this each autist is only 600 dollars deep- they are low risk averse because they live with their parents.

2) good point on retail vs inst. I would imagine that the retail buyers are enough to get to a certain point, but eventually they will take profits as well. I don’t think retail investors will short, and I think that if anything, more institutions will short (and get over powered) and some institutions will surprisingly be long (very temporarily- I think they will be eager to take profits as well)
Large institutional investors (sharks) in on a large short position. Lots of small retail investors (minnows) in on a large long position. Seems like there must be clever ways to make money off of this situation without joining either of these two sides. If so, and probably so, the rest of wall street is circling like hungry sharks right now. They see blood in the water and want some big bites for themselves. I'm not sure what kind of weird option trades would be involved, but I suspect some big players are going to be quietly pocketing large profits out of all this and we'll probably never know who they were. Wall Street is designed to protect the sharks from the minnows anyway. It's rare for a shark to be taken down by a school of minnows. When it happens, it's the shark has only himself to blame.

You have to assume hedge funds have connections to the financial media and to politicians in DC.

LOL'ing at anyway who didn't realize this was a possibility. It sucks, but Wall Street is no different than a casino. The house always has an edge.

I dunno how this is going to play out, but this seems to be generating momentum. I know a lot of my other stocks are down, I think this is right on the money: Hedge Funds Are Puking Longs To Cover Short-Squeeze Losses https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/he...squeeze-losses
Last night, we warned that, as hedge funds are squeezed on their shorts, they will likely be forced to sell their most popular and liquid longs. Yet for once (it would appear), wallstreetbets is actually behind the market, because a quick look at some of the industry's favorite longs shows that they got hammered just as the most shorted names were soaring, as hedge fund sharks - smelling blood in the water - starting taking bites out of their wounded peers. Smid-cap hedge fund growth darlings like Roku, Peloton and Square tumbled as much as 6% on Tuesday as the short squeeze rampage entered into its third day. Not coincidentally, Bloomberg notes that Goldman's Hedge Fund VIP ETF which tracks hedge funds’ most popular stocks, slumped for a fourth straight day, the longest stretch since October even as the company's basket of most-shorted names soared 15% during the same period.
I wonder if this is the next Lehman/AIG/2008

So how do the Redditors know that that the hedge fund is trying to short the stock? What are the indicators?

I’m not that knowledgeable when it comes to the stock market.

But couldn’t some entity just short the market for a later date, like 2 months from now? I highly doubt that GME is going to be a long term hold.

This. The question is do the minnows have enough capital to sustain this momentum or have we reached a critical point where we have overcapitalized ourselves

This may sound kooky, but I've been following a spiritual healer for a while, and he said that 2021 was going to be a year of 'exposing the Deep State/corruption'... Maybe he was right.

First we've seen the 'domestic terrorists who need be thrown in prison and censored' events, and now we are seeing CNBC and now trading platforms try to protect Wall Street from Main Street.

It's only January, and we've seen massive amounts of bullchit being shown to non-boomers.

Someone would have to agree to this though. It's a buyers/sellers market.

The reason it happened in the first place was because a company wanted to take the risk against Melvin Capital.

Hedge funds will lobby for future legislation to be able to hide their short positions.

A lot of funds make trades around the disclosure date to hide their positions in general (sell on the day of disclosure and repurchase the next day to avoid telling the market a certain name they are in).

I missed out this time but I’ll pepper my robinhood account with a few Gs for the next rollercoaster ride
