd be surprised if they did. Especially after the years of conflict. They probably can't even afford shipping resources and infrastructure to hide all the **** while constantly moving people and resources out to remote areas. In this case it is efficiency. Less safety if something goes awry is the drawback, but they can also make use of the fact that the city probably has defenses and army personnel protecting it. (Hard to secure remote areas unless you're a real power like China, America, or Russia) In Syria's case, putting these sites out off in remote locations makes them extremely vulnerable. There'd even be less need to worry about civilian casualties, the US, UK, and France would have 100% more easy of a time bombing them!

Side point, there's factories in Chinese cities (talking cities with over 7 million people) that are highly explosive- if and when they explode the entire area nearby goes kablooey. Poisonous gasses galore. The factories are right on the outskirts, very close to the city as a whole, tons of new (and expensive) living buildings cramped up next to them. So add on a little wind blow, and then you have poisonous gases over a more main area. People know about it but don't care.

Secondly, nice to see you understand an international relations concept, but you can't cling 100% to theory. Grow up and develop a sense of intuition. This isn't a research paper. If theory were always right, then communism would have worked. Economies wouldn't need market regulation. Crashes wouldn't happen because everybody is rational with their money. Yeah, rational choice theory applied in international relations assumes the same thing - that these leaders won't make dumb decisions that about using harmful weapons on others because other countries will retaliate, etc. Well consistently making rational choices works best with computers, not humans. There's nothing in International Relations theory that convinces us that humans are rational actors. It is an assumption that is necessary for the theory to work and it is a bad one. It's also a good reason to limit the number of nuclear powers. Fewer people involved then lower probability of something bad happening. It's simple stats. Law of large numbers is great most of the time but not with nuclear weapons, bro.

Yeah they have a right to sovereignty in the same way you have a right to go punch somebody in the face. And go try it and see if you get in trouble for it.

Also the countries that pout about sovereignty the most on this planet are Iran, North Korea, and China. So, interpret that as you want.

Anyway, I see no need to argue over this, it's really quite simple. I think we could probably enjoy a soy latte together instead.

2017: US announce Regime change not a priority in Syria nek minute Assad gasses his own people
2018: US announce they want to withdraw from Syria nek minute Assad gasses his own people

Now I'm no genius but either Assad is the dumbest muthafvker in the history of mankind or else its pretty obvious what is going on here.

What you're really saying here (U.S. doesn't "rule' the world) we don't recklessly impose ourselves everywhere. And when we do, we're simply doing mop up work to keep the system stable. (Exception, Hilary's would-be Presidency, she probably would have tried to rule the world.) Anyway, your statement - That's a good thing, not a bad thing.

Everyone wants control of that pipeline/resource. There are several people out there that claim this theory is complete garbage....but ask yourself, (if you read the article) if this theory were in fact garbage, why is Russia standing by Syria so adamantly? Why is America seemingly attacking a country (even region) without true warrant or interest as you've claimed? Don't believe me, go and search for related articles to those documents that are being highlighted in this article for yourself, OFF of main stream news sites.

There are two sources of news: 1) what the media and government want you to believe, and 2) everything else. It just depends on if you're balls deep in the kool-aid or not they're providing you.

And while you're at it, educate yourself on The Wolfowitz Doctrine, and the plan for global control announcing America as the lone superpower left in this world.
Yeah man, good article. I read into the pipeline stuff before, both last year when we attacked Syria and last night when people were bringing it up again. I think it's a very reasonable theory. I have three reasons that I can't push aside:

1. Yes, Israel. There's no doubt that Israel has benefited from our continual prodding in the Middle East. No doubt. There's no anti-Semitism or anything else involved in saying that. I like Jewish folks as much as anyone. To dismiss the reality as "anti-Semitism" is idiotic.

2. Energy. Yep, that pipeline appears to be the reality. Two sides want control over it and right now we're on the losing side.

3. Military industrial complex. Eisenhower said it himself, it's a real thing and we have to be wary of it. I'm no pacifist but I have no interest in spending taxpayer dollars and American lives when we don't benefit from it.

Maybe it's a combination of all of those things and more, who knows. What I do know is that it isn't benefiting the average American and thus we should not be involved with any of it.

Let Israel fight its own wars (we're allies, sure, but they've already shown that they can handle the Middle Eastern countries on their own just fine). Let's produce our own energy. Let's stop giving war profiteers exactly what they want.

Yeah you can't really argue against edgelord conspiracy theorists.

The fact of the matter is that the first US Air Force/RAF strikes in Iraq and Syria during the conflict undoubtedly saved the Yazidis from further genocide and absolutely prevented the inevitable massacre of at least tens of thousands of Kurds.

Pacifists think they have the moral high ground by default but they're the types to watch a genocide happen which they can stop while patting themselves on the backs about how righteous they are.

The US/UK etc have previous for acting for the purpose of genocide prevention. The Bosnia case for example. Voices like the one you were responding to won out when Bill Clinton wanted to move to end the Rwanda genocide in its early days. Consequently up to a million people died and up to 2 million became displaced refugees. So virtue. Such righteous.

And before some of you simple *******s wade in, yes, I'm aware that nations such as ours can go to war for nefarious purposes and have done in the past. However what you're doing is jumping in and saying all wars we engage in are along those lines, despite the fact that evidently there are times when that is not the case. Some people here are too blinded by their hatred for America that they look at everything through a paradigm of automatically any conspiracy theory about America/UK etc is correct lol.

Let's be honest, even if it was the former and he was genuinely using chemical weapons against his own people (which, by the way, has precedence within the region) you'll still think it's the former and there'll still be millions of people both in America and in the UK, France etc who'll be against any sort of motion to stop him doing it more because they too always assume the worst about their own countries even with no evidence what so ever lol.

So your opinion is that our countries attacked Syria out of the goodness of their hearts? 40 people dying from chemical weapons is worse than the hundreds of thousands who were killed with conventional weapons and as such demands a response from us?

1. It doesn't make any sense for a reasonable person to think that those who died from the alleged chemical weapons are worse deaths than all of the people who have died from conventional weapons. Why get involved now instead of much earlier if our hearts truly are bleeding for all of those "beautiful babies?"

2. There isn't any evidence that the Assad fellow was the one using chemical weapons. He's fighting against ISIS and wacky Islamists. Does it not seem possible, even likely, that they used the chemical weapons themselves to trigger retaliation against Assad in an effort to turn the tide of the war? Why are we trusting the Islamists, taking their word for it that chemical weapons were used?

The strikes were on military/research/production facilities. I would assume that they aren't open to the public or reporters.
