Figured I'd update the thread. A few musky lures I've carved and painted.

Went out with a bud. Ended up with a double header that night.

Trapped some beaver. Needed dinner so stopped and caught a walleye. It proceeded to freeze solid in the boat. lol

A few days later.

Got a new .410. Tried it out by shooting this grouse from my front door.

duck hunt. Almost a limit. Was a chitty year for ducks here.

Repped. What a great thread. Also, I would seriously purchase some of these lures you're making and would donate toward Lures for Kids. They look awesome.

Awesome man. The walleye can be thick up here. I ended the night fishing season with 7000+ inches caught, and 200 over 24"

Mirin the elk. One day I would love to hunt those. Seems fun as fuk.

I been hunting before (deer), and I can understand the appeal, but trophy hunting isn't hunting. It;s just killing animals with technology to feed the ego.

What about hunting the biggest animal you can find and eating the meat?

That assumes you pass up every animal that crosses your path in order to snag the biggest one.

Depends on the animal.

Coyotes you got to kill. But thats not hunting, nor will you eat it. That is pest control.

I hope you understand I am not trying to be contrarian, but understand this line of thinking. I mostly meat hunt, but if there are two bucks that come along, and one has a massive rack, you can bet which one I am shooting.

I find great humor in the guys who make food plots, salt licks, set up a dozen trail cams, and name and target one buck for the entire season. While thats not hunting to me either, I can understand because I target musky almost the same way. Its the challenge. Bass fishing, walleye fishing. meh, its kind of boring. But that quest for the biggest musky in the bay gets me up at 4am.

Keep in mind that pure trophy hunting (as in, killing something only for antlers and wasting the meat), doesn't exist anywhere I am aware of.

Trophy hunting is one of the reasons large animals exist in a lot of place in Africa. Some jackass wants to pay $500,000 to kill an old bull elephant, that means they can hire 3 more men this year for their anti poaching unit, which will save countless animals that would have otherwise been slaughtered for their tusks or whatever.

Otherwise, where would the money come from?

It has also been said that trophy hunting saved deer hunting in America. Now many states have antler point restrictions, which means that a deer has to be so big to shoot. The reason it saved it is, it assigns more value to an animal than the meat could ever provide. And if something exists in abundance today, it needs to hold value. If something doesn't A) make money or hold value, or B) score political points today, it doesnt matter and isnt regulated or cared about by politicians.

"trophy" hunting actually helped with this. No one wants to shoot a doe...they want to shoot a big buck. And its turned into a billion dollar industry.

Plus, I am of the opinion that as sportsman we need to support each other in legal pursuits, whatever our opinions on it because there are enough anti hunters trying to end what we love. We are seeing this in canada with guns, as we slowly lose our privileges.

I hate hound hunters and would never hunt that way. But last thing I will do is try and limit their ability to do so, because some day it will be me under the chopping block.

All I ask is that you try and temper your reactions to things you might not agree with, and look into them a bit further, as things are not often shades of grey as opposed to black and white.

Have to guide a week long winter camping /trapping course in Feb. Days are usually 10-15 miles a day on snowshoe.

Started training a bit a week ago so I don't get my ass handed to me.

11km walk/run this morning. Can't run the whole way till I drop 20 lbs, but eventually

Mods have abandoned ship, there was an outage a week or so ago, but we're hanging tight. MichelleLnne showed up yesterday, which is hilarious considering your previous pic here. Good to see you around mayne!
